Finding my true mate

New beginnings

The next morning my dad took me my bother and Keith to the airport. Me moving away really made my dad so sad. He started to cry as we were saying goodbye and I did too. It was hard. I hadn't ever been without him close by and now there was going to be 2000 miles in between us. It had to be done though.

We boarded the plane and it took about 4.5 hours to get to the airport in California. It had been a while since I had seen my mom. When we went to grab our luggage my mom was waiting for us. I gave her a huge hug. I was so happy to be there.

The next couple of weeks went by really fast. We went camping in Pinecrest, went hiking, went to San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. It was a blast.

On one of the last days before Keith and my brother went back to Texas, Keith and I walked the golf course by my moms house inside the pack territor.. When we got to hole #7, he stopped and turned to me. He got down on one knee.

"Will you marry me?" I was surprised to say the least. Our relationship hadn't been great but I let go of all of that.

"yes!" I said and he slipped the ring on my finger. We hugged and kissed and headed back to the house.

On the last day it was of course emotional. I didn't know what the future held for me. I might stay here for the rest of my life. I didn't know when I would see them or any of my friends or family in Texas again. I was excited for this new adventure of my life, but scarred at the same time. We took them to the airport and said our goodbyes.

When we got home my mom and stepdad tried to keep me busy so I wouldn't be so sad. It worked some. I texted Collin.

welp I'm here in California now.

-I don't know why you moved away, you should have stayed here with me.

yeah well I needed a fresh start.

I texted my dad and sister as well to let them know we had taken them to the airport. I missed Texas really badly. My mom had gotten me a new phone. I was excited.

I was tired so I went to lay down in my bed. There was a pool right by the house and I was definitely planning to swim a lot in my free time. I didn't know anyone, so had to start somewhere.

I few days later I decided to go lay out at the pool and get some sun. I was laying out and there were 3 girls at the pool. They were laughing and talking and having fun. I was never one to go up to anyone and start a conversation so I just stayed put quietly.

There was a bee and one of the girls was squealing and freaking out. The other was trying to get it out of the water and it was actually a really funny sight. One of them asked me for my name and we got to talking. Her name was Shyanne. Shy for short. The other was Bella and then Alexis. I decided to head home and have something to eat.

"bye it was nice to meet you" Shy said.

"yeah yall too!"

I was really good at finding people on f*******: so I decided to think on it and would try to find her later if I decided it was worth potentially being a weirdo.

After I ate something I went ahead and started searching f*******: to see if I could find and make friends with the girls I met today. I started with searching for Shy, I found her, sent a friend request and messaged her.

-Hi I met you and your friends today at the pool. I just moved here a couple weeks ago and outside of my mom and step dad and his family, I don't know anyone. I was just trying to get to know some people here. sorry if this is weird.

I logged out and checked my phone. Keith had texted me.

-Hey what are you up to?

Just got done at the pool and eating, I met some girls there. So hoping that's the start of meeting people to hang out with. it's going to be no fun if I have nobody to do anything with.

-yeah that's true. but you will be able to make friends. you're in a new place. it will take time.

yeah I know. I figure that I would meet more people when I get a job out here too.

-yeah. that's also very true. I miss you.

I miss you too. what are you up to ?

-Well I may be moving to Oklahoma with my aunt and uncle and my cousins. My mom is just a mess and I simply can't deal with it anymore.

Understandable. But Oklahoma? grosssss

-haha. yeah well it's better than the situation I'm currently in.

touche. Well I'm going to go spend some time with my mom. I'll talk to you later. love you.

-love you too.

My mom was watching TV. I went to sit with her. "How's it going babygirl?"

I shrugged "fine..."

"home sick?"

I nodded my head "yeah a bit but I'm sure that will go away a bit over time. Just never lived anywhere but Texas with the pack so it's just an adjustment. "

"Completely understand. I have been where you are."

I smiled. I knew what she meant. she was referring to when she left the Texas pack. I nodded.

My step dad went and got some taco truck burritos and these things were huge and the best burrito I had ever had. Now I don't know if that is because I had spent the last year not eating much.

"mom I want to get a job. any ideas?"

"yeah actually George's neice works at IHOP and said that she could help you get a job there. It would be graveyard shift if you're okay with that then we will go up there tomorrow and fill out the application."

"I am fine with anything to keep me busy at this point."

"awesome. I will text Tania and let her know!"

We went to bed and then woke up kind of early and ate breakfast and got ready to head to fill out the application. I needed to check and see if Shyann had messaged me back yet. I have to remember to do that.

We got to IHOP, I filled out the application and gave it the manager and she interviewed me on the spot and hired me.I noticed there were quite a few people that appeared to be close to my age so that was a good start.

I got my shirts to wear when I started and then we went to go buy some non slip shoes ans some black pants. I was excited. This was the beginning of something amazing. I could feel it.

