Chapter 17

1044 Words
Alpha Murphy heard about the fire incident after a week. Beta Hogan heard about it the day it happened, but he tried to manage it on his own without letting Alpha Murphy find out about it. Beta Hogan also made sure Sassy was safe, as he knew her whereabouts and occasionally checked up on her without anyone knowing. When Alpha Murphy found out, he was furious. "How come I never found out about this?" He asked Beta Hogan. "It is a sensitive case. She was your mate. I wanted to handle it alone, and I was able to." Beta Hogan explained. "I am the Alpha of the pack, Hogan! Whatever happens in this pack, I should be informed no matter what or who is affected." Alpha Murphy ordered. "I'm sorry, Alpha." Beta Hogan apologized. "How is she doing? Where is she?" Alpha Murphy asked. Beta Hogan sighed. This was why he didn't want him to know about it. "She's okay. She's undergoing treatment." He said. "Okay, where? Let's go see her." Alpha Murphy said and picked up his car keys. "No, Alpha. You can't." "And, why's that? I just want to make sure she's okay." Alpha Murphy said. "And I say she's okay. You can't go see her. I feel the fire and everything was because of you. I'm still trying to make investigations. But you can't go see her. The people caring for her wouldn't even let you. Just sit back and I'll report everything to you. Don't get involved or she might get hurt again." Beta Hogan said. Alpha Murphy sighed and sat down on the couch. "I also heard the sum of two hundred thousand dollars given to her to keep by her boss was also burnt." "Who would want to hurt her because of me?" He muttered. Beta Hogan smiled sadly. Alpha Murphy was in love with Sassy and didn't want to admit it. He never cares about anyone, not even Megan. Just then, Megan walked in. Beta Hogan just bowed and walked out of the living room. "Hey, sweetheart. You look worried. Is there something wrong?" She asked Alpha Murphy and he sighed again. "I'm fine. I just heard about the fire incident at Joy's Delight Coffee shop." He said, staring at her. Megan scratched her neck nervously. "Where's that? Oh..I think I saw it online. It's quite sad." She said and looked away. Alpha Murphy shook his head. "I'll get whoever did this and they'll regret ever being born." He said, staring intently at her. Megan felt he was threatening her. "Uh..I ...I have to go." She said and picked up her bag. Alpha Murphy just kept staring at her, trying to watch her every move. She was the only person he suspected would want to hurt Sassy because of him. He watched as she left and then he sighed again. ********* Megan hurried back home immediately. Her mother had already returned to the orphanage. So, she decided to call her as she couldn't go to the orphanage. The Matron was hiding her from people for some reason. "Mother, mother!" She said as soon as her mother picked up the call. "What is it, baby?" The matron asked. "It didn't work, mother. He still cares about her." Megan lamented. "What?" The matron asked. "Yes, mother. He had a really worried expression on his face. I think he just found out about it today. He said he is going to make whoever causes the fire regret being born, mother." Megan said, worriedly. "Is that so?" The matron asked. "Yes, mother. What if he finds out? We both will be doomed." Megan said. "Relax, baby. He's not going to find out anything. I made sure everything went well behind the scenes. It is never going to be linked to us. Trust me." The matron said. "But, what if it is, mother?" Megan asked again. "It won't. And even if it will, we are going to deny it. But, I doubt it ever will." "Mother, are you sure about this?" Megan asked. "Of course. I've been doing shitty deals like this for years now and I have never been caught. Do you think I'll get caught with just this small incident? It was a foolproof plan, there was no room for mistakes. Sassy's boss felt she was the cause and that's all that matters. Do not think too much." The matron said. "But, mother... Alpha Murphy kept staring at me hard. It was as if he already found out about it and he was just waiting for me to confess." Megan said. "You had a fallout with the blonde girl, so you're only a suspect. Do you know what you're going to do for me?" The matron asked. "No, mother." "Good. I want you to visit him more often. Cling to him like never before, care for him, do whatever you can. I need to get in-house information about whatever investigation is going on. Okay?" The matron said. "Okay, mother. But, what if he chases me away like he did when he was with Blondie?" She asked. "He won't do that, baby. Sassy is no longer there. This is also a chance for you to prove yourself to him. You can even support the investigation with one or two ideas, and you won't be a suspect anymore. It's not that hard, I know you can do it." The matron said. "Yes Mother, I can try. I'm going to move in with him tomorrow and get more information about the investigation. Mother, were there CCTV cameras? They could get footage or something." Megan observed. "Baby, I told you this isn't the first time I'm dealing with things like this. There were CCTV cameras, but we destroyed all of them before setting the place on fire. Just relax, and do whatever I tell you, okay?" The matron said. "Okay, mother." "Alright, love you, bye." The matron said. "I love you too, Mother," Megan said and hung up the call. Beta Hogan stood outside Megan's door and as soon as he heard she was done making her phone call, he switched off the recorder in his hands and walked away. Megan thought she saw someone, but when she checked, there was no one there...
