The sound of feet scuffling against the floor drew Dylan from his sleep. He blinked his eyes open, but winced as a mind shattering pain filled his head. It was as if his skull was on the verge of splitting open. When he finally opened his eyes, he stared at the ceiling. His head swam when he pulled himself into a sitting position. A mattress supported his body, but it didn’t take him long to swing his legs to the side and inspect the bed. What appeared to be dried blood stained the white pillowcase. Slowly reaching his hand to the back of his head, his hair was hard and matted. He ran his fingers over a lump, wincing at the pain it caused.
