Chapter 52

“Are you sure that you are ok?” Sarah asked Dai as they all moved back to Dai’s lodge, the power was back on now, but then the machine might have been damaged from that surge, who knew such a thing would happen, she wondered how her husband felt about the damage to the technology he had spent most of his life on, plus the fact that the attempt had actually failed to work as expected, but then she knew he always loved a challenge and would only see this as another challenge for him.

“I really am fine, like I said, I didn’t know what was going on, I only felt this longing to go to my family, well, the rest of them that is” Dai said to the couple, what she didn’t actually add was the vague weird vision, it felt like there she was having an out of body experience and there were these two people there as well but she didn’t know them because all she felt was their presence, she didn’t really see their faces so she didn’t think to tell them since it was irrelevant.

“Could you tell us about your family?” Sarah asked and was immediately pinched by Charlie you whispered to her that the topic was a sensitive one and so she shouldn’t ask, Dai caught the back and forth between them so she just chuckled especially when she saw the face that Sarah was making to her husband, sometimes these two are like kids, but she agreed to tell them what she could about her family though and that made Sarah happy and she made more faces at her husband who chuckled at her naughtiness.

Dai started by telling them a bit about her childhood, when it was just her and Dante, without the WIC at the time, how they had converted the streets to become theirs and had ruled it justly even while very young, and then she got to the part where the messed with the WIC, not knowing how powerful they are at the time, and how the WIC took them in after discovering they had an abundance of the elder gene, and from there their journey as a dragon began, she made it known to them that they had the streets in mind when they accepted to join the WIC, they did it so they would be able to protect their streets especially from even the WIC themselves, but after joining, they discovered that it wasn’t just the streets that needed to be protected from the WIC, it was in fact the whole world.

Dai gave them a bit more info on Dante and how she actually cherished her brother more than any other person, he had saved her after all, countless times from when they were young till when they joined the ranks in the WIC, he has always been there to save her, he also made it possible for her to run and stay hidden from the WIC when she found out she was indeed pregnant.

She told the couple about the six special kids that she and her brother had saved from the WIC and how she had decided to adopt them as her own kids, it made everything better for them to find someone to call mother, since she and her brother had searched as best as they could for their actual relatives all to no avail.

Dai mentioned the kids name one after the other and told the couple of the traits that each of them had, she spoke of Letty lastly, and with a bit of a tone of regret, she informed them that she actually regretted how she brought her up, a bit separate from the rest because she showed more affinity to the dragon and it’s abilities than the other kids, she also seemed sharper and a tad bit more into battle, its strategies and the act itself, so upon seeing that, she drilled her more than the others, trained her to really use her gifts and as well sent her on secret missions to do what she was made to do and did best, assassination.

Thinking back on it now, Dai felt she shouldn’t have done that to her and rather she should have just given her a normal childhood, but then, those she had taken out had to have been taken out, else the WIC would have actually been a lot more terrible when it came to holding power in the world, Letty had taken out a lot of their agents which they had fixed in different part of the world for different reasons, some politicians, some aristocrats, some monarchs, but all needed to be eliminated for the sake of the future of the world, because there seemed to be no one else that is able to stand and fight for the world as it is right now.

Dai wanted to avoid talking about Adrian but she eventually decided to talk about him too, her hot headed goofy little boy, who had so much anger pent up inside of him, who had so much resentment towards the WIC and what they had done and what they were still doing such that he decided to take them on all by himself since there was no one else to help out, she had tried to stop him though but he wouldn’t have any of it, he went and fought alone, and he lost, she hadn’t seen her poor baby boy since then, only God knows what they would have done to him already, at this point, Dai started to shed tears, she wept and Sarah came to sit beside her and console her by hugging her and patting her back.

“My last mission had been to get my brother’s daughter safely away from the WIC as well” Dai continued when she got a hold of herself, “But before I got to her, they have already gotten to her, O tried to tail them for a bit, hoping to get a chance to speak to her alone, but I was discovered and that injury I came here with, well, she did that to me” Dai said and unconsciously touched her scars.

