Chapter Twenty

212 Words
“Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to introduce you to our new packmate.” He turned to Serena. “Serena, this is my cousin, Caleb.” Even though Serena’s eyes hadn’t left him once, when his pale blue gaze met hers, she was completely unprepared. Everything came to a screeching halt as the whole world stopped spinning. She stopped breathing, her heart stopped beating. Then all of a sudden Serena’s heart began beating erratically. Her sweaty hands clenched into fists as her eyes widened slightly. Caleb’s eyes briefly flashed black. It was so quick, if Serena hadn’t been staring at him, she would have missed it. At that moment, she knew he was feeling the same thing she was. That something was happening between them. Serena didn’t know exactly what was happening or why, but she knew it was momentous. Fortunately, before her heart could beat out of her chest, Caleb broke eye contact. Serena took a deep breath like she’d spent hours oxygen-deprived. She crossed her hands over her chest, keen to keep anyone from noticing that her n*****s had hardened. She tried valiantly to keep from discreetly checking Caleb out. She didn’t need her body responding to her obvious attraction to him. After all, wolves had a keen sense of smell and the last thing she needed was for them to smell arousal on her. She’d never had to deal with anything like this in the past, so she was sure how to proceed. When Caleb finally spoke, it was like another shock to Serena’s system. His baritone was deep and sexy. It sent shivers down her spine. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.” His voice was mesmerizing, deep and gravelly – like it was rarely used. Serena imagined spending hours just listening to him speak. Serena was still silent a minute later, lost in thought until Aiden cleared his throat. “Nice to meet you too,” she choked out.
