Chapter Thirty-Five

212 Words
Serena’s brows rose in question. “Um, is everything okay?” Aiden met her eyes, his face hardening into a scowl. “Not sure. I received a report earlier that a strange wolf had breached our perimeter. Alaric and the team on duty are out checking right now. I’m awaiting a report.” “Is the wolf a threat?” He sighed and shook his head. “I suppose we’ll find out soon enough. For his or her sake, I hope they aren’t. They won’t like the consequences.” He ran a rough hand down his face, and when he looked at Serena, she understood why he was the alpha of the pack. She did not ever want to find herself on Aiden’s bad side. The look on his face did not auger well for whoever had trespassed on pack lands. “Do you want me to join the search party?” Serena asked. Aiden’s jaw clenched. “No. that’s not necessary. Alaric will deal with it and if the perpetrator does manage to escape, they better chalk it up to luck and never do it again.” “Okay. If you need me to do anything don’t hesitate to ask. I find I like it here and I would like to show my gratitude by being useful.” "I’ll keep that in mind and I’m happy you are settling in well.” “It’s all thanks to you for giving me this opportunity. Just know I’ll help any way I can,” Serena pledged. Aiden gave her a weary smile. “I appreciate that. We need all the help we can get.” He let out a deep breath and curled his lips into a bigger smile, although it didn’t reach his eyes. “Let’s put this aside for now. We’ve got a barbecue to get to.”
