Jayce's POV
Our hands brushed for just a moment, a quick moment and I felt that spark of electricity. She set down the coffee cup and turned away to serve other tables and before I could even stop it I let out a low growl. Something I couldn't control. I knew exactly what this meant.
She was my mate.
Shaking my head I looked up across from me at the two gentlemen unbothered and unmoving. I doubt they even realised what had happened. Perhaps they thought she was just clumsy and I had growled at that. Humans were fickle things, sometimes they were so clumsy and so fragile. But as I glanced towards that fiery red headed woman serving people lunches and smiling at peoples grattitude it made my heart flutter a little. Little did she know that everyone in this diner except for the two people in front of me, worked for me.
"Shall we begin Sire?" They asked lowly. Barely audible for a human to hear. I glanced at them and nodded, I hated these meetings. They weren't fun for anyone and I'd rather look at the delicious woman who was turning her attentions to one of my pack mates. Not that she would know who it was. "Sire, we have been tasked to inform you..."
"That Aiden wouldn't be meeting me," I said cutting them off. Their faces showed a look of panic, good. "It's such a shame he doesn't place a high value on either of your heads."
I picked up my teaspoon and started spinning it between my fingers. They looked shocked, and they should. As a King I had more authority than they ever would. These two low lives were just here to distract me, to make it seem like Alpha Aiden was trying. It wasn't working.
I cleared my throat.
"I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation," I continued. "This is becoming a real issue that we are facing. Aiden cannot just annex his lands, and I will not tolerate it."
"I understand Sire," the one of the left said solemnly. "This is not what anyone wanted."
"Can you explain?" I asked curiously.
The one on the right shifted uncomfortably.
"Sire, nobody wanted Aiden as Alpha. But he murdered his older brother, he murdered his family to get the position." I took a sip of coffee just staring blankly at them. "We are bound to him."
"Someone could have said something earlier," I said angrily, just loud enough to be audible. They both looked ashamed. They both looked like I had caught them out doing something they weren't supposed to. I clenched my jaw and set down the coffee. "This is unacceptable."
They both nodded.
"You go back, you tell people if they want to be spared then they will leave and join my forces. They will pledge loyalty to me directly, not to Aiden. And if Aiden wants to be spared then he will need to beg for forgiveness."
"Sire I don't think he will go for..."
"Enough!" I said louder that time. The whole diner stopped and it was eerily quiet. I rubbed my temples trying to calm down a little. "I don't want to hear it, you will go back. You will tell them this is my decision. If he has not surrendered by the end of the month I will wipe him and the rest of his lineage out am I understood?"
They both nodded eagerly and rushed to get out of there.
An angry Alpha was one thing, but an angry King could easily take out the entire diner and make the whole incident disappear like it was nothing. I turned my attentions back towards my mystery woman. She was now behind the counter chatting to one of the cooks. She laughed at something they said and I felt a tinge of jealousy hit me.
My whole life, I have been waiting for her.
Now here she is, covered up in her blouse and skirt, apron wrapped around her waist. A pen tucked behind her ear and her hair slicked back into a bun. She turned her head and I raised my fingers catching her attention. She was so graceful as she walked, it was like she glided across the room towards me.
"Can I help you sir?" She asked nervously.
I smiled. I liked making her nervous. She was so small barely five foot six. She didn't even reach my shoulders, not that I expected her too. I wanted to throw her over my shoulders and take her home. To my home. Nothing would stop me, I would have her. I would mark her, mate her and make her have my children whether she likes it or not.
"The check please," I said.
She gave me it quickly and once again our hands brushed against one another, this time I heard her audibly gasp. She looked at me with wide eyes and I smiled. She turned and left to go behind into the staff room. My Beta Mason came over and looked at me cautiously.
"Looks like you found her sire," he said quietly. I nodded. "I never imagine you would be mated to a human. Shall we take her back?"
I shook my head. "Let's not. I don't want to clean up any loose ends unless I have to."
I left a considerable tip on the table and got up to leave. Mason nodded understanding my meaning. To take her now would leave her co-workers confused and I didn't need my people seeing the aftermath of that. Despite my instincts wanting to just take her and make her mine I knew that I couldn't do that. I would have to wait until she went back home, I would bring her back to my home. I will make her my mate.
After all, I am a King.
