Chapter 1
Vannellapishia’ "The Best Time of a Lifetime” Chapter 1. Vannellapishia’ Vianna Remmie Goldington the First was a creative and imaginative young lady, but a respectable and hard worker in Langston Town. She studied business during the mornings, practiced her craft of dance at night, and worked during the day as a server for Big Daddy's Hot Fudge Sundae Shack. Just like many of the other girls in their middle class, normal but bare, college town, Vannellapishia had a big dream. She hoped and prayed that one day, she would be a principal ballerina that traveled around the world. Sweating, bussing tables at the diner and losing sleep to her studies sometimes had Vannellapishia second guessing herself, but the dream of being a dancer lived in her mind ever since she was a child. As she thanked a group of customers for eating at the diner, she picked up her tip off the table and was approached by Big Daddy, the owner of the place. Big Daddy's spoke, “How is life, Vanella?” “It's going good,” Vannellapisha replied. “Just good? Life should be ecstatic!” “I'm 26, and I'm still trying to figure things out. Life just seems to be complicated at times.” “You know?... Back in my day, the young folks studied during the day, but partied all weekend long. Ha! Ha!” Big Daddy grooved his hip, and said, “I sure do miss the old times.” Vannellapishia glanced down at her reflection in the table, as she continued wiping the smudges of sundae off. Bid Daddy replied, “Well don't worry about that… and I will finish wiping off that table. Just go have fun for the rest of the day… Explore. Live a little!” Big Daddy giggled, shaking his heavy black beard and shrugging his shoulders in Vannellapishia's direction in hopes that she would budge. Vannellapishia stood her ground. “I can't leave,” Vannellapisha said. “Why?” “I'm still paying for ballet classes. They're so darn expensive.” “You mean, one day off will stop you from dancing for the rest of the month?” “No.” “Then what's stopping you?” Vannellapishia swallowed her pride. “I'm used to working. It's all I know, in addition to dancing, that's how I spend every day.” Vannellapishia grabbed a nearby rolling cart and began collecting plates full of crumbs from empty tables. Big Daddy joined in. “...And that's not a life, Vanella.” He glanced into Vannellapishia's young eyes, and shrugged his shoulders. “I guess one day off wouldn't hurt,” Vannellapisha replied. She hesitantly took off her apron, and handed it to Bid Daddy, and confirmed, “Thanks for the day off, Big Daddy.” Bid Daddy gave her a huge smile, and then returned to the back kitchen. Vannellapishia walked out the front doors, as the bright sun of the hot June lit up her face and the wind kissed her brown cheeks. She plied and spun in circles down the sidewalk, as her graceful arms followed along, dancing to the sweet melodies of the day.