I talked to Keith every day and night whether it was a phone call or text we kept in contact. We were engaged after all. I did talk to Collin every now and then but it wasn't anything consistent. Basically he saw no point because I was 2000 miles away. So I put all my focus into my relationship.

I got a message from Shyann and she was so sweet. She gave me her number and invited me to hang out. We found out that we just lived around the corner from eachother. She was a couple years younger than me but she was such a fun light person. So age didn't matter one bit. Friends are friends.

I started work as a hostess/cashier. Everyone was very welcoming. I noticed this Hispanic guy right off. He was tall, dark hair and was really friendly with everyone. He was good at his job obviously and I'm sure the customers liked him. He was chatty. I met a girl named Leanne. She was a hostess as well. She was gorgeous. I had my times of dating a girl in Texas but it didn't go really anywhere. We did kiss but her parents didn't approve so we ended up breaking up.

Leanne was another level of beautiful. She was very fun and outgoing it seemed. The Hispanic guy came up to me while I was at the hostess stand.

"Hey you must be new, my name is Jose, but people call me Speedy"

"Hello, nice to meet you. my name is Kallie."

"Are you new in town or just new job? you don't sound like you're from here."

"haha no I actually just moved here from Texas a few weeks ago. my mom lives here dad and everyone else is back in Texas."

"Wow that has to be quite the change in pace."

"Haha yeah but it's nice."

"Well what happens in Cali stays in Cali." he said and winked at me.

I was drawn to him and I knew that that was wrong. I was engaged. I got home and I found out that Keith had been picked up and was in Oklahoma now. He started to act weird and a little distant over the next couple of weeks. I hacked his f*******: and found a ton of messages between him and several girls. I also got a message from a family member, that come to find out was mad at him saying that he was hanging out with all kinds of girls and I needed to talk to him.

I decided to message the girls from his f*******: that he had been talking to. I basically told them all he was engaged and that they all needed to back off. Some were sorry others not at all. Keith found out and I told him that this engagement needed to be put on hold because he hadn't changed one bit!

We lived inside the pack territory and everyone was werewolves so I decided to go let off steam in my wolf form. I wondered how everyone would act when they saw my wolf was amethyst colored.

I hadn't been using my powers. I could feel them there. It just wasn't something I needed to use right now. I wanted to learn though. So I was going to talk to my mom after my run.

I ran and roamed for about an hour. I met some other wolves in the pack and they joined me. It was great how accepting everyone was.

When I got home I talked to my mom about my powers.

"I need help tapping into my powers. I can feel them there but I haven't used them. I am almost scared to. "

"Do not fear what you are Kallie, we will do some things like meditation to clear your head completely and just concentrate on your powers and we will see what you can really do! this will be fun!"

"Yay I am excited now ! thanks mom! I am going to the pool. Shyanne is going to meet me there. did you want to come?"

" I may meet you down there, not sure. go have fun. I will text you if I end up heading over though."

"okay cool. see you in a bit."

I headed over to the pool, Shyann was already over there laying out. I pulled up a lounge chair next to her and laid may towel down on it and got settled with some tanning lotion.

"Hey you made it! "

"Ya ! thanks for coming out here. it would be pretty lonely alone out here and not knowing anyone yet."

"don't worry you will meet plenty of people!"

We laid out until we were hot and then jumped into the water. She asked me about Texas and how things were, why I left and all that fun stuff. I was still wearing my engagement ring. I didn't know why. I had called off the engagement. I felt naked without it though and it was pretty.

I decided I should take it off so when I got home I did just that. Shyann and I text quite a bit. She was just a really fun person to be around and so positive all the time. It was great !

I found Speedy as he called himself at work on f*******: and sent him a message.

Hey, we work together and I know this might be weird but maybe we could hang out sometime. I don't really know anyone around here or anything so I think it would be cool to hang out. Feel free to text me if you want my number is 743-657-8963.

I sent the message and now we wait. I couldn't deny I was drawn to him. I think it was just the way that he carried himself. Pretty confident and I liked that about him.

I decided to take a nap before work because I was tired. So I went to my room and laid down and slept for about 5 hours.

My alarm woke me from my sleep. I got up showered and got ready for work. I put in a little extra effort. I felt like I needed to break up with Keith but I didn't know how to do that. I had to do it nicely because I didn't want to hurt anyone.

I checked my phone. It was about time to go. I got my mom's keys and headed to work. When I got there it was pretty slow. I was able to get to know some of the other people that worked there. There was a guy named Aaron. He was tall and a muscular guy. I was attracted to him but not drawn to him. There was a guy named Miguel he was the bus boy and then there was a guy named Mitchell. Those were the wait staff the other hostess and then the bus boy as well. I was the only girl there, but if I'm being honest that was fine with me. Girls tended to be drama so the less the better.

"Hey there gorgeous" I turned to see who was talking to me. it was Speedy.

