Chapter 1: The Thunderbolt News
In the Wolf Clan territory, within the Alpha's den, a pitch-black room.
"Pain! It hurts so much!"
Ailsa, in a daze, felt sharp pain piercing through her body.
Was she dreaming? Why was her body in such agony?
Was her consciousness behaving this way because she was dreaming?
"Hold on a little longer, it will stop hurting soon." A deep and suppressed voice came from a man, filled with a hint of anguish.
"Mmm..." Ailsa groaned uncomfortably.
The room was dark, and the man couldn't see the woman's face clearly, but he could sense the clean and pleasant scent emanating from her body, along with her innate beauty.
After what seemed like an eternity, the man finally stopped. He took a deep breath, exhaling a cloud of turbid air.
Looking at the woman who had fainted beside him, he also felt a darkness creeping over him, plunging him into oblivion.
When Ailsa opened her eyes again, she felt as if her whole body had been crushed by a wheel, weak and in pain to the point of almost collapsing.
She slowly sat up, her eyes bleary. Where was she?
She remembered coming to the fifth floor to retrieve some documents for her sister Alice.
"Hey, what's the room number you mentioned, and where are the documents?"
"Room 503, alright, I got it."
She remembered hanging up the phone, and as she looked around at 511, ready to leave...
"Clap!" The surrounding lights suddenly went out, and then she was forcefully pulled into the room.
Feeling a bit drowsy from the cold medicine she had taken, she began to feel dizzy and her consciousness started to blur.
After a long while, Ailsa regained her senses, feeling someone beside her. She widened her eyes suddenly, and there was a strange smell lingering in the room.
Terrified and at a loss, Ailsa quickly got out of bed and started dressing. It's said that darkness can conceal a person's most vulnerable moments.
Trembling uncontrollably, Ailsa could barely hold herself together. She bit her lip tightly, the intense pain making her slightly more composed.
In the darkness, she found her bag and her phone. There were two other items beside her phone, but she didn't think too much and put them all into her bag. Then, supporting her sore body, she stumbled out of the room.
Ailsa returned to the Windham Family villa in a daze.
As dawn broke, she saw the hickeys on her body, and fear gripped her heart.
She wanted to sneak back in quietly. She didn't want anyone to know about last night's ordeal.
Just as she was about to open the door, she suddenly heard joyful voices from inside. Why were her mother and Alice up so early?
"Mom, we've raised Ailsa, this ungrateful girl, for so many years, and she's finally proving her worth. Bob is such a lecherous man, but Ailsa suits his taste perfectly. I never expected her to be worth so much, a whopping ten million."
"Hmph, we've raised her until she graduated from college, all for this day, right?"
As Ailsa listened to the conversation between the mother and daughter, it was like a bolt from the blue, and the pain struck her heart.
"In the future, whenever we encounter someone like Bob, let Ailsa accompany them. It will definitely benefit our Windham Family's business. The dose we gave her last night was too light; she only said she had a cold. I didn't expect the timing of the medication to be just right."
Through the glass door, Ailsa could clearly see Alice, proud as a noble princess, yet with eyes filled with venomous malice.
"Alice, when she comes back, you better coax her nicely. That i***t, she's been obedient since childhood, and there's a long way ahead. We can't just have raised her for twelve years for nothing. We need to squeeze everything out of her bit by bit."
Ailsa couldn't believe how her once-admired beautiful mother now appeared so ugly in her eyes.
"Mom, when you hit her with the car back then, not only did she lose her memory, but you also brought her back, making her earn money for the family. Mom, what a brilliant decision," Alice laughed with wickedness, her narrowed eyes and twisted mouth a repulsive sight.
Listening to the venomous conversation between mother and daughter, Ailsa was overwhelmed with anger, her chest heaving with fury. She thought she was an orphan brought back from the orphanage by the Windham Family, but that wasn't the truth.
Was it because their car hit her that they brought her back, fearing responsibility?
Hearing their malicious dialogue, Ailsa felt as if she had fallen into an icy abyss, trembling uncontrollably.
She had been obedient to the Windham Family for many years, hoping to earn her mother's genuine affection. She had lived according to her mother's preferences, never truly being herself.
"When we hit her, she had already passed out. I thought she was dead, so I threw her into the trunk, planning to secretly take her out of the city and bury her. But I didn't expect her to survive."
"Realizing she had amnesia, and to avoid being charged with manslaughter, your father and I had no choice but to falsely claim we adopted her from the orphanage. Don't let it slip in front of her. She had a decent upbringing and came from a good background."
Mother Cherry held her head high with pride, her mocking smile showing that raising her as a daughter had finally paid off.
The venomous words echoed in Ailsa's ears, nearly splitting her head open.
Ailsa felt the pain raging deep within her body, her gaze shifting to the increasingly bright sky as she rushed out of the Windham Family villa.
Running wildly, it was still early, and there were few pedestrians on the road.
The morning mist enveloped her, adding to her already icy-cold body.
Tears blurred her vision as she immersed herself in her world of sorrow.
Her beautiful mother, whom she had always respected, turned out to be the one who pushed her into the fire pit.
Her beloved little sister, whom she had always protected, was treated as a tool to make money.
Her once-respected father also treated her with indifference.
Ailsa felt like her world was collapsing, the despair in her heart making death seem alluring.
Immersed in her own world of despair and pain, Ailsa was oblivious to everything around her.
But then, she ran onto the road, unaware.
A deep red sports car was speeding down the road.
In an instant, a long screech of brakes froze the air.
Ailsa snapped back to reality, her tear-filled eyes widening in horror.
"Bang!" Ailsa's body was sent flying, landing several meters away, her pale face lying motionless on the ground. Blood, crimson from the back of her head, slowly spread out in all directions.
Her vision gradually blurred, and she faintly saw a slender figure approaching her.
Yet, she smiled in despair. This was fine too. There was nothing left in this world worth clinging to.
Ailsa slowly closed her eyes, tears streaming down her cheeks...
