EBONY'S POV
Our eyes were locked and we looked at each other for what seemed like an age. I could't speak. I didn't know what to say or feel. I took in her scent, wracking each corner of my brain and my beast's trying to determine what creature she was. 'Does she know? Can she feel me? Does she know what I am? Why is she here? Why is she in the human world? Did she lie to me about her past? Who is she?'
My mind whirred and her scent excited and intrigued me. My beast was subdued, the same questions I had were running through her head too. My determination to keep her safe and care for her increased ten fold.
'Ok.' she whispered. Looking almost as surprised as I felt at her breaking the silence that had filled the room since her song of plea ended. Her hands were clasped tightly in her lap but she appeared calm. 'I won't come home with you, but I would like you to come home with me. I, I need my own home tonight.' she continued.
I nodded, bursting with happiness but not wanting to frighten her, so I just smiled and nodded. I reached out my hand and placed it tentatively on hers. She didn't move but the small gasp that escaped her let me know that the sparks that shot through my palm to my heart were felt in some way by her too. My beast leapt in excitement. Feeling her touch sated Aurora and she knew more than I did that the more we touched, the stronger our bond would become.
'Of course my angel. If that will make you happy, I will gladly come home with you. Can we go now?' My question was more Aurora's question than my own, but I wouldn't have been far behind. She giggled at my enthusiasm and my heart soared, it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard and my heart ached to hear it again.
'I need to get changed and get my bag and see if Millie plans to stay tonight, but yes, we can go now. I'll be back in 10.' She smiled and left, the speed of her movements swirling the air and swirling her scent in the room. Thank goddess for it because Aurora was ready to let loose a roar and the thought of another woman with our mate.
'CALM AURORA.' I shouted. 'We can't risk scaring her, you know this! She is scared and only trusting us because of the bond. Please, please stop!' She paced in my mind. She knew I was right but I felt her pain. The thought of someone else touching our mate made me want to rip them apart, whoever it was.
I pulled on my jacket and smoothed my hair. My phone buzzed in my pocket and I saw 18 missed calls and 10 messages from my brother. 'Shit.' I exclaimed. I was in for it. Calling him back and trying to gather my thoughts, to try and prepare some words to calm him too. I needed Ruby to trust me before she met my twin. He would terrify her. He terrified me.
•She will bring him back to you Ebony. The bond will help you repair your relationship. He needs mate.•
I hoped with all my heart she was right, but I still needed to help her trust me. I needed to know who she was, what she was and God only knows what else.
'You have found our mate sister. Bring her to me.' My brother snarled down the phone before I had time to say hello. 'BRING HER TO ME NOW OR I WILL COME AND GET HER.' he roared. His beast was in control. I knew that if I didn't do what he wanted and soon, his beast would find us.
'Listen to me brother, She needs time. She is human. She is scared and I can not bring her yet. You can not come here. It is forbidden.' I try to steel my voice, knowing his beast will not be easily swayed, praying he wouldn't know that I was lying about her being human. He roared and my heart broke. I felt his pain and I knew his sorrow.
Years, many many years we had searched for her. Our beasts grow wild the longer they have to wait for their mates. My brother's beast was wilder than mine, more angry and more difficult to control. Our father had forbidden him to travel to the human realm as he was no longer able to control his beast.
'My soul, hear me. We are coming.' I whispered. Tears spilled down my cheeks, I prayed to hear my brother's voice, not that of his beast. 'She is perfection, she is all we dreamed of. An angel, created by the Goddess for you and I. We will be whole. Please Brother, please. Be patient for her. She is worth more than we have to give her. I beg you. Give me some time. We will come to you.'
The silence on the end of the phone was deafening. After more than four minutes came another roar. This time it was the roar of my brother and my heart soared. 'A week Ebony, please. Just a week.' he begged, the voice I longed to hear and the line went dead.
•Our brother is strong. You are strong. We are strong Ebony. Our mate feels our bond. Our mate is strong. Our mate feels our bond.•
I nodded, needing to believe Aurora that I could help our mate enough in time to bring her to our brother. I needed to pull myself together and focus on Ruby. I wiped my tears away and applied some gloss to my lips. Swallowing down the last of the champagne, I smoothed my hair again and sat on the sofa, taking in my mate's scent and allowing it to calm my impatience before she returned.
I pulled out my phone and called my father. He would be angry that I had cut the meeting short with his associates in the human world, but he would understand. He searched for our mother for almost as long as we were searching for our Ruby.
'Ebony.' he snapped. He was never one for pleasantries. 'What in the name of all that is good have you done? You have royally f**ked up this deal for me. I hope you have a good explanation for me.' I laughed, knowing he wouldn't care once I told him, but p**sing him off in the moment. 'WELL?' he boomed.
'I found her Daddy, I found our mate and the salvation of our kingdoms.'
