Chapter 9 - You know this is pointless?

2210 Words
" Are you saying that David will be with you for life?" I wrinkled my forehead, hardly believing Chloe's words. This topic of werewolves is completely new to me. I know nothing about their lives, their opportunities, their attitudes - especially their love affairs. Maybe I shouldn't have interfered and asked more questions, but my curiosity was killing me inside. I only know as much as David told me that he was a big giant wolf, as much as I saw with my own eyes, but that's all. I saw Chloe go quiet for a moment. Our conversation was interrupted by Cassian walking into the living room. I immediately turned my eyes to him to see what he was doing in the kitchen. In one hand, he was carrying two glasses with a red liquid, obviously blood. In the other was a plate with waffles and syrup. "I see nobody taught you to knock?" Cassian's green eyes went to Chloe sitting on the couch. "Nobody taught you to lock the door?" Chloe rolled her eyes at Cassian. "Here, take a plate. You have a long day ahead of you." Cassian held out a plate of breakfast towards me. "Cassian, since when you so helpful?" Chloe's face was bright with surprise. "Take a cup before I drink it all by myself." Cassian held out the cup of blood towards Chloe. Chloe took the cup from Cassian's hand without waiting. I ate the waffles slowly with my fork, savoring every bite. Waffles remind me so much of the ones my mother used to make as a child. Just as fluffy, just as soft, just as easy to swallow on the tongue. Cassian is sitting on the sofa in front of Chloe and me. "Perhaps there's news from Frandlyn?" Chloe sipped the red liquid from her cup. "Henry mentioned that nine other people went missing there last night. He promised to call when he knew more." Cassian slowly savored her portion of blood. "How many people are missing in that town?" I looked up from my waffle to Cassian. "With the last nine, twenty. We shouldn't make any mistakes waiting for the fire. Expect another sacrificial ceremony. Maybe Henry and Elaine won't miss anything this time." Cassian's eyes darted to the cup he held in his hands. "The one thing I don't understand is why Nikita sent Dillan to kill your dad. She knows we're looking for him." Chloe's hand cupped her chin eyes turned towards the fireplace. "Maybe that's a sign of stopping looking for him. We wouldn't try to save him because he's completely obedient to her." Cassian voiced his thoughts aloud, trying to keep the conversation going. I don't care what Nikita tries to do. I'm not going to fold my arms for Dillan. She may try to get me to back down with all her might, but she won't succeed. I'm not going to stop fighting for a second for a man who has a special place in my heart. She doesn't deserve Dillan's love, even the love she has now. Cassian's phone rang, breaking the silence that had settled for a moment in the living room. In one simple movement, he put the phone to his ear, not even glancing at the person who was bothering him. "What happened?" Cassian's eyes lingered on me but immediately went to the wall behind me. "Who do you think is calling him?" Chloe's eyes turned to me. I shrugged, not wanting to get into Cassian's conversation. He got up from the couch, taking small steps towards the exit of the house. My hunch didn't fool me. Someone important had called him. But it's not Henry. Then no reason to him run away from us to the other end of the room. I turned my eyes to the clock on the wall, which show nine o'clock in the morning. I hope Finn won't forget to let me know what time to report to the police station. I sighed deeply, then put my plate on the table after I finished eating my breakfast. I got up from the sofa and headed straight for the cabinet that was near the bookshelf. I opened the cupboard wide with one hand, and the candles appeared neatly lined up in front of my eyes. I was glad that I didn't have to go upstairs to get the candles. Everything was at my fingertips as it should be. "What are you going to do? I thought the search spell didn't work." Chloe watched my actions carefully. "I can't just sit around and wait for the others to figure things out." I rolled my eyes as I picked up the five candles. "It's bad for your health Sarah." Cassian's voice echoed through the living room as he stood leaning against the stair railing. "I don't care. I'm sure Dillan would do the same, if I were him." I sent an angry look in Cassian's direction. I know perfectly well that Chloe and Cassian are trying to protect me. I know that the search spell is terrible for me, especially when black magic is involved. But it's the only hope I have left. I'll try a hundred times, but one will surely be successful. It only takes one right time for Dillan to fight against black magic. Then I will be able to find where he is. It's just a small thing. One by one, I put the candles on the living room table. From under the table, I pulled out a map, unfolding it. "Insidia." In one easy movement, all the candles lit up before my eyes. The corner of my lips rose slightly. I am always pleased with how the simple flame of the candles calms me. It's like a kind of therapy, looking at the gracefully dancing flame. It helps to clear the bad thoughts, to set myself up for a better tomorrow. In one easy movement, I undid the chain, taking the Dillan ring in my left hand. It's the only thing that's ever been his. The one with the strongest connection to his body and thoughts. "Sarah, you know this is pointless?" Chloe stared at me, arms crossed. "All that's going to happen is you're going to pass out again or get covered in blood." Cassian took a slow step towards the middle of the living room. "Cassian, give me the knife." I squeezed Dillan's ring in my hand eyes turned towards Cassian, who was standing next to me. I saw Cassian's worried eyes, which