I squeezed my eyes shut.
I could hear the girl's soft cries for her mother. I could see the burning carriage without even looking at it. This was because it was etched into my memory.
How could I have let something like this happen under my nose?
The worse part was that it happened on the palace grounds. It was not acceptable if I could not even protect my people.
I released my eyes and stared at the girl beside me. My eyes moistened just staring at her. She must have noticed that my eyes were on her, so she looked up at me.
"Alpha?" She cried.
I moved closer to her and raised my brows. "Yes, child?" I answered her call.
She sniffled occasionally as she was trying to hold back mucus. "Can you bring my mom back?" She asked as more tears flowed out of her eyes.
