Judy’s Pov
After the nurse removed the IV, I booked an Uber and went to the hospital to see my mother. With the money Gavin gave me, I was able to settle the outstanding bills and pay for the ride.
Gavin and I are worlds apart. He has finally become the Alpha, while I, once the daughter of an Alpha, am now just a lowly Omega. What most people don’t know is that Gavin and I dated in high school. Back then, I was naive, and I was the one who ended things.
I used to chase him. He seemed perfect for me—or so I thought. My phone pinged with a new notification. I picked it up and checked the message.
‘...Dear Ms. Gonzales, we hope this finds you well. You are required to pay a sum of $100,000 for the repairs to Mr. Gavin King’s car, as well as for other miscellaneous damages. The deposit should be made to this account before next week.’
What?! He wants me to pay for damages? For what reason? I can’t do that. I don’t have that kind of money. Why would he do this, even after giving me some cash? Is this his way of reminding me how broke I am, that I’ll never compare to him?
I don't have that much to pay. Maybe if I beg him, he'll let this slide. I took an Uber to his company—King Enterprises, the largest firm in New York. After his father's death, Gavin took charge and grew the company into one of the biggest in New York City, making trillions in revenue each year.
As I walked into the reception hall, the impressive height of the interior and its sophisticated decor greeted me. I approached the receptionist, who was focused on her computer.
“Excuse me,” I began. “I would like to see Mr. King, please.”
“Do you have an appointment, ma'am?”
Damn. I didn't think of that. What am I supposed to do now? This might be my only chance to see him. I doubt I'll be able to talk to him again after today...think, Judy, think.
“Tell him his girlfriend is here to see him. She just got back from the hospital after taking a pregnancy test,” I said. Her eyes widened in shock, but she quickly straightened and nodded. After a few minutes, she turned back to me.
“You can wait here, ma’am.” I could feel her eyes raking me from head to toe, probably because of what I said. I bet Gavin has never had anyone claim to be his girlfriend.
After a few minutes, Gavin walked out of the elevator, his eyes fixed on me as he passed the receptionist and approached.
“What are you doing here?” he said, his voice cold and direct. He didn't even greet me or attempt any pleasantries. If that's how he wants to address me, then I can do the same. I pulled my phone from my bag and held it up to his face. He paused, eyes narrowing as he read the email.
“This was sent by you…wasn't it? Why do I need to pay for it?”
“I see you got the email. For more information, you can contact the number at the end of the message. That way, you’ll speak directly with my lawyer.”
He looked straight ahead, completely indifferent. He didn't care that I didn't have the money...
“Is that all you're going to say?”
“What else is there to say?”
“Anything. I…I can't pay that amount. If you were going to bill me, why bother giving me money?”
“I don't see anything wrong with the amount. If you can't afford it, I can ask my lawyer to reduce it. Surely, an amount within your means,” he said flatly.
“Please,” I begged. “Please let it go. I didn't mean to destroy your car.”
He paused, looking at me, and after a while, tilted his head. It had been so long since I’d seen him look at me like that. What was he thinking? What was going on in his head?
“Let me get this straight…you stood in the middle of the road, waiting for a car to hit you,” he said, folding his arms across his chest. “For what? Attention? To get money?”
“I—”
“You and I both know why you stood in the road, Ms. Gonzales. It was a little suic
ide attempt that you thought would bring you money.”