“Your niece did that to you?” Sarah asked in a shocked manner mainly because of two things, first she had thought there had to have been three people fighting against Dai to have given her such deathly injuries and the second was that she was picturing a little girl when Dai mentioned that her niece gave her those injuries.

“Well yeah she did, on command though, and I’m pretty sure she has no idea who I am to her, I saw a last look of shock on her face after her first attack revealed my face, she sensed recognition and familiarity, that stopped her from delivering the final death blow because I saw that she was poised to do that, and that gave me the chance to escape, under different circumstances, I would have been really proud of her for the attack, she really got me good” Dai said and chuckled, Sarah thought that was weird.

“Well, I’ll leave you ladies to it, I have to go and work on MAGE now” Charlie said and left to work on his life’s work, he now realizes that he has to do a few upgrades to it, right now, it would work for any human, but not for something or someone that isn’t human, like Dai and that was why it reacted that way, a few days should do it, yes, a few days would be enough to make it so that it would work even on a dragon.

“MAGE?” Dai asked after Charlie had left, the man was a really hard worker she noticed.

“Oh yes, Mind Aiding Generant Edifice, the name of the technology, I told him the name was goofy, but he insisted on calling it that because of the magical relation of the acronym” Sarah said and made that face she makes to get her husband riled up again and Dai couldn’t help laughing at that.

“Let me get out of your hair, or scales, so you can rest as well” Sarah said jokingly, “Although I’m sure that once I leave, you’ll get back right up there amongst the ceiling beams and start to workout, so let me tell you this, sometimes, going slow is much more effective than going hard, just relax, maybe it’ll all come back to you of its own accord” Sarah said wise and hugged Dai.

After she left, Dai glanced up at the poles and beams in the ceiling, but then decided to listen to her doctor and newfound friend, so laid down on her back and slept, immediately she was taken over by dreams, all that which was her memory came back to her in form of a dream, everything she had said to the couple replayed itself in her mind, but it continued to the present, to when she was having the steak lunch with the couple.

“Auntie! Auntie!!” someone called to her from seemingly far away, but she didn’t pay attention to the voice, rather she kept living through her dream memories, especially those of her brother Dante, her son Adrian and her adopted children.

“Auntie Dai! Auntie!!” the voice came again, ever still so persistent, she looked back and saw a vague figure trying to move towards her, but there was an ocean of blackness between them, an abyss of darkness, this made the effort futile, but gradually, Dai started to recognize the figured, it was herself when she was cloaked and tailing her niece, only that this time it was her niece that was in the cloak, trailing her.

Dai look down at her hands and saw throwing knives, the exact ones that her niece had used against her, the situation had been reversed and now she was in her niece’ shoes while her niece was in hers, naturally as it had happened Dai started to poise herself for the throwing attack, she watched herself take a stance and set her aim, she tried to tell herself to stop, but it was of no use, there was no stopping this cruel act of fate, and just like it had happened in reality, she threw the knives in perfect angled succession so it could hit the proposed vitals, after she threw it though, she realized that her niece had purposely missed her vital organs, because as she threw right now as well, she made to slightly miss the vital organs, but still the aim was true and the knives struck home, hitting her niece as it had hit her in reality, her niece fell down in the same way she had fallen, on her knees with her hood pulled back and her face exposed, and just like the late recognition had happened to her niece she also recognized her a bit too late as the dream started to dissolve.

Ryoka woke up with a start and was panting really hard, Letty rushed up as well and started calming her, telling her to relax and it was all a dream, but she knew that, and she knew as well that it wasn’t any ordinary dream, it was one instigated by draugh fuh.

“I know where she is..” Ryoka said still panting, she subconsciously touched where the knives had met her in the dream although it had no effect on her in real life, it still felt real, thanks to draugh fuh “ Aunt Dai, your mother, I know where she is now” Ryoka stated and Letty’s eyes grew wide in surprise.
