Chapter 4 - You lost your mind?

Only now I had the full opportunity to see Cassian at full height. He is dressed as always in his style, with a black leather jacket and a white shirt underneath. Black jeans with a little bit of distressing, and black shoes that matched them perfectly. As my eyes rose above, they lingered for a moment on the chain around his neck, which I hadn't noticed before. It is a silver chain that reaches to the middle of the chest, and on it is a ring, light blue and fire-coloured. In one simple movement, my eyes went to Cassian's strong hands, in which he was holding a bag containing one of the fast-food snacks, and in the other two blood bags. He didn't wear a ring on either finger, which must be the reason. Or I've just been thinking too much lately. My eyes immediately went to the stern features of his face and the short, light beard that was beginning to grow. The next moment my eyes met his deep, dark green eyes. The world seemed to stand still for a moment, and I could see only Cassian face. "We just got back, you didn't miss anything important." Henry looked over his shoulder at Cassian, nodding a wordless greeting. "Catch, crow. Have they told you what they've been up to?" Cassian tossed the blood bags towards Chloe, who of course caught them in one easy motion. I could see Henry turn his forehead straight at me. Then one of his eyebrows went up as if he was telling me to explain myself as soon as possible. Most importantly my dad won't find out anything, I don't understand why they are all so dramatic. "Cassian, couldn't you hold your tongue?" I sneered at Cassian giving him an angry look, then glanced at Chloe. "I didn't want to kill a teacher or a student, so we decided to visit the wine cellar." Chloe crossed her arms over her chest and gave Henry a serious look. "Here's your order." Cassian placed the bag of chicken wings on the table, then walked over to the fireplace, taking the bottle of liquor from it. "Since when do you drink during the day? "Elaine shot Cassian a distrustful look as if she guessed what Cassian was really like. " None of your business..." Cassian picked up the bottle as if to lighten Elaine up. „ Maybe mine? "Elaine raised her eyebrows, and I saw her hand grip the back of the sofa tighter. This whole situation is looking very wrong. If someone doesn't start talking immediately, they'll s***k each other. "Calm down. Let's go to the kitchen, sit down there quietly and discuss our next steps." I got up from the sofa in a sudden movement. I must have stood up too quickly, I felt my eyes glaze over for a moment. It was as if my body became heavy, I lost my balance for just a second. In an instant, I felt someone's hand on my shoulder. I turned my already bright eyes to the person who had prevented me from falling. Sure enough, two green eyes were fixed on me, a few wrinkles of concern on his forehead. "Sarah, are you all right?" Cassian's eyes searched my face, slowly releasing my shoulder from the awkward situation. "Yes, yes, I'm fine, I was dizzy for a moment." I lifted the corner of my lips and walked towards the kitchen with my usual step. I could hear everyone getting up from behind. Henry was the first to stand up, Cassian followed him, and at the very back of them, Chloe and Elaine were chatting quietly about something. When I entered the kitchen, the first thing I did was put the kettle on, I needed a damn coffee to wake me up. It would probably be a good idea to eat those wings Cassian just slid onto the kitchen cabinet. "Coffee, anyone?" I turned over my shoulder to my friends, who were sitting huddled around the table, and with my other hand, I took one cup out of the cupboard. "Tea for me." Elaine raised her hand, then smiled and winked. "I've already drunk my portion." Cassian glanced at me, his chair closest to me, even though I was standing by the cabinet. "Cassian, have you been to my office? " Henry turned to Cassian to discuss further details of the plan. "No, I promised to do that when I picked Sarah up from school. But she ran away, that's the reason I haven't been in your office yet. I'll be there when I bring Sara home." Cassian watched my every move out of the corner of his eye. I put another cup next to mine, adding tea, and a dash of sugar. For a few minutes, I ignored my friend's conversation behind my back. The sound of the boiling kettle was quite loud, which made it difficult to hear their specific words. "Sarah Chloe mentioned the prom to me, who are you going with?" Elaine's voice finally drifted around the kitchen. "It's very simple - I'm not going." I poured two cups of hot water. "Sara graduation party, your dad would have a bad opinion about your actions." Henry wrinkled his forehead as he looked at me. Holding the hot cup in my hand I carried it towards Elaine's side. After three more steps, the cup finally reached the table. "I don't have a pair." I rolled my eyes as I walked back to the cabinet, sliding my coffee cup closer to me. I saw everyone's eyes slowly drift away from the first logical option - Cassian. I furrowed my brow as I looked at everyone at the table. Of all my friends, only one had a smile on his face. "Cassian? Have you lost your mind?" I raised a finger to my forehead. "Well, it's not the best option, but Cassian has saved your life once already. Don't forget I'll almost always be with you that night." Chloe winked, smiling. "I don't like him. But it's the only logical choice, you're not going to the prom with your history teacher." Elaine glanced at Henry out of the corner of her eye, then back at me. "The best option for me would be to stay at home, work on finding Dillan, the spellbook, or something useful." I sipped my coffee, the warm sweet liquid running down my throat. "We've got