Chapter 1: Homecoming
Rose
I was standing in my old apartment watching the movers load the last of the boxes into the moving van. Today was the day, after 12 years I would be returning to my old pack. I was the daughter of Alpha Williams and belong to lake mountain pack, one of the biggest packs in the northern hemisphere, but that was not all I was I was a true Alpha one in a long line of true Alphas. For years all our alphas were mated to only other alpha females, we had one of the strongest bloodlines in werewolf history. I was proud to call Lake Mountain my home.
“Are you ready to leave, Rose?” Iker asked as he stood in the door. “Yes, thank you for all your help.” I smiled at him. Iker was one of the pack's best warriors. He stood at least 7,2’ tall, he was muscular and when you looked at him you could see how strong he really is. He had deep blue eyes and black hair. He was caring and well trained. He even served in the Navy for a while but is now retired and my new guard. After hearing I would be returning to the back my father sent Iker to help me move and play bodyguard. I thought it was silly as for the last 12 years I only had myself to protect me, never had I had a body guard but my mother asked me to entertain the idea and not fight my father on it. As I was the only child, my parents were very protective of me, especially my dad, he still refuses to believe that a female alpha is just as strong as a male one. He is still from a generation that believes that female wolf was meant to be Luna’s and nothing else. As I moved to the door to lock my apartment for one last time all the memories of the years came rushing back and I couldn’t help but shed a tear. I made my way down to the ground floor where the landlord was already waiting. “We will surely miss you, Rose.” The old man told me. I gave him a weak smile and handed over the keys. Once I got outside of the building a took one deep breath before getting into the car. This will be my new chapter.
Making the long drive home gave me time to reflect over the last few years. I left the pack a month before my 18th birthday to start my studies. Since then, I have only been home twice. Most of the time my parents would come up to visit me as I had a very busy schedule. Not only was I studying and preparing for a career in law, but I was also making sure that I would be a worthy Alpha once I returned home. In between classes and study sessions, I would train. Most mornings I would get up by half-past 4 and would head out to the gym. Here I would meet Mason my personal trainer, a werebear himself. We would mostly work on endurance and strength. I would then head home have a quick shower and get ready for my day. After a long day of classes, I would meet up with one of my best friends, Stephan.
Stephan was the heir to the second largest pack in the northern hemisphere he was one of the strongest alphas wolves I knew. We met one morning in a coffee shop not far from my apartment. I accidentally bump into him and spilled my coffee all over his shirt. Instead of being a d**k about it as most Alphas in training I know, he was kind and tried to make the best of this situation. He went into the shop bathroom to try and save his shirt, but I know there was no way he would be able to, so I went to a men’s clothing store across the street and bought him a new shirt. He was grateful, he had even bought me a new cup of coffee. We exchanged numbers and the rest is history. He was also the only male wolf that would spare of with me without holding out. Because of his alpha blood, he was strong and at the beginning, I would really struggle to keep up. Even my werewolf healing wasn’t fast enough to heal all the bruises before the next day. I remembered the first few weeks after we started training together, the college counsellor called me in to ask me if I was in an abusive relationship. It was hard to explain to him the real reason I was banged up and full bruises, so I decided to go with the “I am training to become an MMA fighter” although I did not think he believed me as he would still check up on me for weeks to come. Luckily as I got better in the circle my bruises became less and he seemed to back off. Although my pack did not have any alliance with Stephan’s I knew that once we were both in power this would change. “Rose, I am stopping for coffee, would you like some?” Iker's voice brought me back to my current reality. “That would be great, thank you,” I said as he got out of the car, outside the rain was coming down hard.
Hunter
“Yes dad, I know dad, I will be leaving in the next hour” My dad was growing impatient with me, and with reason, it is the 25th time he phoned me in the last two days. I was to be the gamma of the Lake Mountain pack and have been putting it off for years. Every time convinced my father that I was not ready and that he still had time but after 12 years that excuse did not work anymore. I have recently retired from the military and my father was done with me making excuses for not assuming my birth right. At the age of 60, my father was not getting any younger and I understood his urgency to retire. I really dragged my feet with the packing and moving and after my mother left this morning with most of my stuff, my father was not very happy that I was still not on the road. I had one stop to make before I had to get on the road. As I entered the jewellery store a young woman came to the counter to help me. “Good morning, sir,” she said with a big smile on her face. “Good morning, I am here to pick up my order,” I said. “Oh yes, I will be right out with it” I waited a few minutes and when she came out, she was holding a small box. “I must say sir, however she is, she is one lucky girl.” She showed me the necklace and I smiled. It was a beautiful white gold necklace. It had a wolf howling at a bright red moon. The red moon was a ruby that was a family heirloom. “It came out great thank you, now let’s just hope she will accept it.” My heart was still wondering if she would. She was so special, and according to my mother, I loved her the moment I laid my eyes on her. Our love was not a fast and furious version but rather a growing one over the years. I turned 18 two years before she did. And that very morning when I drove her and my sister to school, I knew that she was my mate. I started counting of the days. Two days before her 18th birthday she come to me and told me that she will be leaving in the morning to go to college. I wanted to go with her, but she asked me not to follow her and to give her space to grow into her own. She never said it out loud, but I think she also knew we were mates. She left my room with tears in her eyes, and I felt like my heart was ripped out of my chest. Although it was not a rejection it sure felt that way. I always did as she asked, I never followed her and the two times she visited the pack I was luckily deployed overseas. Our mate bond was strong, after all, we both had pure alpha bloodlines. My wolf hated not knowing where she was and how she was doing. I constantly needed to remind him that this was what she wanted and she was not ready to be mates.
My father was not the original gamma of Lake Mountain. He was an alpha son from the Great Wilderness pack, one of the few packs that are in alliance with Lake Mountain. He was the youngest of 3 brothers of cause the eldest became the alpha of the pack and it was on his Alpha ceremony that my father met his mate my mother, she was the youngest daughter of Alpha Fredrick for the Long Moon pack. But that night his mate was not all he met. He met his first real friend Alpha Williams. They were close from the moment they met. They ended up going to the same college and becoming roommates. When Alpha Williams took over from his father there was no male heir for the current gamma and my father was asked to fill the position. And now it will be my position to fill. As I got onto my bike, I made sure that the necklace was safely packed away and secure. Tonight, I will see her again for the first time in 12 years. All that I can hope is that she is ready for me after all this time.
