Chapter 11 - Auntie Isabella?

2570 Words
"Who are you? Let Cassian go!" I looked at the man who was holding Cassian against the wall. "Long time no see mate, time to pay the debt." The man looked straight into Cassian's face. I looked with frightened eyes at the situation in front of me. Cassian was pinned against the wall by his neck. A man who appeared ultimately out of nowhere was threatening Cassian's life. I could make him back away with a wave of my hand. Small problem, we're in a public place. I really wouldn't want anyone to see me using the spell. I looked at the man who was pressing Cassian harder against the wall. His dark black hair braided into a long ponytail, his brown eyes never left Cassian's face. The tight jaw and the pale chest spoke of the immense anger boiling in the man's body. He was wearing dark black breeches and a simple jacket. I can guarantee that he is not a local. I never met him on the street or seen him anywhere in the city. His strength amazes me, which suggests he is a werewolf. But how can that be? I thought the only werewolf running around was David. Cassian certainly has a lot of explaining to do. How he know him in werewolf circles? Especially one who wants to eat him alive and collect a vague debt. The lies are coming out of Cassian's mouth again. He said he has nothing more to hide from me, but it's a clear lie. "Emmet, get your filthy paws off my neck." Cassian angrily stared with his red eyes at the man pinning him against the wall. "You know very well that one bite, and you're a corpse. Therefore, I am now the one who teaches the terms." Emmet's eyes glowed deep amber. I saw people gathering around, little by little, to observe the situation. Of course, it's not every day you see a fight in the street. Come on, people, don't make a circus, get out of here. There is nothing to see here. These men will sort it out without you. In the blink of an eye, the situation changed. A loud cracking sound reached my ears. I hardly understood the situation, but soon Emmet's hand looked tragic. Both hands were strange at the wrists, and by God, Cassian had broken his wrists. "Puppy, don't you dare threaten me before the full moon." Cassian shoved Emmet, who instantly took a few steps back. "You won't do what you have to do right now. You'll be sorry." Emmet spat the word right in Cassian's face. "Next time, I'll break your neck. Good luck licking your wounds." Cassian sent Emmet to the ground with one hard kick. "Cassian, don't make a scene. Let's get out of here before people get suspicious." I stared at Cassian with my arms crossed over my chest. I saw Cassian's glare still focused on the werewolf on the ground. The next second, his green eyes were back on me. It seemed that his outburst of anger was finally over. My phone in my pocket started ringing. It's probably Finn, worried that I'm late for a meeting. In one swift movement, I pulled out my phone, then dismissed the call. I took a quick step towards the police station, which was just around the corner. Cassian walked beside me without saying a word. Emmet didn't seem to have done him any serious harm, only to have made him very angry. Well, I'm certainly not going to interfere in another Cassian affair. Million of questions in my head about my mom and the oath still ring in my head. Why did he do it? Was it just because he wanted to spice up his life? There must be something more behind it. There's also that ring that changes colors. I'm well aware that the vows somehow connected my pendant and Cassian's ring, but why? What is the reason, or is it just a side effect? Cassian is hiding something from me again. Does his ring changing color have any influence on him? Or is it just a case of wanting to know what is wrong? I walked briskly towards the door of the commissariat, which I could already see ahead of me. Cassian grabbed the handle and opened the door wide, letting me in first. Finn's worried face instantly appeared before my eyes. I could see Lucy standing next to him, staring blankly out of the window. David was sitting on a chair, impatiently drumming his fingers on the waiting room table. "What took you so long?" A few wrinkles appeared on Finn's forehead. "Sorry, the traffic jam is my fault." Cassian raised his hand with a half-smile. "Was it necessary to bring that vampire here?" David's eyes immediately went to Cassian, who was standing next to me. "David, I thought we agreed without the insulting retort?" Finn's eyes immediately went to David. "Of course, I'll wait in your car." David got up from his chair and walked towards the exit. I don't know