Chapter 5: Father's request

"My lady?" Nina woke to being shook, opening her eyes as they fell on her maid.

"What happened?" Nina set up rubbing her head 'I must have fallen asleep' she thought looking around.

"I've brought your dinner my lady" Nina nodded at Jasmine waving her hand away, looking next to her Jasper was asleep on her pillow. Jasmine quickly nodded and left the room as Nina thought about her dream it felt very real.

"You didn't dream it you know" Nina gasped looking at Jasper who had his eyes open looking at her.

"So that was real?" Jasper nodded once

"I saw huge dragons are you going to become that large?" Nina sat down at her small dinner table as she eat her meal.

"No my queen, I'm a guide I won't become much larger than this unlike Fox who's a warrior making him larger than many other dragons" Nina nodded sighing, seeing the book out of the corner of her eye, she reached for it and turned to the page she laid her string.

"What's familaris?" (intimate) looking up at Jasper who had made his way back onto her sofa.

"It's an arua we can release to make humans or other dragons submit, it's rather overwhelming unless you're immune, like yourself or have gone through training to block it out." Nina nodded reading more.

"And scutum?" (shield) Peeking at Jasper just as Nina felt a power wave wrap around her.

"Shield my queen" Jasper nodded slightly as Nina made an 'O' with her mouth.

"I wonder.." A knock interrupted Nina conversation with Jasper as Jasmine walked in.

"My lady, your father is requesting you in his office."

"Thank you Jasmine" Jasmine exited the room, Nina rose to her feet reaching out for Jasper as he hopped on her her arm and sat in her shoulder like a bird, wrapping his tail around her upper arm. Nina left her room making her way towards her father's office, seeing guards stiffen at the sight of her and Jasper.

" Seems something has caused discomfort in the kingdom." Nina looked at Jasper out of the corner of her eye, stopping in front of her father's door knocking.

"Come in daughter." Nina entered looking at her father's office as it was filled with stacks of papers and books, his black desk with a sliver trim. He sat in his chair looking at Nina, a smile appeared on his face.

"As you know the ball was to make hope that you would get a mate and take over, unfortunately that ball was a bust. Lord Patrick is going to host a gathering for his son's birthday in the up coming week, I would like for you to attend."

" Hmm sounds odd, you being eighteen you would have felt something with this Lord's son, correct?" Nina nodded to her father, yet also answer Jasper's question too. If Victor was her mate she would have felt something even if he was not of age yet.

"Good, I've already confirmed a handful of my most trusted guards to attend with you, along with I'm giving you some free range now you're of age, to go into town seeking out a grown you want or handmade, with a guard escort." Nina nodded again, turning to leave her father's officer and walked back to her room.

"How can I talk with you without talking aloud, it would odd talking to myself, people will think I'm going mad." Nina sighed closing her rooms door as she started pacing.

"It's truly not that hard my queen, think of something you want to say but think of me while doing it " Nina let Jasper off her shoulder and looked at him nodding, taking in a deep breath.

" I'm thinking of the color purple " Nina thought looking at Jasper.

" See not so hard was it" Nina giggled as she quickly finished her meal, then raced to her closet pulling out a green dress that matched her eyes, long sleeves that made a small circle when they hung from her wrist, it was a perfect floor length dress with a short cape that hung behind it. Changing quickly as she finished off her look braiding her hair and letting drape over her left shoulder, she looked at Jasper as he nodded towards her slipping her flats in placing Jasper back on her right shoulder where he wrapped his tail again around her upper arm. Making a dash out her room door calling for a guard to bring the carriage around for the trip.

"I'm rather nervous Jasper, I haven't been outside the gates ever." Nina felt her heart start to race

" Breathe my queen, I'm here with you. I will protect you better than any guard could." Jasper nudged the side of Nina's cheek, causing her to smile.
