Chapter 14
Paula stood in engineering, staring at the tube Jenna had rigged up and shaking her head. She was dressed in her usual attire of deep blue overalls covered in dirt and oil stains, her hair tied back tightly.
She took another long swig from the beer bottle in her hand, then rounded on Jenna. Jenna braced herself for the lecture.
“I… I don’t… how…” stuttered Paula.
She took another swig of beer and seemed to make her mind up what to say.
“I don’t know whether to be amazed or terrified. Seriously, this was either an absolutely genius move or a completely insane idea. I’m amazed the tube held up and that the ship didn’t tear itself apart when all that power was dumped into the engines in one go.”