if it was intentional, but as David walked past Cassian, he gave him a sharp shoulder nudge. I could see the anger sparking as their eyes met. They probably hate each other more than they show. "Come on, let's go to my office. We'll sort things out, and then we'll go home." Finn nodded his head, indicating that I would follow. I walked briskly over to my sister, who was still completely unresponsive to her surroundings. I put my arms around her tightly and held her close to my chest. Lucy's two arms slowly wrapped around my waist. She put her head on my shoulder and stood there for a few minutes. I could feel my heart breaking again into small pieces. My little sister, I understand how terrible you feel. I wish I could tell you everything that is going on around you that you cannot see. Even though I want to, I can't do it. I can't burden her little heart with spells, vampires, and werewolves on the streets. I believe you will be safer if you are not aware of what is around you. That's the only way I can protect you. After a few more minutes, Lucy released me from her embrace and took a step back. I looked into my sister's red eyes, indicating the sleepless night she had. I feel damn guilty that I wasn't around. "Come on, Sara, let's go to my office. We'll have plenty of time once we've sorted things out." Finn was standing near the corridor leading to the different offices. I turned to look at Cassian, who was sitting on the waiting room sofa. His two green eyes turned towards the window where people were rushing by. As soon as I took a step away from Lucy and towards Finn, Cassian's eyes immediately stopped on me. Without a word, I turned my eyes towards Lucy, who sat down close to Cassian. I hope he understood what I wanted. Cassian nodded, then turned his eyes towards Lucy, who was looking at her hands clasped together. After a few more steps, Cassian and Lucy disappeared from my field of vision. I hope he will be able to alleviate some of her sufferings. "How are you feeling?" Finn opened the door to his office, letting me in first. "I'm fine. I'm trying not to think about it too much." I took a chair in front of Finn's desk. "Sure you don't want to tell me the whole situation of what happened that night?" Finn sat on the chair and opened the desk drawer with his other hand. "Fin, I'll tell you, but not now. Let's leave everything as it is for now." I looked with my green eyes at my uncle, who pushed the papers towards me. "Whatever you say, here's your name and signature in each page at the bottom." Fin flipped the first page of the folder, pointing his finger to the bottom of the paper. I opened the first page and ran my eyes over the words written on the page. I am about to give you the official form that I agree to make Finn my legal ward. However, these papers are more relevant to Lucy than to me. Since I'm an adult, I don't need guardianship. I'd instead sign the papers one page at a time, which I hope will be approved as soon as possible. After the last signature, I slide the sheets over to Finn's side. I could see his eyes following my every move to make sure I hadn't missed a page, that I had signed everything correctly. A quiet knock on the door drew my attention. I am sure that nothing should disturb us in this office at such an early morning hour. "Come in." Finn's voice rang through his small office. I couldn't believe my eyes when the door opened. Aunt Isabella, what is she doing here? I instantly jumped up from my chair and attacked the woman. Her two soft hands embraced me, gently stroking my hair. Isabella is my mother's sister who used to visit us when I was smaller. After my mother died, she had stopped visiting us, always busy with work in another part of the world. She didn't seem to have changed. Short black hair, green eyes and wide smile on her face. She was always like an older sister to me. She used to spend her days with Lucy and me when my mother was working. She would help with cooking, cleaning the house, and looking after Lucy and me. Isabella was like a nanny, like a best friend from childhood. "Hello sweetheart, how are you?" Isabella's eyes lingered on me. Her arms released me from her strong embrace. " Auntie Isabella, How did you get here?" I looked at Isabella's lovely feminine face. " Finn called with the news. Of course, I couldn't just ignore him. I had to visit my babies." Isabella kissed me on the forehead and hugged me on the shoulders. "It seems we haven't seen each other for a long time." Finn stood up from his chair and walked towards Isabella. "Thank you, Finn, for not being indifferent and reporting