Repairs

1104 Words
Eli and Vici spent every other day going back and forth to Langara to work on the power generation issues there before returning to Destiny to repair the systems the team could access including the weapons and shield emitters. When the system finally showed Engineering was sealed, they began using the air from the unoccupied areas they had already repaired and transferring it to Engineering. When they were finally able to equalize the pressure for the areas they still needed to access, it was only 80 percent of normal. The damage they saw once they entered was extensive, leaving almost none of the modules undamaged. All four of them were astonished by what they were seeing. "We have 6 weeks to repair what we can before we need to recharge. Idan, work on the plasma storage. Vigo, shield generators. Eli and I will begin the work on the FTL drives." Vici said as they all nodded and got to work assessing the damage. The diagnostic showed that only 12 of the modules were still online, efficiency having dropped to just 22 percent. 3 of the modules had so much damage that they would have to be totally rebuilt. All of the others would need extreme maintenance and repairs to critical systems. By the end of the day they had torn the first damaged one completely apart, Eli getting an excellent idea of how they actually worked now. Especially since Vici was giving him a lesson on them now that he could speak Alterran well enough to have a conversation. She was also learning English, amazed that the words still held roots to the original languages of atleast 6 of the Alterran Clans. Now that they were in this phase, he was glad the daily changes would stop and he could focus on one issue. The second day they repaired the damaged sections of the drive and made the adjustments they needed to upgrade it to Hyperspace capability. Working together the work went quickly, they however knew that after this one they would be working on them separately. Just because they needed the time to install the replacement module for the missing module they had removed when it failed. "The work your people did remotely is amazingly detailed considering you had no idea how to actually do the work." Vici said in Alterran as she always did while they were working. "We were waiting for an impending attack. It took us nearly 4 weeks to do all that using the one robot we had found at the time." Eli replied also in Alterran as they had agreed for their lessons. Each evening when they were relaxing was when they spoke only English. "That makes it even more impressive, especially since you didn't have control of core systems." she said as they finished the rebuild of the module and began the diagnostic. "We are curious and resourceful when we need to be." Eli replied as it finished the tests and showed it was fully functional and at 94 percent of expected efficiency according to the specs in the database. "Excellent, now we have 14 more of them to do in 6 weeks. Tomorrow we each tear the other two that need rebuilt apart and see what we need to do." Vici said as Eli looked at her. "Let's get started, we still have a few hours today." he said making her smile as they grabbed the tools they needed to disassemble the FTL modules. When they returned to the room they were sleeping in with the plants and other two, both of them were sitting there waiting with dinner already made and waiting for them. "Repairs to the generators are progressing well, but 3 of them need totally rebuilt. All of the tanks are filled with residual buildup that is restricting the amount held. System is about 30 percent of original capacity. The good news is that according to the scans the buildup is rare minerals that we need to make the parts we need for the weapons and shields." he told her. "How long to clean them out?" she asked. "4 weeks, the buildup is extensive and difficult to remove. In fact it won't be completely finished until we recharge and can flash the system." Idan told her between bites. "Shields?" she asked. "Half of the modules are off-line, repairs to those will take 3 weeks. Maintenance of the rest is going to take an additional 2.5 weeks." Vigo told her. "FTL modules are extensively damaged. Two modules will take a week to rebuild, a week to install the backup and 4 weeks to repair and upgrade the other 12. It seems all of us will be pushing close to the deadline." she said as the 3 men nodded. "Eli, how long before we need to run life support again?" she asked as he realized it had already been a week since he did it last time. He grabbed the tablet and looked at the air sensors, the CO2 levels only at 2 percent which although higher than normal wasn't dangerous by any means. "I think with moving all the air around and the plants they are now scrubbing it enough. CO2 at 2 percent and has been holding for 3 days." he said reviewing the logs as she nodded knowing the plants would only become more effective. "Vigo, how are the insertion calculations coming along?" Vici asked him as he had been working on them for two weeks. "It is going to be a rough ride once we drop out. We will have to execute an insanely sharp turn as soon as we revert in order to achieve an insertion orbit that leaves us within the influence of the star." he said showing them the simulation that showed an 80 percent odds of success with his current plan. "Eli, do you have any data on these drones?" Idan asked. "Lots actually." he said pulling up the data making Idan smile. "I think I have an idea, if these details are accurate we should be able to commandeer the drones and use them ourselves." Idan said as he began working on a program right there. "We have been able to control them after we have destroyed their command ship. You think we can control them without destroying it?" Eli asked. "The authentication protocols might pose a small problem initially, but yes. We should be able to broadcast a stronger signal that brings them under our command as if we were the Command Ship that deployed them." he said with a smile as he kept working.
