Chapter 3: Mate

1199 Words
The kitchen was spotless. I made sure that I would clean everything before I head upstairs. I didn't want Aunt Hillary to scold me once she gets home to a messy house. I was at the receiving and was putting everything into their proper places when I saw Uncle Meson’s eyeglass at the coffee table. He must have forgotten it due to his eagerness to go. I took it and thought of something. I know how much Uncle Meson hates it when he doesn’t have his glasses on as he has blurry vision, especially at night. Should I go and give it to him? Oh no, Aunt Hillary will get mad at me for showing up there. But… what about Uncle Meson? He needs it. I guess it won’t harm me if I take it over without them seeing me. I can just give it to one of the pack members and ask them to hand it to Uncle. Yes, that could work. I don’t think Aunt Hillary would get mad if I did that. I’m just thinking about her husband. I didn’t have time to shower so I just decided to change into comfortable clothes since I am not going to the main venue, which will be at the pack’s conference hall. I’ll just be outside and give it to someone I know I can trust. I chose to wear a simple white tee paired with black trousers and flat sandals. Even if I won’t be inside, I still have to look presentable just in case I bump into some pack members. I didn’t want people to think that I was being maltreated by Uncle Meson’s family, even if that was the real case. Their family is respected in our pack because Uncle Meson is the head of the security and the one who supervises the training for the pack soldiers along with all the other active pack soldiers. My straight hair was falling freely on my back with its curled ends because I put it in a messy bun earlier while cleaning. I just combed it with my hand and let it be. I applied some powder to my face and lined my lips a bit just so I wouldn’t look pale. I sprayed some perfume on me and I was good to go. I didn't know why I bothered that much but there was just something telling me that I have to look pretty amazing. I took Uncle Meson’s eyeglasses, which were in its case, and headed out. The conference hall was located at the heart of the pack's territory and it was just a few minutes of walk from our house. The pack houses are close to each other with the members interacting more on a daily basis. I started walking as I hummed to my favorite song. Now that I think about it, should I take a look at the nearby pack’s alpha? Or should I just let it go? I sighed. Aye, just stay out of trouble and turn your back while you can. Who cares about the other pack's alpha, right? What would I get from that? Well, I know just the answer; trouble. I sighed. I'll just make sure that this would get to Uncle Meson and nothing more. I reached the conference hall in no time and I saw how the people were walking and greeting around inside that huge room but the glass walls were a bit tinted. I couldn’t see well thoroughly what was there but I could see a little and the movements. It must be nice to be able to attend such things even for once. I mean, I watch as they walk around in their beautiful dresses and suits which made me feel like they were in a fairytale. I wonder where that alpha is. What is wrong with me? Why do I keep on thinking about that alpha and what he would look like? It's not like I can fantasize about being his mate just like my cousins. I waited for someone to come out and when I saw a pack member that had come out with a tray of empty wine glasses in his hands, I called him out. He is a member of our pack. I told him what I was there for and he nodded. “Why don’t you give it to him yourself? Everyone is allowed inside.” He smiled. “No!” I said a bit aggressively, which surprised him. “Uhm, I mean, I just… I’m not really dressed at my best because I wasn’t planning to stay longer. Can… can you please do it?” He looked at me from head to toe and nodded. “Sure,” He said, and I smiled. I really didn’t want Aunt Hillary and my cousins to see me or else I would be doomed. “But… can you do me a favor as well?” He asked. “Of course, what is it?” I nodded vigorously. I knew that I would do whatever he asked me to. “These glasses are urgently needed backstage in the conference room. Can you bring it there? They need it for the wine toast in a few. Just give it to someone in there.” He looked worried about it and I knew that he would be in trouble if those glasses didn’t make it there on time. I nodded. “Sure,” I agreed and took the tray of wine glasses from him. It's the least I could do for him and besides, I didn't want him to get into trouble just because I asked a favor. He started walking towards the main entrance of the ball's venue and I headed to the back door. As soon as I opened the door, a woman that I remembered as this pack’s omega as well, took it from me. That was it. I did my part and I think I was done there. My goal there was done and I was ready to go home. I was walking out of there when something that smelled so good hit my nose. It was a mixture of freshly bloomed flowers and cinnamon, which was something that I have come across for the first time. What is it? I followed the scent and it led me to the main entrance of the conference hall. No, you can’t go there, you can’t. I thought to myself. I didn't know what to do. It was like the scent was pulling me inside. It was a strong pull attraction that I was almost about to push the door open. I stood there with my hand still holding the door handle and was thinking about whether or not to open the door when it opened widely and a tall, good-looking, young man caught my eye. I sniffed and the scent was stronger than ever. It struck my nose as strong as thunder. I looked at him in the eyes, wondering what he was looking at when he said the words that I know would change my life forever. “MATE,” He said loudly, and right at that moment, I froze.