the situation." Isabella squeezed Finn in her arms for a moment. "I know I would do anything to put a smile on these girls' faces." Finn pulled back, smiling broadly. "What time did you arrive?" I looked at Isabella, whom I hadn't seen in what seemed like forever. "For a week, then I have to get back to work." Isabella's eyes lingered on me for a moment. "Well, we're done. We can all go to the cafeteria. I think we have a lot to talk about." Finn opened the office door to let the girls go first. "You're so big, and it seems like only a short time ago you were so tiny." Isabella walked beside me down the narrow corridor. "Don't forget, she's an adult." Finn gave Aunt Isabella a serious look. "Aunt Isabella." Lucy's voice echoed around the police station. A few seconds later, Lucy found herself in Isabella's arms. It was strange but lovely to see Lucy's improvement. My eyes slowly drifted to Cassian, who was sitting calmly on the waiting room sofa. His eyes slowly drifted towards me, and a small smile appeared on his face. "Who is this young man?" Isabella's eyes immediately rested on Cassian. "This is my friend." I glanced at my aunt, who was looking at me disapprovingly. "Is he coming with us?" Finn glanced at me as if waiting for confirmation. "I think it's about time. I was just walking Sarah to her appointment." Cassian stood up from the couch, turning towards the front door. "Young man, take your time. Sara's friends are our friends. I hope you won't be boasting and will join us in the café." Isabella just pierced Cassian with her green eyes. "I think that's a great idea." Lucy stand next to me and snuggled into my arm. Cassian seemed to have done an excellent job. Lucy doesn't look like a complete failure. At least she has finally regained her voice and is reacting to her surroundings. I mouthed thank you to Cassian, and he just winked and said no thanks. "Are we going to a good old coffee shop?" Isabella gestured towards the front door. Cassian politely opened the door to let everyone out, and he was the last one to leave. I am one hundred percent sure that Isabella is talking about the old café where we used to go when we were younger. Yeah, it's the same café where Chloe's aunt Joe works. Finn and Isabella walked towards the car. Lucy, Cassian, and I lagged a little behind, choosing another means of transport. "Dear, I'll meet you at the café. Drive safely." Isabella shrugged as she got into Finn's car. "Don't worry. I'll get them back alive." The corner of Cassian's lips turned up. Then he opened the door of his car. I took a seat on the passenger side, then buckled my seatbelt. The car soon moved out of the spot, towards a well-known café. Lucy sat in the back of the car without saying a word. "You know you don't have to go together?" I glanced at Cassian, who was driving the car in concentration. "I think you could use a company." Cassian winked at me. "When can I go back to my house?" Lucy's voice filled the car. "Finn said we could all go back to the house after the funeral." I glanced through the mirror at my sister in the back seat. "Perhaps you'll come back to Finn's with me tonight?" Lucy looked at me through the car mirror. "Of course, if you needs me." I smiled as I looked at Lucy. "It would be great if Cassian could come along." Lucy's eyes went to Cassian, who was listening intently to our conversation. "Cassian has his own home. He doesn't belong with Uncle Finn." I smiled as I looked out the car window. Five minutes later, Cassian parked the car near the café. At the entrance of the café, I could see David, Finn, and Isabella waiting for us. I crawled out of the car, then waited for my sister while Cassian walked behind us. I know how Cassian probably doesn't like the idea of sitting at the same table as David, but he does it anyway. "There you are." Isabella waved in our direction, smiling broadly. "Come on, let's go inside. I'm starving." David opened the door of the café wide and stepped inside. Soon the same café where I used to spend my childhood days came into view. My eyes automatically went to the bar where Auntie Joe was working as usual. I saw her eyes linger on David, and for a moment, she frowned. When she saw the look on my face, her eyes immediately sparkled. Then she raised her hand and waved to me, a silent greeting. "Hello, Joe, one hundred years." Isabella looked at Aunt Joe, who seemed to lose awareness of her surroundings for a moment. "Auntie Joe, are you all right?" I walked up to the bar, waving my hand in her face. "Son?" Joe's big eyes looked at David. "Mom?" David's incredulous words left his lips.
