Alyssa is a twenty five year old waitress in a small town, struggling to pay her rent. She's never thought of herself as being beautiful and always compares herself to her co-workers. When a mysterious stranger comes into the diner and they brush hands she doesn't realise that her whole world is about to change.
Jayce is a thirty three year old Wolf King. He has recently taken over as king and is in need of a queen immediately. When he has a meeting at the diner where Alyssa works, he realises that she is his mate. He takes her from the human world and brings her back to his home, but Alyssa wont stay without a fight. So Jayce makes her a proposition. To stay with him for three months so he can prove his love for her. Their worlds are about to be changed forever.
Will she stay? Will she go back home?
An excerpt:
"Please, Alyssa," he pleaded.
"Shut up," I hissed. "How do you know my name?"
"I'm a King," he said slowly. "It's not hard for me to find out information."
I stared at him stunned. A king? This couldn't be possible, it couldn't be true. He was just saying this to appeal to me. Maybe he thinks I like rich men.
"A King?" I asked slowly. He nodded. "You don't look like any kings I've seen in the newspaper. You're the King of what?"
"That's complicated," he said.
"Complicated?" I asked back.
He nodded. "Will you let me finish the story before jumping to conclusions?"
"I can't promise anything."
"Very well," he chuckled. "I'll keep it short. We are all wolves here, shifters if you will. My father united several packs under a single kingdom so we would not continue to wage war. He wanted peace, prosperity for our kind. So he united them, and in return they crowned him King."
"And now you're the king?" I asked. He nodded. "So what's this mate stuff?"
"We believe in the moon. The moon is a goddess and she blesses us with our shapeshifting abilities. There's a legend that the first wolf was split into two, and that your other half is your destined mate."
"Even if I did believe you," I said slowly. "Which I don't. But if I did...I'm not one of you."
"It's rare," he said, rubbing his temples. "But sometimes we are mated to humans."
Humans. Me. He means me.
