Ebony's POV
The room turned cold the moments the words left my lips. My mate's eyes flashed dark and her face froze. Her body stiffened and her breath caught in her throat. 'I don't do that.' she snapped and stood up and walked across the dimly lit room and pretended to look through the playlist of music. My eyes followed her and wondered what she meant.
•Stupid human.• My beast growled at me, pacing and clawing at my mind trying to come forward to speak. I pushed her back, confused and unsure of what I had done to change the atmosphere.
'Do you want me to dance?' she asked, turning to face me with a blank expression on her beautiful face. Why was she behaving like this? I shook my head and rose, racing towards her with my hands outstretched, hoping she would take them. She didnt. She took a step back and shook her head.
'Customers are not permitted to touch us.' she said, a note of panic in her voice and her hands firmly clasped.
'I told you love, I don't want to dance. I won't touch you if you don't want me to. Please tell me, what did I do? What is wrong?' she looked at me confused and angry. She turned and pressed play on the sound system and music started, a song I didn't recognize but beautiful music filled the room.
'I am not a w***e Miss Olsen. I may have had to dance for men for money over the last number of years, but i have never, not once, taken money for s****l favours from another human being. And today will not be the day I start.' Ruby all but whispered. Only because of my supernatural hearing could I hear her. My mouth dropped open and my heart sank.
•I told you you were a f**king i***t. Making my beautiful mate feel like a low rate trollop. How dare you disrespect our love like that. Shame on you!• Aurora roared in my head. I shook it violently to get her to stop. I couldn't help but reach out to touch her, I needed her to know that I wasn't trying to pay her for s****l favours.
'No, no, No love I don't want that.' I exclaimed as she whipped herself away from me and backed into the wall shaking her head. Her body trembled and she looked scared. I took a number of steps back and raised my hands as a sign of my leaving her alone. 'I only want to look after you Ruby. I want to take care of you, to make you feel like the angel you are. I'm sorry. Please, I don't want to scare you.'
I sat down on the sofa and tucked my legs under me. I pulled my hair round to my side and played with it. It was something I had done as a girl, it was my only allowed self soothe in my fathers eyes. Ruby remained stuck to the wall but her face had softened slightly.
I listened to the words of the song she had put on. It made my heart ache, she was begging for mercy.
Take it easy with me, please
Touch me gently like a summer evening breeze
Take your time, make it slow
Andante, andante
Just let the feeling grow
Make your fingers soft and light
Let your body be the velvet of the night
Touch my soul, you know how
Andante, andante
Go slowly with me now
I'm your music
I'm your song
Play me time and time again and make me strong
Make me sing, make me sound
Andante, andante
Tread lightly on my ground
Andante, andante
Oh please don't let me down
My eyes followed her as she walked slowly, cautiously towards the sofa and sat down again. She pulled her legs up like I had and played with the ribbon between her breasts. •Say sorry to mate. Make mate feel better• Aurora pleaded in my mind.
There's a shimmer in your eyes
Like the feeling of a thousand butterflies
Please don't talk, go on, play
Andante, andante
And let me float away
I'm your music
I'm your song
Play me time and time again and make me strong
Make me sing, make me sound
Andante, andante
Tread lightly on my ground
Andante, andante
Oh please don't let me down
Make me sing, make me sound
Andante, andante
Tread lightly on my ground
Andante, andante
Oh please don't let me down
Andante, andante
Oh please don't let me down
As the song ended and her eyes met mine, brimming with tears and shining brightly. She looked so beautiful, and I realized the words of the song were her plea. She felt it, she felt the bond.
RUBY'S POV
I steeled myself, knowing I had to speak. I was determined my voice would not betray the hurt I felt. Also the confusion. Why was I so hurt? I barely knew this woman. Why did it hurt so much that she thought I was a wh**e?
'I don't do that.' I said, my voice steady and determined.
'Music Rubes, put on some music.' I all but ran across the room and flicked through the music playlist, not knowing what I was looking for. 'Dance for her, get this private audience over and done with, leave and go home.' I told myself and asked if she wanted me told dance.
I hardly had the words out and she was infront of me, she wanted my hands but I couldn't have her touch me. The words, engrained in my head from many, many many nights of drunk men trying to claim me, wanting to believe that I would want them came bursting from my lips. 'Customers are not permitted to touch us.' I couldn't bear to feel her skin on mine when I knew all she wanted was to pay for a f**k.
'I told you love, I don't want to dance. I won't touch you if you don't want me to. Please tell me, what I did? What is wrong?' her voice trembled. I didnt know if I could believe her or not. 'Why? Why is she doing this? She told me she only wanted to talk. 'Come on Ruby, stand up for yourself. But first music.'
The song I didn't expect, but needed at that moment appeared on the playlist. Andante, Andante. I hit play and spoke.
'I am not a w***e Miss Olsen. I may have had to dance for men for money over the last number of years, but i have never, not once, taken money for s****l favours from another human being. And today will not be the day I start.' my voice a mere whisper. How she heard me I don't know. I could barely hear myself.
Ebony shook her head violently and reached out to me. I was terrified. She looked almost deranged. The fear in me reminded me of the fear I experienced the last time I performed.
'No, no, No love I don't want that.' She touched me and my back slammed into the wall. Her words made me gasp.
'I only want to look after you, Ruby. I want to take care of you, to make you feel like the angel you are. I'm sorry. Please, I don't want to scare you.' she said softly, and sat down on the sofa. She played with her long hair and her eyes never left mine. My body was reacting involuntarily. Next thing I knew, I was sitting, mirroring her on the sofa, watching her listen to my song.
When it ended, her face gleamed, she looked radiant, younger and as if all her prayers had been answered.
EBONY'S POV
•MATE FEELS THE BOND.•
'She's not human.' I thought.
