Chapter Five

909 Words
Jennifer I was really nervous about our decision to inform Seth just yet, so I messaged my friends that we shouldn't go to Seth any longer. Since it was lecture free day, I decided to make good use of the day. I cleaned my room, did the laundry and arranged my closet. Not stopping there, I stepped into mom's room, to do the same thing I did to my room. She has really been so busy that I doubt she has enough time for herself. Tidying mom's room was a bit of work, her room was bigger than mine, and then I had to arrange all the clothes scattered on the bed neatly into the closet. While on that, a paper fell from the middle of the clothes. Opening it, I saw a transfer letter. Mom has applied for a transfer, but it started a year from now, meaning she wants Norman and me to be done with school. I heaved a sigh, placed the letter on the bedsstand and carried on with arranging the room. My mind wasn't at rest. "How would they feel if they found out I was a member of the notorious gang, or that I might not be able to leave the city with them?" These questions kept ringing in my ears. I was finally done with mom's room, so I returned to my room. I had nothing special to do, so I picked up my pencil and sketchbook, so I could make some sketches. Sketching at times relieves my mental stress, and I have been really stressed these past days. Breakfast isn't on my agenda at all. I needed to think of something, so my family wouldn't be in danger because of me. I didn't know how many hours had passed, I was really focused on sketching until Norman came into the room and distracted me. "Hey sis, what are you doing curled up here in your room? It's past noon. Come with me, let's go play a game" he says, dragging me like a kid. "Fine, fine, I'll go with you. Don't remove my hands please" I mumbled, getting up from the bed, then I placed my sketchbook on the bed with the intention of returning to it. Norman was leading the way while I followed behind him grumpily, but he didn't seem to care so far I am following him. We went down the stairs. I decided to go into the kitchen to get snacks before we started the game. The funny thing is, I keep beating his ass, but he always wants to play. "Norman, do you enjoy it when I keep beating you in this same game? You should just have let me be," I said. "That was then, sis. I've learned new methods of playing this game... You can't beat me" he said, grinning. "Okayyyyyy, whatever helps you sleep at night" I said, picking up the controller and sitting comfortably with the snacks beside me. The first two games were tough. Norman has really gotten better, but I'm still the boss. We decided to play one more, and then he beat me at it. "Yes, yes, yes" he screamed, jumping happily. "I have finally succeeded in beating Jen" he said, dancing round the sitting room while I kept laughing at his reaction. "And what's making this young man happy, that he has decided to disturb the peace of the neighbors?" mom said, opening the door and coming in. "Mom, I defeated Jen in the game for the first time" he replied to her, still jubilating. "You defeated Jen? Are you sure she just let you win?" mom questioned cheekily. "No mom, I didn't let him win... welcome back" I said and stood to go get her bag and took it to her room. I placed her bag on the sofa in her room and left for my room. I needed to complete the sketch I was working on before it got dark. I spent over three hours playing a game with Norman, though I'm not complaining... We do that once in a while to ease boredom, and that's where Norman always gets to be himself. "Jen, mom said you should come to her room," Norman informed me, peeping through the door since my door was slightly ajar. "You tidied my room, right?" mom asked immediately. I entered her room. "Yes mom, is anything missing?" I questioned. "Not at all, my daughter. I was just surprised. That was so thoughtful of you, thank you" she muttered, looking around her room impressed. "It's nothing mum, I just decided to make good use of the day," I said and left for my room. Getting to my room, I met Norman going through my sketchbook... I instantly hit his hands and collected it. "Did you take permission before entering my room? And you took my sketchbook without my knowledge" I started glaring at him. "Cool down sis, I just wanted to see what keeps you busy on our lecture free days... Anyway, why didn't you tidy my room too?" he questioned, grinning. I made to hit him again, but he jumped down from the bed, "do I look like your help, this dirty boy?" I asked, still pursuing him. "That's a lie, sis, you know my room is very, very neat," he stated, and left my room. Which wasn't a lie, Norman cleans his room daily, no matter how tired he is.
