Asking For Help

1631 Words
AZARIA POV After a few rings, he answered the phone. I put the phone on speaker so that Dustin could hear as well. "Hey Lyle, I need a favor." "What's up, Laina?" "I was wondering if I could send some of my elderly, children, and other vulnerable members to your pack for a little bit? I'll send some money for as long as you have them to help with expenses." "What's going on, Laina?" His tone was grim and serious. "Is Damien there?" "Yeah, I'll put the phone on speaker." "OK, we've had rogue attacks every day for the last week. For safety, everyone has been pulled into the pack house. But I think the safest thing would be to send everyone who isn't warriors somewhere safer. I know it's a big ask." There was a moment of silence. "Of course. Damien and I will be there tomorrow to help bring them over." "Thank you, Lyle, you're a life saver." "Laina?" Damien's voice came over the call. "Yeah, D?" "I think you need to give him a call." I sigh. "I will. Thank you for your help. I'll see you guys tomorrow." The call ended, and I stared at the phone for a bit. I picked it up and dialed my half-brother. This one was more personal, so it wasn't on speaker. I know I said there were no sons, and there weren't. Before my father killed my mothers mate, they had a son. I met him very few times. His existence was kept from my father. He was already fifteen when everything went down and took his father's title as the alpha king. The phone rang for a bit, and then came his voice. "Laina, is everything ok?" I never call first, so I know he's worried. "I need some help." "I'll be there tonight. We'll leave within the hour." "You might need to bring some tents or something. The pack house is full at the moment." "It's that serious?" "Yeah." I hold my breath, hoping he'll still come. "We'll be there soon. Just hold on a little longer." He ended the call, and I looked up at the anxious face of Dustin and the confused but worried face of Tanner. "He'll be here tonight. He said to just hold on a little longer." Dustin breathed out a sigh of relief. "What about the rogue in the cells?" He asked nervously. I took a deep breath, I stood and walked out, heading towards the cells. With every step came the flashbacks. The walk to the cells, being pushed and hit. Insults being thrown at me. Walking in and smelling the blood, vomit, and other bodily fluids. The cold floor under my bare feet and cold air hit the rest of my body. Tears are running down my face. "Keep going, or it'll be worse." My father's voice booms behind me. We head down the hall where my father kept the worst of the worst. The cells that should hold murderers, rapists, etc.... but all the cells are empty. One of the guards opens a cell door I know well, giving me a quick sympathetic look, so fast my father won't see it. "Chain her." He commands, and the guard does as he's told. "Bring me the whip and knives." After he finished, I was left there for days. Starved, tired, bleeding, and crying. I stand in front of the cell holding the rogue. "Oh look, the luna has graced me with her presence." He says sarcastically. "Why do you keep attacking my pack?" I say without any emotion. "Orders are orders." "Who do you work for?" "That's the question, isn't it. I assume you got the note?" I say nothing. "With your silence, I will say you did. Well, I have another message for you. Don't get too comfortable, Addy. He's coming for you. They both are, actually. Your nightmare is just beginning. You'll be pleading for death by the end." He starts laughing like a maniac. My face pales, and I turn on my heels and run out of the cells. He can't be alive. How did they both survive. I watched them both die at different times, but still. When he tried to rape me, I fought back. It was the first time I shifted, too. Seeing me as a silver wolf only increased his will to have me as his. I didn't mean to hurt him as bad as I did, but I took off after, and there was too much blood. No one could survive that. They called themselves my nightmare, and they both called me Addy even though I hated it. I can't breathe, it's cold, and I'm sweating, the world is spinning, and I feel like I'm going to pass out. All of the sudden, I'm grabbed from behind. I fight. No way am I going down without a fight. The person that grabbed me comes into view, his dead cold brown eyes, blonde hair, and his wicked grin. "NO! NO! GET OFF OF ME! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Tears are running down my face. I hear distantly a voice saying to let them try. Then arms encircle me, and I'm warm. Tingles run through my body. Slowly, I calm down as I'm held by my mate. Tears running down my face as I shake slightly, as he whispers to me that I'm ok and safe. I hear him, but I'm so tired. The fighting, healing Ashlee, the rogue, the panic attack, it was all too much. Darkness consumed me. TANNER POV Damien decided to stay a little longer, so it was just me. I pulled up to the pack house and saw people working on repairing houses and other buildings. Adalaina walked out of the house and welcomed me. She looked beautiful but tired. Does she not sleep enough? An omega showed me to my room and brought me some food. When I finished, I was escorted to her office. I met her gamma, who left us to speak. Before we even could, the alarm sounding told us there was an attack. We took off and joined in on the fight. I got separated from her, and I wasn't too worried. I had seen her fighting skills from the bushes that day, I was sure she'd be fine. While I was fighting off a few rogues at a time, a gray wolf came and helped me. We both shifted back, and it was Dustin. "Where's Adalaina?" He yells over the fighting. "I don't know. We got separated." Why does he seem so worried? She's a great fighter. "s**t! We need to find her. They're here for her. They've been trying to capture her all week." We both nodded and ran in different directions, looking for Adalaina. I don't even know what her wolf looks like. No one really does, I don't think. I've never heard from anyone what her wolf looks like. After searching frantically, I see a girl fighting multiple wolves in human form. There was a loud howl, and the rogues began to retreat. She and a fee others chased them to the border. I followed, and we saw a giant black wolf with gray eyes. He stared at her, I was getting pissed. She's my mate. I asked her if she knew him, all she said was that the eyes of the wolf looked familiar. We ran back to the pack house. Not once has she shifted into her wolf. I'm curious as to why, but I won't ask. Maybe they don't have a good relationship. I wonder what her wolf looks like, I know she has one, and I can sense her. If we went running, when we shifted back, I'd be able to see her for all that she, unable to hide away from me. I started getting images that made blood rush downstairs. I had to think of different things to stop the growing bulge in the shorts a warrior had given me after the fight. This was also hardly the time to think that way as well. I must've missed something important in her conversation with Dustin because we were rushing towards the pack hospital, and she looked worried. When we got there, she asked for a certain patient. The nurse said she wasn't going to make it and that no help would change that. When we got inside, I was a woman with strawberry blonde hair lying on a bed. She was in bad shape, and to make things worse, she was pregnant. This poor girl and pup wouldn't see another day. I was shocked when Adalaina put her hands above the man's body and closed her eyes. I was even more shocked to see the woman healing right in front of me. When she was down, she lowered hands, opened her eyes, and staggered some. She was out of breath and clearly tired. I had never heard a wolf with those kinds of healing abilities. I was amazed when she gave up her room to the woman, so she'd be more comfortable. We got back and went to her office. She made some phone calls, the first to Lyle, the second I was really curious about. Afterward, we went down to the cells to speak to the only surviving rogue that was caught. Adalaina seemed nervous with every step we took. What rogue said really seemed to bother her. She's pale, walking like she's on auto pilot out of the cells. Her breathing fast, Dustin reaches out to grab her shoulder to try and talk to her. She starts swinging, I don't know what's happening, but I know she's panicking. I move towards her stepping, she calms down, and just like that, she's falls unconscious.
