CHAPTER FOURTEEN
The pup let out a happy bark and pranced around us. I snorted and looked down at him. “Does it make sense to you?” The dog plopped his butt down and wiggled his tail as he let out another bark. I snorted. “I wish I could understand you.” The puppy tilted his head to one side and blinked at me.
Duncan caught my eye and nodded at the remains of the fruit. “We should take that back to the house where it will be safe.”
I looked at the food with more than a little hunger, but a sigh escaped my lips. “I suppose you’re right. Can’t eat it all right now, can I?”
“No, but with this hope we may soon discover why you were able to eat it at all,” he consoled me as a smile touched his lips. “And then there will be nothing to stop you from remaining here.”
