Defending Langara

Jack O'Neill was being briefed on the status of the Lucian Alliance when a new alert came up that a fleet of Ha'taq had been detected on a course towards Langara. It would take them 4 days to arrive there with 36 ships. Jack knew that with his 4 ships it would be a hard task, so he began working on a plan as he ordered Langara be contacted to come to Earth to discuss increasing their defensive abilities. He knew they were going to have to deploy extensive ground based systems in order to repel this attack when he got the idea to contact Teal'c and the Free Jaffa Nation.

He also had a message sent to him before he had the Hammond beam him to Stargate Command where he could begin the planning and arranging the troops he would need to deploy the weapon systems to protect their new supply line.

3 hours later Jonas and Ovirda arrived minutes before Teal'c did, all 3 of them intrigued as they entered the conference room where Jack had just finished ordering the 3 ships he would be dispatching with the weapons that Langara would need.

"Jack, a pleasure to be here as always." Teal'c said in his usual manner.

"General, what is going on?" Jonas asked as they all sat.

"Jonas, Ambassador, I am activating provision 4 of the mutual defense pact. We need to deploy defensive systems on the planet surface as well as engaging a fleet in orbit. Teal'c, I am really hoping that the Jaffa Nation will assist us in defending Langara from the Lucian Alliance. We have detected 36 Ha'taq en route and only have 4 ships available within the timeframe." Jack said advising them of the situation.

"That is a sizable part of their forces, we would be able to cripple them if we could destroy them." Teal'c said as Jack nodded.

"We believe they have 65 total, so it would drastically reduce their military forces if we can. The concern however is if they take the planet, they will destroy it in an attempt to dial Destiny using the previous method." Jack said.

"What do you intend to deploy?" Ovirda asked.

"We have planetary based rail guns that can be used for orbital defense. It is the only system we will have time to deploy." Jack told them before they launched into the discussions of what the plan was going to be.

4 days later Jack stood inside the bunker where they had relocated the Stargate to on Langara, all 4 of the ships in orbit on high alert waiting for the Lucian Alliance ships to exit hyperspace. They knew it was only a matter of time, the Jaffa Nation having not told them one way or another. Jack saw the first blip on the screen just as the radio came alive.

"Sir, 3 ships on radar." Colonel Carter announced. "Lucian Alliance ships, you have entered orbit of a planet protected by the Tau'ri. Come about and depart immediately or you will be considered hostile and we will use appropriate force." she said over the comms.

"They have raised shield, detecting 6 more hyperspace windows." her sensors officer said from her station. "They are charging weapons and launching fighters."

"Fire at will, deploy the 302's." Carter ordered before Jack turned the radio down knowing that shortly they would have their hands full on the surface as well as more and more of their ships arrived.

Just as Jack was beginning to worry he saw dozens more ships appear cutting off any of the escape routes, all of the 60 Jaffa Ha'taq ships opening fire on the Lucian Alliance ones as soon as they reverted to real space. He however knew that with all the ships the Lucian Alliance was launching, they had planned an extensive planetary assault. "Order all stations to alert, we have incoming."

"All ships focus rail guns on the troop transports and death gliders. General, we count atleast 100 bombers and 30 troop carriers headed your way." Carter said over the radio.

"We see them Colonel, you focus on the Ha'taq. We will give them a surprise." Jack said as the few SAM sites they had managed to install at critical sites came online while the planetary rail guns opened fire using their radar systems to track the incoming vessels from orbit.

Before they could even break through the atmosphere, 500 more 302 fighters took off from bases all over the planet, all of them with the same orders to protect their planet from the invading ships. Along with the rail guns defending sensitive areas, the enemy would find it extremely difficult to punch through.

"You heard the General, max power to shields. Everything else I want going to the Asgard Beams, lock onto the nearest Ha'taq and fire at will. Come to course 017.016 relative." Sam ordered as her people carried out her orders easily.

The beam slammed into the Ha'taq shields that had been upgraded for a moment before the Phoenix fires again and punched straight through it and lighting up the shields of another one as their target began experiencing secondary explosions that were sending debris hurtling at the other ships, draining their shields to prevent damage.

"Target the next one, lock on missiles and target rail guns on anything we can potentially damage." Sam ordered as she looked at the battlefield that was rapidly changing because of the overwhelming Jaffa attack against the Lucian Alliance ships.

Within minutes there were few Lucian Alliance ships left intact, those that weren't destroyed were adrift with most if not all of their systems damaged or destroyed. As quick as they had appeared, 59 of the Jaffa ships launched into hyperspace while the one staying behind hailed Carter.

"Teal'c, what was that?" she asked.

"Apologies Colonel, but the Free Jaffa Nation is undertaking a last strike against the Lucian Alliance. Before they can regroup from the loss of these ships, we intend to cripple all of their bases of power with overwhelming force. You are welcome to join us." Teal'c said as she nodded.

"Send the Sun Tzu and the Hammond, let it be known that the Tau'ri stood with the Jaffa on this day of victory as well." Jack said as the planetary defenses still dealt with the last of the bombers and troops carriers.

Six hours later Jack sat in the suite where the leaders of the 3 former nations of Langara met, Jonas sitting at the head of them all as the clearly elected leader. All of them were nervous as they sat there with Jack, all of them full of questions as Carter and the Phoenix cleared the 4 Ha'taq that had been damaged but not destroyed.

"What is going to happen with the ships in orbit that attacked us?" Ovirda demanded. "They are in our orbit, we should have the right to salvage them."

Jack smiled. "Are you asking for our help or staking a claim to them?" he asked amused. "We of course have no use for them, but it would be a lot of teaching and training for your people to actually be able to utilize one of those, let alone be able to maintain or repair it."

Jonas held up his hand. "We are requesting your assistance to assist us in obtaining and learning how to properly utilize the four Ha'taq vessels that are now adrift in our orbit. In return, when we are able we will assist in not only our own defense but the defense of the Tau'ri as well."

Jack looked at Ovirda before turning to Jonas. " The education necessary to maintain and repair a Ha'taq vessel is extensive and would require several years of on hand training with the very vessels that you will one day command. Is Langara prepared to commit to a long term Alliance with Earth to make this worth the expense and effort?" he asked as Jonas nodded.

"We are, it is apparent now that without us working together towards mutually beneficial objectives, there can be no cooperation between us because of the animosity some in my government still feel." Jonas said looking at Ovirda directly before he turned back to Jack. "So, we will do what you ask and entrust our progress to you. We however will not stop pushing to advance, as we do not have the desire to use technology in ways we are not yet prepared for."

Jack nodded as he looked at Jonas. "Good, because now that the immediate need has passed, those men who were given a crash course as pilots will now need to go to Earth for 6 weeks of proper training to become even better pilots. The knowledge and skills to maintain the 302s will be a good stepping stone before the Ha'taq, which we will have our teams here educating your people on."