didn't leave mine for a second. From his pocket, he pulled out a small knife, held it out in my direction. I took the knife and cut my palm with my free hand, letting a few drops of blood fall on the map. I didn't feel any soreness in my hand guess I had gotten used to the slight irritation doing this very often.. "Refrecto serivia sesha, refrecto serivia sesha..." I closed my eyes and repeated the well-known search spell on my lips. All I could see was blind darkness. Come on, Dillan, please give me some small sign that I am still in your memory. Give me just one hope that it is still possible to find you. I know I may not feel anything for Nikita's black spell, but I am here. Please hear my mute cry for just a second. I felt the spell rejecting me bit by bit. The disgusting taste of metal slowly appears in my mouth. No. Not just another failed attempt. "Refrecto serivia sesha, refrecto serivia sesha..." I repeated the spell, not wanting to lose the connection I hadn't even had time to make. Suddenly, the dark coast of the sea appeared before my eyes. Strangely, I could feel a cold wind coming from the waving sea. It was quite dark around me. I could see the moon shining in the sky, which barely illuminated the restless waves. I tried to look around, but I was all alone. I can't recognize this place, with black sand under my feet and nothing but nature around me. No building, no forest, no place I could even get behind. Suddenly, a faint voice rang in my ears. A voice I would have known even in my sleep. "Sarah, come out. Run, leave, and don't come back." Dillan's voice sounded so faint that I could barely hear it whistling through the wind in my ears. In the blink of an eye, everything was gone. I could feel my chest heaving heavily, catching air. Cassian was sitting in front of me, his forehead furrowed, his face truly transfixed. Slowly I turned my gaze to Chloe, who was all white, her two big sparkling eyes never leaving my face for a moment. "What did you see?" A question left Cassian's lips, but I could tell that something was wrong. "Why are you looking at me like you see a ghost?" I turned my gaze to Cassian, who didn't take his eyes off me for a second. "Your hand Sarah." Cassian's gaze shifted to my hand, where I was waiting for the Dillan ring. My gaze slowly drifted down to the hand that held the ring. A tiny little black spot appeared on my palm. I am sure it was not there before. I returned Dillan's ring to my chain. Dillan's words to me kept going through my mind. I'm not sure if it's a dream, a vision, or a spell of searching. This experience was different from the ones I had had before. It was not a series of images announcing the location of the person I was looking for. It was more like one place created by someone to imprison a person. I don't know if I managed to break through to the real Dillan's subconscious. For the first time in so long, I have a tiny sliver of hope after so many attempts. The phone rang, shattering my thoughts. I blew out the candles in front of me, then pulled the phone out of my pocket. Without even looking at the phone, I knew it was Finn calling. "Hello?" I put the phone to my ear as I stood up from the floor. "Sarah, I'll see you at the police station in an hour." Finn's calm voice rang on the other end of the phone. "How's Lucy?" I stood up then walked slowly towards the front door of the house. Cassian realized what was happening and followed me. Of course, Chloe was not half a step behind. Her face still looked terrified. It was just a small black spot on my arm. I don't think I'm going to take it and lose my sanity. It's just a small consequence of wading through the trap of black magic - I hope. " Doesn't speak, doesn't eat. I'm very worried about her. She looks like not herself." Finn sounded extremely worried. "I'll try to fix it. Just bring her to the police station." I walked through the threshold of the house, down the terrace steps. "I'll see you after one hour." Finn finished the phone call. I walked briskly towards the car, but one unusual thing caught my eye. A pale yellow car pulled into the Cassian courtyard. I do not know anyone who drives such a car. My eyes immediately went to the driver. Unfortunately for me, it was Bree, which is what she needs here this time. Although I'm sure, she's with Cassian. Nevertheless, it didn't give me any warm feelings. I turned over my shoulder to see how Cassian was behaving. He nodded his head, inviting Bree out of the car. "What does she need here?" I mouthed softly, looking at Cassian. "Who is that girl?" Chloe's eyes immediately landed on Bree, who was already walking in our direction. "It's Cassian's friend Bree. I just don't know what she's doing here." I glanced at Chloe out of the corner of my eye as I explained everything to her. "Hi, Cassian." Bree gave Cassian a tight hug, then released him. "What are you doing here?" I looked at Bree as I leaned against Cassian's car. "Sarah, don't be silly. We all need to have a very serious talk." Cassian crossed his arms on his chest, standing next to me. "I don't have anything to talk about with her or you. I think our last meeting said it all." I rolled my eyes, sighing deeply. "Give me your hand." Cassian held his hand out to me, waiting for me to give mine. I extended my hand towards Cassian. I hesitated a little, but I knew he wouldn't do anything bad to me. I wanted to get rid of Bree as soon as possible, so I needed to hear what they had to say. Cassian's gentle fingers took my hand and turned my palm upwards. Then, he reached over my hand with his other hand, his deep green eyes never leaving mine for a moment. "The unveiling of the oath." The strange words left Cassian's lips. I couldn't believe my eyes. I saw a small crimson cross appear on the wrist. As if a scar had once been left there. What is it? Why is Cassian showing me this?
