After a while, Aiden stood to say his goodbyes, and Serena used the opportunity to ask him a favour.
She wasn't sure if he would grant her request but she had to at least try.
Shoring up her courage, she took a moment to gather her thoughts and arrange her words before she cleared her throat and forged ahead.
“Alpha,” she began. “I’m hoping you will grant me some leeway in telling the rest of the pack my wolf status. I feel it would be better if they got to know me a little before I drop this bombshell on them. From my previous experiences, only a few wolves do not care about my status. You are included in the few. So it may be more palatable for them if they get to see that I'm a nice person and not a threat to them before they learn I'm a turned wolf.”
Aiden frowned. “I know you don’t believe me, but no one in the pack will care about your wolf status. That isn’t how we were raised.”
“I hear you, but I’d feel more comfortable assimilating into the pack if I don’t have the fear of my wolf status looming over my head.”
“Okay, Serena. I don’t like keeping certain information from my pack. But I will grant your request. You have a few weeks to see what I’m saying is true, before we tell the pack your wolf status. While I know they would not mind, they should be made aware. It’s only right,” he conceded.
“Thank you alpha,” Serena said relieved. She'd been about eighty percent sure he would deny her request and the fact that he hadn't was a huge weight lifted off her shoulders.
"You’re welcome,” he said walking towards the front door. “Well, I’m glad you’re here and I’ll be seeing you the pack barbecue this Sunday.”
Serena wiped her sweaty palms down her jeans-clad legs and questioned “Pack barbecue?”
“Yes. We host them periodically as a chance to socialize and make special announcements. In this case, it will be a welcome party for you as our new packmate. There will be a mandatory meeting just before the barbecue to introduce you to the pack then we will celebrate.”
Serena hesitated before saying, “I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”
Aiden frowned. “Why not?”
Serena stood up straight and crossed her arms over her chest. “I haven’t had any exposure to such events, I’m not sure I’d know how to act” she ended lamely.
As much as she wanted to fit in, she was afraid of putting herself out there too quickly for fear of being rejected.
Aiden’s eyes softened as he glanced at her. “I told you, you won’t have issues here. As for not knowing how to act, all you need to do is be yourself.”
“Okay,” Serena said simply, deciding to trust her alpha’s judgment.
