Chapter 4
Alpha Darius’ POV
Watching the girl talk with Michael kind of made me feel like she was supposed to be here. I know getting my hopes up and hoping the Moon Goddess sent my mate back to me is something I want more than anything, but what if this is a trap?
“Who is she?” I asked Doctor Michael.
“I don’t know, but clearly she isnt a wolf yet, she has a familiar smell, but I cannot place it,” he sighed at me. When Doctor Michael is unsure about things, it gets me worried. “I mean it's not someone bad, I don’t think.”
“Yeah well we need to figure out who she is and what she was doing with Damien because I don't trust him either, he left his post and prisoners before we got to his pack house, which makes me wonder if he is planning an attack. Something we have to be ready for.” I said, touching my forehead. “I am not ready to have to kill more rogues, as the last one six months ago when I lost it. “I don’t want to lose more people, it's bad enough we lost my mate.”
“I know,” he sighed. “But I don’t think he planned on leaving her behind, I think she was his ransom to get you to do what he wanted.”
“Well, it doesn’t make sense, I want to make sure we have extra guards around the pack lands, and we need to figure out more about the girl, I don’t trust her,” I said, looking back at the girl. “Did she tell you anything about what happened or why she was being tortured?”
“Well,” he sighed. “She’s been mumbling something I haven't heard in five years.”
“What, what is it?” I snapped, annoyed that he was trying to defend her.
“Well,” he said, closing his eyes. “She calls out to you.”
“What!” I growled.
“She calls out your pet name, Luna Anna used to call you, ‘TeddyWolf.”
“What, impossible, no one outside this pack knows that name, and as far as you know, she doesn’t have her wolf,” I growled. I wanted to go into the room and demand how she knew the pet name, but she isnt awake, so it could be luck or something.
“Well, I have a feeling she is connected, I don’t know how yet, but I know it's going to make sense once she wakes up and sees she is safe,” he said, looking back into the room. “I know you want answers, but I don’t know if we’re going to get them right now. She said something about an accident a year ago, so it kind of got me thinking,” he sighed. “But I don’t want to bore you with any of that right now, but if I am right, she belongs here.”
“Well I am keeping guards here either way, either Damien told her my pet name because I know he has knowledge of it or she does have some kind of connection to my dead mate,” I said walking away from him, I didn’t want him to see this was bothering me more than it should.
I wanted more answers, but there is no way she is going to tell them to me. I know I am going to have to be nice until we know who and what she is. If she is connected to my pack, then I will protect her, but if she turns against us, I will kill her. I am still this unstable wolf, and my wolf hasn't been right since we lost Anna.
“Wolf.” I linked to my wolf.
“What?” he snapped. I could tell he is annoyed, and it's someone I want to deal with right now, but I need to know what he thinks about this.
“What do you get from all of this? Is she an impostor?” I asked.
“I don’t know, you have to get closer to her, I have to touch her,” he sighed. “But I have a feeling she is connected. I haven't felt needed by anyone until you touched her. She is ours, but you are going to have to convince her of that,” he sighed. “If Doctor Michael is right and she hasn't shifted, then she is going to have a harder time this time around; she might even reject us.”
I didn’t want to hear that, I don’t know what we would do if she didn’t want to be with us. I don’t even know how I am going to convince her about wolves. I could tell she was scared. Maybe she doesn’t know about us, and this is going to be worse than trying to convince her that I will love her in time.
“You are going to have a lot of work ahead of you,” he sighed. “As much as I want just to go in there and mark her, I have a feeling it's not going to be easy.”
“I know.” I sighed. I wanted to convince her and show her all about us, but first, she needs to accept that she is going to be a wolf. I want to know more about this accident, If she gets hurt and doesn’t trust anyone because of that, then I want to show her she can trust me. She has to trust me in the end.
I don’t want her running from us, and I am going to constantly be worried about her if she doesn’t want to stay on the pack lands. I know we can protect her, but we have to be careful because of the humans and all of their rules.
“Well, the first thing we should do is welcome her here, otherwise, she is going to run away from us and we’re not going to know what happened until it's too late,” he said sadly. “I know you want to demand answers from her, but maybe you should take this slow with her.”
“Fine.” I sighed. “I just don’t want to put the pack in any more danger. Since Anna died, we haven't been the same. I am sure the other packs think we’re insane, and that's why they just give us what we want. I know we’re going to have to be better.”
He’s right, there isn't anything more that I want other than having my pack the way it used to be. I want Anna back, but if she doesn't come back, I know I am going to have to give the girl a chance. I am sure she isn't going to like what we tell her about us, but she is going to have to accept it since she is part of this pack now.
“How are you going to convince her to stay?” he asked.
“I don’t know.” I sighed. I don’t even know if she is going to listen to us and believe us when we tell her she is going to have a wolf soon and it's going to be an adjustment. “How do you tell a woman that she is your mate, and she is going to have a wolf?”
“I don’t know, but you better think of something, otherwise she is going back to the human world and is going to be killed. You know they don’t like us, and well we don’t like them either, but we have to deal with them.”
I don’t know what is going to happen, I know I am going to have to get her to tell me about this accident, and then tell me how she ended up a prisoner. I hope he didn’t do anything bad to her otherwise she isn't going to trust anyone.
I wanted to keep talking about this, but I need to play what we’re going to do if the Rogue King wants to come back and do something. It's something that I still think about, and how the Rogue King managed to take my mate and some of my warriors on that night.
My jaw clenches. I know I have to figure out how to get close enough to him so he can see my power. But with Anna dying, I lost that, I lost every fighting bone I had in me. I wish I didn’t have to think about what happened and why she was killed, it's my fault. I don’t know if I want another chance, I don’t know if I can stand losing her to him all over again.
“So?” Daniel said, coming towards me.
“I don’t know, she hasn't said much.” I sighed. “Michael thinks she belongs here, and my wolf is going crazy.”
“So is she your mate?” he laughed. “I mean it's not funny, but you are acting all weird, Michael says something, and your wolf. He doesn’t just go crazy because he wants to, that's all you.”
“Stop,” I said, rolling my eyes. “I don’t know what to think, part of me wants to wake her up and demand things, and another part wants me to take it slow.”
“Alpha, she is awake and asking for you.” Michael linked.
“Come,” I said, closing my eyes. I wanted him to be here with me in case I messed things up. I don’t want to scare her, but we need to know more about her and her encounter with the Rogue King. If he knows her, then there are some concerns for her safety as well.
