chapter 7~ friends

octavia's pov

When I woke up the next morning, I felt more rested than I have in years. being able to actually sleep in a bed after so many years of sleeping on the forest floor or in caves felt so good. my back didn't hurt, and I felt so alive.

I went to the closet and picked out an outfit to wear for the day. I think I want to join the pack for breakfast and try and make new friends. if I'm going to be joining the pack, I need to try and fit in.

I picked out a black shortsleeved shirt and some blue ripped jeans to top it off. I slid on some sneakers and made my way to the bathroom to freshen up.

when I was done, I left the room and grabbed a glass of water, gulping it down, and was ready to leave. as I was making my way to the front door, there was a knock. I quickly answered it and was met with Alex and Kyle.

Alex looked tired but put on a smile when he saw me answe the door. Kyle looked bright and happy, ready to start the day. I smiled back at them and stepped out, closing the door behind me.

"How was your guys night? Alex, you look tired, is everything okay?"

Kyle looked surprised that I called Alex by his name and not alpha. after all, only people close to the alpha were able to call them by their actual name, and usually, that would be in private. most alphas seen it as a challenge for the alpha position.

"Well, it turns out you were right about he argument between Leyla and I. it was a long night, and it was hard to sleep after it was overI just didn't feel comfortable sleeping after that."

that left Kyle even more confused about what was going on between the three of them. he knew that alex didn't really like Leyla, but she was the best option until the alpha found his mate. he didn't understand why the alpha and this lone were so close after just a day. It didn't make sense. he made a mental note to talk to alex about it later in prviavte.

"Well, I told you it was bound to happen with the way she was acting yesterday. but I am sorry to hear it affected your sleep. I hope tonight gets better for you. how are you kyle how was your night?"

"it was okay. I had the early morning potrol, but other than that, it's been good. how did you sleep?"

Alex felt a little irritated that kyle beat him at asking Octavia how she slept, but he didn't show it. nobody else bit Octavia, Leyla, and him knew that they were mates. he planned on telling them later today to talk to them about keeping an eye on the two. he knew Leyla would try something even after his threat, and something told me that Octavia wouldn't just roll over and take it.

"My night was quite good, actually. after sleeping in the forest for so long, having a bed felt so amazing. I feel more refreshed than I have in years."

"Well, that's good. I'm glad you slept well. " alex made sure to beat Kyle answering the question.

the rest of the walk to the pack house was quiet between them. it wasn't an awkward quiet it was actually quite comfortable between the three of them. the morning promised rain at some point in the day, but nobody knew when.

When they got to the pack house, they all made their way to the dining hall. Leyla was already there sitting with some of her friends. nobody knew that they were talking about different ways to bring Octavia down and keep Layla in the Luna position. they all watched at the alpha, gamma, and the ex lone wolf grab food and go sit at a table to eat.

back at the table, they were all enjoying their breakfast when the beta and his mate came and sat down. Jessica sat next to Octavia, and they fell into their own conversation. Octavia was happy that someone was willing to look past her being alone and wanting to be friends with her.

"Hey octiavia, I was wondering if you would like to go shopping with me at the pack mall later. Liam and Alex have a meeting later, and I don't want to sit at the house bored all day. plus I need a new outfit for the pack party at the end of the month. and I figured you would like to get your own clothes instead of wearing the clothes that were put in the cabins for guests."

I didn't know what to say. I haven't been shopping since my parents were alive and we were preparing for my first shift. she would love to go but she didn't have a job yet so she couldn't afford to buy anything even if she wanted to.

"I would love to go shopping with you but I don't have any money to get anything. I was actually thinking about picking up a job somewhere in the pack so I could afford to go and do things."

I watched as jessica was thinking for a moment before coming up empty-handed. before any of them could say anything, alex spoke up.

"Here, take this. consider it as a gift for joining the pack and use it until you can find a job of your liking.go out and have some fun and make some friends."

everyone at the table was shocked to see Alex pass over a black credit card to octavia. he doesn't even let Leyla use his card because she spends way too much money on things that they don't need. everyone was so shocked they didn't pay attention to the table Leyla was sitting at. she was seething with rage, seeing Alex pass Octavia the card. she came up with a plan to trap the alpha to stay with her and reject octavia for good. she was going to put her plan into motion right away. only a few people watched as she got up and left the dining hall. some gave her looks of pity and others of disgust, and she ignored everyone as she made her way out.

Back at the table, Jessica started talking to Octavia about all the things they were going to go to today, and it really made her excited. Octavia hadn't had a friend in years and was quite excited to meet and make a new friend.

"I think we're going to be best friends, Octavia, and I really love it. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us."

Octavia smiled so big it hurt her face.

"Me to Jessica. I really love this too. I'm so glad I can call you a friend. I really needed one thank you."

"oh hunny you don't have to thank me it's a pleasure. plus, now I have someone to talk to all the time other than Liam. I love the man, but sometimes I just want to go out for a girls' night. with my sister leaving to join the royal guard at the kingdom, it's been lonely. I don't have many friends because they are all mad that I'm the betas mate and their jealous. i'd be jealous too, but they didn't have to isolate me like this."

"I'm so sorry. I promise to always be your friend."

as the girls kept talking, Alex was watching them from the head of the table. he felt a sense of pride watching octavia make her first friend, but he also felt anger after hearing what Jessica had said. he made a silent promise to talk to some of the she wolves and figure out why they were really isolating the betas mate. he didn't run his pack to be that crul, and he wouldn't stand for it.

when they were all done eating, they left the dining hall. Alex, Liam, and Kyle headed to the main study to go and have their meeting. the girls left to go to the mall to go shopping and have a girls' day. so far, the day was good, but it wouldn't stay that way. not with Leyla in the background planning her next moves to sabotage the relationship between the two males so she could stay in power. the idea of losing the Luna position made her anger grow, and she wouldn't stop at anything to keep the luna title.
