Tonight was the night. The night I would be turning 18 with my best friend and finding my mate. I was hoping to the Goddess above that Mason was my mate. I have had a crush on him forever and it’s not what everyone thinks. No, it was not his looks. It was his personality that I loved the most. He was so kind, caring, gentle, easy to talk to, and always there when he was needed. I was lucky enough to grow up with him. I was happy I got to know him for him. As we got older and our appearances changed, it was a bonus. No longer was the adorable little boy who always stood up for Mack and me. In his place was an amazingly strong and good-looking man. Since he got his wolf, he has become taller, much taller. His hair grew out more and his blue eyes somehow got bluer. Over the years, he added some ink to his skin and that made him look even better. Being a Gamma’s daughter, I was praying the moon goddess would grant me the only wish I had. I wanted Mason to be my mate. I was brought from my thoughts when Mack called over to me.
“Now who is going to make us late?” She laughed as she held a curling wand in her hand. I must have spaced out thinking about Mason, again.
“Sorry?” I innocently shrugged as I walked over and sat in the now empty chair.
“Mhm.” She hummed as she stood behind me and started to curl my long raven-colored hair. “Think about him again?” I looked in the mirror to see a grin on her face.
“No.” I lied, biting the inside of my cheek.
“I hope he is too.”
“He is what?” I asked, confused.
“You’re mate.” she said casually. How can she be so casual about this? She never liked any girl her brother ever dated. I mean, they were all airheads to begin with. I was just hoping I was his type. Doubt started to gnaw at me.
“Will you stop? Mate will love us.” My wolf Raven added her two-sense.
I shook my head as I focused back on Mack. “Really?”
“Of course.” She smiled. “We are best friends, and I couldn’t picture anyone else being my actual sister than you.”
Her words made me smile. It meant a lot knowing she would be happy. She knew about my crush on Mason and would playfully tease me all the time about it. I have a feeling that is why she never liked the other girls. She wanted me to be with him and not them.
“And, done.” She declared as she unplugged the wand and placed it to the side to cool. I looked at myself in the mirror and fell in love with the loose curls she did.
We added a few more finishing touches before we headed out of her room and down to our party. She and I were born on the same day, just a few hours apart. The closer we got to the doors, the more Raven started prancing in my head.
“He is here! Mate is here!” She howled in my head, giving me a headache.
“Calm down so we can find him.” I scolded her before scanning the crowd.
As I was scanning the crowd, I saw Mason walking over to us. Hope blossomed in my chest at the hope he was who Raven was smelling. I knew he would not approve of our outfits, so I thought he was coming to lecture us. As soon as he got close, I got a whiff of his scent. He smelled like a cozy cabin and home. The smell was very addicting and I was trying my best not to drool.
“Mate.” I whispered as soon as he was in front of us. My eyes widened in horror as I just said that. What shocked me was what I heard next. I was expecting him to laugh, but instead I got the shock of my life.
“Mate.” I heard him say back in a husky voice. We looked into each other’s eyes for a moment before Raven took over and I ran straight to him.
He surprised me by lifting me up and crushing his lips to mine. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my arms around his neck as he swiped his tongue over my bottom lip. I opened my mouth, giving him access as he explored my mouth. Our tongues fought for dominance, his instantly winning. I felt him moving and only opened my eyes when I felt the cool brick of the pack house against my bare back. I threaded my fingers in his hair as our kiss picked up and we were both panting for air. He moved away from my lips, kissing my cheek while moving down my neck.
“I’m so glad it’s you.” He mumbled against my skin. The feeling of his lips on my skin and the tingling sparks from the bond had my mind in overdrive.
“What?” I whispered in shock. Did he want me to be his mate? I was nothing like the girls he dated in the past. I was far from it. I was only 5’6 with long raven colored hair and brown eyes. My chest was a good size at a size D cup, but he always went for blondes.
“f**k El.” He grunted as he pulled away from my neck. He looked back at me with black eyes. I was confused until he rubbed himself against me and I felt his erection. “You need to reel it in or I’ll f**k you right here.” He growled in my ear as he bit my ear lobe. I shivered at his action and did my best to control my arousal.
“Mas.” I giggled as I turned a scarlet color. He was always so lewd, one of the things I liked about him.
“I’m serious. Ever since Koa came to me, you’re all I have been able to think about.”
“You’ve known all these months and made me wait?” I shrieked. He knew I was his mate for months and never said anything. Oh, he was going to pay for that one.
“I wanted to make sure Koa and I were correct before saying anything.” He moved back to look me in the eyes. All I saw in his eyes was love and devotion. I didn’t think I could fall for him more than I already had, but I did.
“You know you’re going to pay for that, right?” I smirked as I rested my forehead against his.
“Looking forward to it.” He smirked back before pressing his lips against mine again. Before things could heat up, he stopped.
“We need to go.” He sounded a bit tense.
“Everything alright?” I asked as he moved me from the wall and set me on my feet. My legs were a bit wobbly from our passionate make-out session.
“I hope so.” He muttered as he took my hand. We headed back out to the crowd of people and made our way through them. He kept my hand in his as we walked. I didn’t miss all the stares from the other she-wolves as we walked by. Everyone wanted to be his mate. Too bad bitches. I’m his mate and if you ever think of touching him, all hell will rain down on you. Just as we broke through the other end of the crowd, I felt the aura in the air. I looked up to see Nick and Beck having a stare down with each other. I knew it only meant one thing. It had to do with Mack.