a week and a half until graduation, don't rush things. I think it's time for Sarah to go home." Cassian sat up from his chair surveying everyone at the table. "What is she going to tell her dad? That she ran away from class?" Henry's eyes darkened momentarily at Cassian's cold expression. "Come on, don't make a drama." Chloe rolled her eyes as she looked at Cassian and Henry. I didn't want a fight in the middle of the kitchen right now. All this nonsense about a damn prom I can just skip that. Then no one would be trying to take my life, and I'd be sitting in this house in peace. I'd try to dig up more details about Dillan's disappearance, and the spell renewal. I put my half-drunk coffee cup on the cupboard, then followed Cassian as he walked towards the living room. I could feel Chloe's questioning gaze on my back. I turned over my shoulder to show her my phone, which meant I'd text her. We passed the living room and finally the front door of the house in quick strides. I walked down the five steps, then walked down the path to Cassian's car. This time I had to open the door myself because Cassian was already in the car. There he goes again with his little tricks. I pulled the door handle, opened the door, then sat on the seat, put my seatbelt on. The engine soon roared to life, and we pulled out of the courtyard of Cassian's house at quite a high speed. All the time he didn't say a word, suddenly the turn of my street flashed before my eyes. I instantly realised that we were not going to my house at that moment. Cassian, what a piece of s**t you are. I turned to Cassian, who was holding the steering wheel with one hand, one finger constantly tapping the wheel. His green eyes focused on the road ahead as if he had done nothing wrong. " Cassian where are we going? I need to go home." I raised my eyebrows waiting for Cassian to turn around. I saw him completely out of sight, and a town sign announcing the departure out of bounds soon flew past my eyes. I could feel the anger rising in me little by little. Who does he think he is, just kidnaps me like this and does not listen to me? "Cassian, turn the car around right now or I will set it on fire." My voice sounded angrier than usual this time, I clenched my fists to calm my nerves. "Don't be so angry, little witch. I need to take care of one thing before I take you home." Cassian's green eyes watched my angry face for a moment. "I'm not involved in your affairs, am I?" I raised my eyebrows, resting my hand on my chin. " You're not, but I don't mind having company." I saw that little mischievous grin playing on Cassian's face, his eyes seemed to sparkle as he looked at me. "And you're not interested in my opinion at all, maybe I don't want to be in your company?" I wrinkled my forehead in disbelief at Cassian's insolence. "I'm sure I won't disappoint you." Cassian winked, then turned his gaze to the pose in front of him. My eyes slowly moved from Cassian's face to his chest. Then to the ring that hung around his neck. The only thought that kept me awake was why the ring was two colours? As far as I know, Cassian and Dillan's rings are identical - both blue. I looked at the ring around my neck for a second to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks on me. Yes, I'm right, but why is Cassian's ring different? "Your ring, why is it different?" I pointed my finger at Cassian's ring that was hanging around his neck. "I don't have a normal explanation for it. One day it just started changing colours." Cassian's eyes never left the road ahead of him and small wrinkles appeared on his forehead. "It's not supposed to be like this or am I wrong? Your and Dillan's rings are cursed, they shouldn't change colour." I crossed my arms over my chest, making myself more comfortable in the car seat. The car started to slow down, soon turning left towards a narrow path leading into the woods. The sun shone high in the sky announcing that it was already one o'clock. A gentle breeze was blowing through the slightly open car window. I looked at the trees and bushes coming through the window. I couldn't think of a reason why Cassian was taking me somewhere in the woods. Although I know he wouldn't hurt me, this whole situation seems very strange. "You're not wrong Sara, but I don't know what's wrong with my ring." Cassian slowly began to slow the car down. A small wooden house with a cosy little terrace rose before my eyes. As far as I could see, it was all woods, bushes and wildlife. The car's engine soon turns down, telling me that we had reached the right point. I tried to imagine who was living in this house, or was it Cassian? I opened the car door and put my feet on the soft grass. Cassian came to my side in one swift movement, and I flinched at Cassian's sudden action. I turned my big eyes on Cassian, warning him not to do that again. "Who lives in this house?" I raised my eyebrows as I walked down the narrow path towards the main entrance of the house. Cassian walked beside me without saying a word. I put my feet on the five steps to reach the front door. Cassian knocked a few hard knocks on the dark wooden door of the house. I felt a strange feeling for a moment, like anxiety, like fear in my chest. Never in my life have I felt that little tickle in my chest that seems to grow bigger by the second. With a loud sound, the door of the house opened, and my eyes went to the woman standing in the doorway. Pale yellow hair curled just reaching her shoulders, two blue eyes looked at me. Bright red lips, and a long black dress reaching down. I saw the girl's eyes go to Cassian for a moment, then a wide smile immediately appeared on her face. "Sarah, this is Bree, Bree, this is Sarah." Cassian's eyes went to the girl in the doorway for a moment, then to me.
