CHAPTER:4

I joined the rest outside as I drank my coffee while they had whiskey. A message popped up on my phone. It said that I should be careful. I didn't pay much attention to it. We had a memorable night singing along, telling stories and laughing at the jokes shared. Everyone went to sleep since we were going to have a long day in the morning.

I helped in the kitchen and prepared breakfast. It felt odd to us. All the couples at that table could feed each other except for us three. Ten, Angela and me, but pretended we were not to be jealous. William kept eyeing but avoided his gaze. That day we didn't do what we had planned since it rained heavily. We stayed indoors watching movies. We lost power and the generator was not working. It was getting late and dark. We decided to use candles and the two lamps. The owner of the mansion decided to lend it to us. We had dinner very early that day. As we were eating, Meggy decided to ask me a question." Cate, are you dating?" she asked. "Yes, I am dating and might get married soon." I replied. One lamp was off. Only one lamp was on and a few candles that could light up the room. We decided to go and sleep.

The rains were heavy. Thunder roared accompanied by lighting. It was totally dark. I could not sleep. I tried waking up Angela but she was asleep. There was a knock on our door. I lit the candle and opened the door, only to find William standing at the door. He pushed me aside and got in. "What do you want?" I asked. He frowned and asked me to keep it low. "What if she finds you here, what will you tell her? I don't want drama," I said. "She is deep asleep. Would you mind telling me why you have been avoiding me? " He asked. I acted like I didn't know what he was talking about. "Am not avoiding you, I am just keeping my distance. You are a married man," he replied.

He didn't like how I replied to him. I got into bed and left him standing. I heard him leave the room after sometime. I felt guilty for treating him like that, but I had to protect myself from him. I had fought hard to forget about him and move on with my life.

We had to extend our stay since the roads were closed due to flooding.

William and Meggy kept arguing over stuff that didn't make sense. She was dramatic. She wanted to laeve and go catch her flight. She blamed William for bringing her here. William got pissed and went to stay upstairs alone. Everyone in the room was watching them argue, and I could tell William hated this kind of attention. Meggy didn't want to give in but had to the moment William left.

We were speechless. Everyone was in shock. "You are the cause of this. Why did you come back? Look at how he is treating me?" she said. She was referring to me. "You will pay for this,"she continued. Spencer never gave her another chance and asked her to act mature, and I was never the cause of the argument. I didn't utter a word to her.

Olive asked me to give a cup of tea to William. I knocked at the door only for him to open when I said I had brought him tea. He let me in and asked me to place it on the table." You should drink it when it is still hot. It will help you cool down. Am sorry for what has happened," I said. As I was leaving the room, he held my hand and asked me to stay. I didn't resist. I sat there and watched him get his tea. He had not changed. His facial features remained the same. No emotion on his face." Sorry for everything, can we meet up after this and I know there is no way I can make up for what I did," he asked. "I don't think that is a good idea, since she already thinks I was the cause of your misunderstanding." I replied.

He seemed to be in deep thoughts before nodding his head. He kept on insisting till I had to agree to meet him. The next moment I knew he was embracing me in a warm hug. I didn't embrace him back.

I left the room and joined the rest in the living room. Meggy gave me piercing eyes but didn't care. I could tell she was pissed with me. The old man who was hosting us came to tell us that the roads were open and that we could leave. We didn't hesitate. We left after thanking him.
