New Life, New Me

The first sense to start coming back to me was my hearing. I could hear faint sounds of people talking near me. “She will be okay. I have her hooked up to a water drip to rehydrate her body.” A calming women’s voice came through the darkness I still sat in.  “Well fabulous. We didn’t need Alpha Christen getting into this mess.” A lighter voice responded. He sounded nonchalant about the discussion. As my vision began to catch up to my hearing, I began to notice I was back in the room I woke up in. All I could do was think I failed. I’m back where I started. I began to look around the room for the voices and I found them by the doorway. A dark-haired woman in a large doctor’s coat stood ten feet away from where I lay talking to the second man in the room who I also began to recognize as the first man who came into parent’s store. I tried to sit up a bit, trying to not alert the two people at the door but as if they have superhuman hearing, the second I moved they both looked over at me. “You’re awake!” yelled the goofy man as he began to walk over to me. The women seemed to follow instinctively. “Sophia, how are you feeling?” She said in a calming voice. I did not respond. I looked around the room trying to get a grip on what was happening. “You passed out from dehydration.” She responded as quickly as my thoughts on what happened appeared.  “Where am I?” I asked attempting to sit fully up. “Castle Black.” The goofy guy responded quickly with a smile however his smile faded as he was quickly met with confusion. “Alpha Christen Black? Alpha of the Black tribe? Ringing any bells?!” His voice picked up in pitch as he continued to ask questions. I just shook my head confirming his suspicions of me knowing nothing of what he was talking about. “Tate let her be. Christen will help her remember. Once she is ready, he wants to see her.” The women who I assumed was the doctor interjected before he bombarded me with more question. With that, she turned on her heels and began to leave. “Well, as you have probably gathered, I’m Tate.” He said pointing to himself as if I was supposed to be impressed with him. He still was shirtless, but he had somehow found some pants.  I nodded. “I’m Sophia…” His smile widened making him even more childlike than before. He had to have been around my age, however he definitely lacked some maturity. “Are you feeling up to a walk?” He asked. I nodded moving my feet from under the sheets of the bed. I placed them on the floor and wobbled a bit. Tate quickly jumped to take my arm and stabilize me. “Thanks...” I mumbled. I removed the needle in my arm that I assumed was rehydrating me and began to walk towards the door with Tate next to me. As we exited, Tate turned right, and I kicked myself in my head because I took the damn left. We walked down the hallway for a good three to four minutes taking multiple turns as we went. Tate talked non-stop during this time while I only responded with nods and grunts of acknowledgment. I was trying to memorize the ways we were walking but it became so confusing I quit.  We approached two large doors at the end of a hallway. “Here we are!” Tate exclaimed with excitement. “You’ll love Christen.” He stated but as soon as he said that, we heard yelling from behind the doors. “Why can’t you just send me with Kai!?” Someone yelled and I looked over at Tate. He gave me an apologetic smile and scratched his head a bit.  “Well that’s Micah. He’s always a bit on edge.” Tate explained. Just as he finished his sentence the doors flew open and with it the scent of honey and wood filled my senses. Emerging from the room came the blue-eyed man, that I know now as Micah, I seem to keep running into. Our eyes locked for a split second and I could see the furry in his. His eyes were a darker blue this time and as quickly as I noticed this, the darkness disappeared and the light blue reappeared.  “Hey Micah!” Tate said, breaking our gazes. Micah grunted and continue to walk past us down the hallway. “See,” Tate whispered to me with a shrug. “Moody.” And with that, he walked into the room.  I peeked back at Micah who was still within sight before walking into the room.   Tate entered the room before me, almost skipping joyfully. I couldn’t say the same for myself. I entered the room cautiously as I still had no idea what the hell was happening. I was knocked out, kidnapped, witnessed a wolf turning into a man, passed out AGAIN, and now I was on my way to meet this mysterious man. The room we entered was extravagant. The ceilings were vaulted to a height I couldn’t even guess. The back wall was covered in windows and the remaining walls were decorated with pictures of people from the 1700’s. In the middle of the room sat a huge wooden desk with a red wood stain on it. The desk itself looked to be over 100’s of years old. The man sitting behind the desk, however, did not.  “Sophia, welcome.” The man behind the desk smiled and stood up to greet me. He was a good-looking man. He had short brown hair that was slightly spiked to the side. He was well put together wearing black dress pants and a white button-down shirt. He left the two buttons undone making him look less professional. He had soft brown eyes and his facial expression looked confident but welcoming. The closer he got, the more I noticed he was just as large as the rest of the men around here and I couldn’t help to think what the hell was in the water! He stood around 6”5 and underneath his white button-down shirt was a very muscular chest “My name is Christen. Welcome to my home.” He approached me with a smile. I nodded not knowing what to say exactly. “I’m sure you are very confused.” “Just a little…” I mumbled with a slight roll of my eyes. He laughed at my annoyance. “Please sit. Let me explain.” He said as he pulled back a chair in front of the desk for me to sit in. I obliged looking back to see where Tate was. He was just standing by the door still, seemingly to be waiting. “This is going to be a bit of a shock to you, but your parents were not your biological parents.” He stated in one fell swoop. My eyebrows furrowed and a confused look fell upon my face. “Your parents were werewolves.”  “What?” My mind went back to all the stories my parents, or whom I thought were my parents, told me. “No,” My mind then moved to the two wolves fighting this very building. “Those were… stories.” “No, they were true. Your parents were Alpha and Luna of the Luminary pack. A pack devoted to peace and fought to unite the packs. Truly a sight they were.” Christen seemed to be looking off into the distance remembering them. “Were?” I said becoming concerned for my new parents. Christens face fell and he looked down. “Yes, were. They were murdered by the Nightshade pack. Fighting for unity, they sacrificed themselves in battle to save you. See, the Nightshade’s Alpha, Kade, wanted nothing more than to rule all the packs as one. This did not sit well with your parents as you were to be their next Luna. Kade set out to have your murdered, along with all the future Alpha’s and Luna’s of the other packs. In order to protect you, they sent you to live in hiding with the Greggory and Stacy.” My heart dropped hearing my parents’ names. “Greggory and Stacy are a warlock and a witch. They were hired to hide you in plain sight, placing a diluting spell on you to not only dull your scent but to also suppress your powers.” As he said that my life began to fall into place. This had to have been why I never had many friends. I didn’t bond with many people. I was under a spell… I put my head in my hands trying to take in all of this. “So, you’re saying… I’m a werewolf?” I asked peeking up. He nodded.  “I suppressed werewolf, but a werewolf nun the less.” I stayed quiet for a little bit of time before another question popped into my head. “And what do you want with me? Why did I just stay with my parents… or Greggory and Stacy?” He smiled at this point and looked down. “Well your parents and mine kind of had an agreement…” He peeked back up, his brown eyes looking softer. “We were arranged to be married to unite the tribes.” My heart stopped.              “What…” Christen could see the shock on my face. “Sophia, I know this is confusing and a bit much but please, I only want the best for you and the tribes. Once I found you, I knew it would be a matter of time before Kade found you too.” “Found me?” “Yes, you were hidden from everything. I have been searching for you for years. My Beta has been searching for you for years.” He said almost pleadingly. “Hey, and me!” I heard Tate’s voice pipe up from behind me. “Yes, yes, and Tate” Christen said while rolling his eyes. I put my head back into my hands, completely overwhelmed. “Sophia, you have to believe me…” I heard footsteps approaching me from the back and then a hand placed on my shoulder. “Alpha, maybe she needs some time to rest. It has been an exhausting day for her...” I heard Tate speak up, but his voice was changed this time. It was softer and more sensitive, almost as if he was protecting me. Christen looked at Tate was narrowed eyes a bit but agreed. “Yes, I did hear about your walk today…” looking back at me he spoke softer. “please get some rest. I will see you at dinner?” He asked but it was more of a statement. I nodded, not really knowing what to say. With that Christen stood up and I followed. “Tate, please ensure Micah is where he needs to be.” Christen states with an authoritative voice. Tate nodded, holding out his arm, signaling me towards the door. I walked out in a daze not knowing what to think. I was just told not only were my parents not really my parents, but I was also this mythical creature I heard non-stop stories about when I was a child.  Tate and I walked quietly back to my room. He knew I needed some space and I appreciated that. Arriving at my room, Tate gave me a quick smile and said “Goodnight, see you at dinner.”   “Thank you, Tate.” I said with a half-smile. I entered my new room, and immediately laid down. I couldn’t deal with this stress. I didn’t know what to think, what was true, and I was exhausted. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
