I watched with satisfaction as her eyes widened in surprise before she broke into a smile.
“ What? You don't even know me.” She said, giving me that “are you crazy look”
Leaning over, “ Alpha Rivera of the Midnight pack and the future Lycan queen. I would love you to give me the pleasure to unmask your face and heart.” I murmured into her ears.
“ I will make you mine soon.” With that, I turned around and left.
A smile graced my lips when I caught the scent of her arousal.
I wanted to keep teasing her but my beta mindlinked me with urgency.
Making my way to the room reserved for me,Alex was pacing around the room.
“ I thought I warned you that this isn't the right time to approach her?” Alex questioned immediately I entered the room.
“ I don't believe in that s**t and you know it. I have been holding myself for the past few months. I can't wait any longer.” I replied.
“ I know. I'm just worried that they might not make another move after seeing you with her.” Alex voiced. I understand his concerns. After all, everything we have been doing in the past few months is to uncover everything about the issue of wolves turning mad and later ending up getting killed to stop them from attacking others.
I feel like they are plotting against Hazel and getting rid of her. Something tells me that she is somehow involved in the whole conspiracy but as a victim.
This whole meeting thing sounded suspicious the moment they changed the venue.
Something tells me that soon enough, my mate will be embroiled in a web of deception and conspiracy. Of course, I won't let anything happen to her.
“Nothing is going to stop them from carrying out the plan. This is the perfect chance for her. With no warriors from her pack, it will be easy to entrap her.” I reasoned.
“ I still can't believe he is willing to use two innocent lives just to accomplish his plans.” Alex commented.
“That's just how people are, purely evil. Isn't it the same with me? To take over the Lycan king, I slaughtered all my family in cold blood. Come to think about it, I think I'm even worse than him.”
It's no secret across the land how I became the ruthless and heartless Lycan king who drinks blood as water.
“ Come on Lucas, we both know what happened.” Alex replied, making me chuckle.
“Too bad, people don't think like you. They won't even believe it if you say that. Some people are born villains, that's the rule of nature.” I replied.
I am used to being misunderstood by others. In any case, even my life is a big web of misunderstandings.
“ Whatever people say, it won't change the fact that you are a good person. I owe my life to you. You are also doing everything to protect her.” Alex pressed.
I didn't bother to argue with him. Protecting Hazel is my duty as her mate, that goes without saying.
“ Keep an eye on them. I am going to accompany my mate.” I declared and headed out.
Hazel pov
After leaving the hallway, I decided to head back to the room. I was no longer in the mood to go back to the party.
Having stayed here, all my life, I decided to take a shortcut to the guest houses only to be stopped by Mason.
I rolled my eyes seeing his angry face.
“ I didn't know you were f*****g the Lycan king.” He said, his voice laced with nothing but anger and another emotion… jealousy?
“ What is it to you if I open my legs for him? At least, he is a gentleman compared to someone else.” I spat to intentionally annoy him.
I mean, what's the deal with him? He was no longer my mate and that means I can go out with any man of my choice.
“ Watch your mouth. Just because you are an Alpha now doesn't make you equal to me.” Mason barked.
I smiled at his words, albeit mockingly.
“ Why are you scared? Scared of the pathetic Weakling you rejected?” I shot back.
“I'm warning, watch your back or you won't know when thunder strikes you.” With that, he turned around and walked away.
Something about Mason's words rubbed me the wrong way. What did he mean by that? Was that a warning or a threat? But what could happen with so many Alphas around?
Shoving those thoughts to the back of my mind, I made my way to my room.
Outside my room, Adina was pacing restlessly making me frown.
“ What's wrong? Why are you pacing around?” I asked immediately as I stood before her.
Adina seemed to have not realised my presence until I spoke.
When she lifted her face to look at me, her face was stained with tears.
I didn't get to ask her what was wrong when she threw herself in my arms and started sobbing. Listening to her heartbreaking sobs, my heart broke for her.
After minutes of crying, she wiped her tears before facing me.
“ Noel called me.” Hearing her words, my heart raced. Noel was her brother and my beta.
“ And?” Even when I had an inkling of what she was about to say, I still asked to be sure.
“ My mother woke up from the induced coma.” She revealed. “ I have to go back. I have to see her one last time.” She added.
Waking from the Induced coma meant that the person was almost turning forsaken. With the last tether of sanity snapped, it was the time to say goodbye to our loved ones. To stop them from turning forsaken, death was inevitable.
“ It's okay, I understand. Go and see her.” As I said those words, pain clouded my heart. Adina's mother was the mother I never had growing up.
When I arrived at the midnight pack five years ago, she took me in and loved me like her own daughter.
“Noel asked if you can visit her too.”
