Despite that, his mind couldn’t help wandering back to his introduction to Serena earlier. He had to admit, albeit to himself, that he was indeed intrigued by her. Her gorgeous brown eyes had gripped him in a vice he had found hard to escape. The second his eyes had met hers, he’d felt as if all of his oxygen had been cut off and the blood had stopped flowing to his extremities. Caleb felt as if he was suffocating as he fell deeper and deeper into her captivatingly warm gaze. His skin was tight. His wolf was on edge. He’d never felt that way in his life. He’d never had that kind of instant connection with another person. It was like his soul had recognized her on an instinctual level but his mind was trying was not trying to process that. It threw up bright red flags that he couldn’t ignore. He fought his instincts and his wolf, wrenching his eyes away from hers as he struggled to take his first real breath in what felt like forever. He wasn’t sure what had just happened, but he knew he couldn’t let it happen again. Something that powerful and all-encompassing had no place in his life.
