About thirty minutes after Aiden left, there was a knock on Serena’s door. She wondered who it could possibly be as she hadn’t been introduced to that many pack mates as of yet. She walked over and tentatively opened it to find the man who’d let her into the mansion the previous day for her meeting with Aiden. Serena struggled to remember his name.
“Hi?” he greeted.
His smirk alluded to wicked thoughts as his light green eyes raked the length of Serena’s body.
Serena was in a grey tank top with black leggings and knew she was covered in sweat from the move. About half of her kinky curls had escaped the bun she’d put it in and she felt a little self-conscious at being seen like this and a lot self-conscious at the way he was looking at her.
If she read his expression correctly, he was picturing her as the little red riding hood and him the big bad wolf ready to lick her or something.
“Hey there. Serena, is it?”
“Um, yeah. Hi.”
His smile grew. “I just wanted to come over to say hi and welcome you to the pack.”
“Um. Okay. Thanks.”
“And if you’re not doing anything later, I’d be happy to take you out to dinner. I’m sure you’ll be tired from your move and won’t want to cook after such a long day. Besides, you’ll get the pleasure of my company,” he offered cockily.
“Oh. Um. Thanks, but I think I’ll just figure out something here later.”
“You sure? I’ve been told I’m pretty good company. If you don’t want to go out, maybe we can order in? I would love to get to know you better.”
Serena was pretty sure she was not interested in whatever he was offering. She struggled to find the right words to turn him down without causing offence she didn’t want to start on the wrong foot right off the bat – especially not on her first official day as a pack member.
“Oh. Um,” she said again, stalling for a good way to get out of the invitation. “That’s not necessary. There isn’t much to me. What you see is basically what you get. So there is no need to go through all that trouble. Besides I’m sure you have tons of better things to do and we’ll see each other around the pack especially since we’re both enforcers.”
“Oh, okay. If you’re sure. But if you change your mind you can find me at the mansion,” he said reluctantly.
“Yeah, of course.” With a glance to the side before returning to look at him, Serena pasted on her most sympathetic smile. “Thanks for the offer, Albert, but I’m going to have to pass today. Maybe some other time we can hang out.”
His smirk vanished. “It’s Alistair.”
“Right! Sorry, Alistair. Thanks again. I’ll see you around.”
With that, Serena waved him goodbye and closed the door behind her.