"Hey! what's up?"

"how are you doing today?" he asked.

"good. is it always this slow at this time of night?"

"yeah it is. makes for a fun shift though. here come with me. I will show you around the back room and the kitchen."

I followed him. He showed me where the extras were for cups and napkins silverware and the freezer. He showed me how to make drinks and all that fun stuff too.

"Awesome thank you! though I don't know if I will remember all of this. So I may come bother you if I need help." I said with a smile.

"You can bother me anytime."

When we went back out the other girls that worked there were picking up their paychecks. Speedy was flirting with me at the hostess stand for a minute and then he went over to say hi to the girls that were there. It was Leanna and Megan that had arrived. I hadn't really seen Megan. Usually when I was coming in she was leaving. I could tell that there was tension between them, I didn't know if they had dated or what but there was something there if not anymore at least at some point there was. I hope there wasn't anything between them. Then again why do I care?

I shook the thoughts from my head. Speedy came over and talked to me some more. It was almost break time for me and I was starving. The cooks made us whatever we wanted so I let them know what I wanted and they got it made for me.

I was sitting down at one of the back booths closest to the kitchen when I saw Speedy come up next to me, "Hey mind if I join you?"

"not at all." I smiled. He was just so smooth. It made butterflies happen and my insides heat up.

My shift ended at 4am and I was ready to go home. I told everyone that was still there bye and headed home. I was so tired. It was a good night. I had to call Keith later and talk to him about some stuff.

When I got home I went straight to bed. I was off for the rest of the day. I slept until 11am and when I got up I went to make some lunch, but my mom was already ahead of me.

"Morning sunshine!" she said

"No too much mom. haha. I'm not that awake yet. but good morning."I said and smiled. I went and sat down at the barstools by the counter.

"hungry?" she asked

"starving!"

"I made sandwiches since it's close to lunch time."

"perfect!"

We were sitting there just talking and enjoying our time together. This was such a calm life they lived here and I could get use to it. I felt my phone buzz. ah crap I have to talk to Keith today. I got to remember that.

I pulled my phone out and it was an unknown number, I opened the text.

-hey its Speedy from work. you messaged me so here's my number. text me anytime.

hey! how's it going ?

-great now that I'm talking to you.

well aren't you the charmer?

-you could say that. haha. do you wanna hang out sometime?

yeah that would be cool. I do have to let you know I am with someone. We were engaged but I ended that. but we are still dating.

-I told you whatever happens in Cali stays in Cali,  once you cross that border nothing matter. You're single when you crossed that border into another zip code.

haha I don't think that's how that works.  but good try. I will talk to you later.

I wanted nothing more than to have fun. Fun that I hadn't gotten to have since I was with Chris then Collin for almost a year and I was too stuck on him to move on to anyone. There was that brief time of Ray and then was with Keith for the last year and a half.

I called Keith to see what he was up to.

-"Hey babe!

"Hi! what are you up to?"

-"Oh nothing much about to go play some basketball with Danny, Chance and Wayne. What about you?"

I couldn't help it but I didn't trust him at all. I didn't feel a connection with him anymore. It was like when I left Texas the connection with him was severed once we had been apart for a couple weeks. I don't know how to explain it.

"Oh ya know. just hanging out. my mom is having a Bar-B-Q so we are getting the stuff ready for that. I've met some cool people here. Everyone is so welcoming. Are you sure there's nothing you need to tell me Keith?"

-"yes I don't know why you don't trust me Kallie. Anyway I gotta go. I will talk to you later. Have fun at the party or whatever. love you bye.

"ya okay... love you too." and I hung up. It was time to get my drink on.

I went to get freshened up for the party. It was pretty much a welcoming party for me afterall. Shortly there after people had started arriving. I greeted everyone and everyone was so chill.

I instantly was having anxiety so it was time for some liquor. I had margaritas, captain Morgan coconut rum on the rocks... a lot of that actually. Before I knew it I was feeling it and hard. I didn't feel so well so I went to the restroom. I didn't get sick though, instead I laid on the cool tile floor and passed out. I had locked the door. I have no idea how long I was out for before I heard a knock on the door.

-"Kallie? you okay?" it was my mom.

"Oh uh... yeah. Just was really hot... I'm fine..." I stood up and was instantly dizzy. f**k I grabbed my head and opened the door. " I'm uh.. going to go lay down in bed for a bit and sleep this off." I said

she nodded "do you need anything?"

"mmm maybe some d**n water" I said laughing and walking into my room.

I was a lightweight, there was no doubt about that. It was a combination of I'm only 5'1", 110 lbs if that and I really hadn't drank much at all prior to this.

My mom brought me a glass of water. I slowly sipped on it and then took the headache medicine she brought me and went to sleep for the rest of the night.

This was a fun start... I needed to hang out with some friends. That's for sure. Have some more fun. That's exactly what I planned to do.
