Chapter Three

1130 Words
It took a lot of convincing from Carissa, and a lot of promising from Theron, to get Kyle to agree to leave his mom in the hospital and go with him. “If you so much as look at me the wrong way, I’m out of there,” Kyle told Theron. “I understand,” Theron replied, his expression firm. Kyle glared at him as he entered the car. He had not even a shred if trust for Theron. They zoomed off, and Kyle turned to face the window, his thoughts occasionally drifting to his mother. “The doctor didn’t say what’s wrong with her,” Kyle muttered, turning to look at Theron in the driver’s seat. Theron didn’t answer, making Kyle sigh and turn back to the window. “The doctor hasn’t gotten a diagnosis for her condition yet,” Theron replied. Kyle turned to him again, studying his face. “You’re lying,” he stated, but when no reply to either accept or deny the allegation came from Theron. He shook his head, turning back to the window. They didn’t say anything else as they drove through the streets in silence. Theron stopped in front of a huge mansion. “We’re here,” Theron announce as Kyle raised his head to stare at the mansion in front of him. “Whoa,” Kyle breathed. “It’s beautiful.” “It is,” Theron replied. “Come on.” Theron got out of the car, urging Kyle to follow, which he did. They walked into the mansion, and Kyle’s jaw dropped. The inside was far more stunning than its exterior. “Pick your jaw up off the floor, would you?” Theron teased. Kyle rolled his eyes and closed his mouth. “Theron.” A man with blond hair approached them. “What can I do for you?” he asked, glancing at Kyle. Theron cleared his throat, bringing the man’s attention back to him. “I would like to have a word with the king.” “The king is busy,” the man dismissed. “Tell him it’s me,” Theron said, but the blond man merely picked at his fingers, looking disinterested. “And what do you think would happen if I told him that? Do you think he’d come running to you?” “Reed, I’m really not in the mood for an argument,” Theron said, rubbing his forehead. Reed scoffed, about to reply, when a deep voice boomed, “It’s fine, Reed. I’ll take it from here.” Everyone froze. Reed turned around and bowed before walking away. “Lord Adrian,” Theron said, dropping to one knee, while Kyle stood frozen, staring at the man. His heart skipped a beat. The man was drop-dead gorgeous, like a Greek god as he descended the stairs toward them. “It’s fine, Theron. Stand.” Kyle couldn’t look away, even if he tried. The man’s piercing hazel eyes landed on him and lingered for a while before turning to Theron. “Who is this human you have brought into my home?” Adrian asked. Theron turned to Kyle. “This is Kyle. He’s the son of our best spy and agent, Carissa Raven,” he said, pulling Kyle forward. “Hello,” Kyle muttered, unsure of what else to say. Adrian’s gaze swept over him from head to toe, and Kyle couldn’t help lowering his head, suddenly feeling self-conscious. “Why have you brought him here?” Adrian asked, his tone edged with anger. Though Kyle could hardly notice since his mind were already imagining some really wrong things right there. Theron flinched slightly but quickly recovered, clearing his throat. “His mother is suspected to have contracted a deadly disease during one of her missions and has requested that her son be placed under your protection.” Adrian snorted. “And why should I comply with the wishes of a human?” he asked, taking what looked like wine from a tray offered by a servant—though Kyle knew it definitely wasn’t wine. Kyle sneaked a glance at Theron and noticed his jaw clench. “Because, my lord, when she agreed to work for you, you gave her your word that you would protect her and her family from any danger.” Adrian fell silent and turned his gaze back to Kyle, studying him. A shiver ran down Kyle’s spine. Adrian felt ruthless and dangerous, yet Kyle couldn’t explain why he felt drawn to him. Adrian stepped closer. “Let me take a look at you,” he said, lifting Kyle’s lowered chin with his index finger. Kyle gasped as electricity surged through him. Adrian immediately pulled his hand back, his cold expression turned into one of shock and disbelief but he quietly school it back to it's usual cold mask. “Fine,” Adrian huffed. “He can stay.” “Thank you, Lord Adrian,” Theron said, bowing. Adrian turned to Kyle once more. Their eyes met, and Kyle sucked in a sharp breath. He had never seen anyone as handsome as Adrian, truly. Adrian looked away and signaled a servant. He turned to Theron. “He will help your boy get settled,” he said before walking away. Once Adrian was out of sight, both Kyle and Theron sighed in unison. “Come with me, master.” The servant bowed to Kyle. Kyle nodded and followed him, with Theron behind. They were led to a spacious room, and Kyle’s eyes widened. “It’s beautiful,” he muttered. The room was painted gold, with a king-sized bed draped in golden sheets. There was a walk-in closet and a spacious, pristine bathroom with white tiles. He had never seen anything like it in his life. Theron entered behind him, scanning the room. “I would have your meal delivered to your bedroom, Master Kyle. The servant said. “Thank you.” Kyle turned towards him. “It's my pleasure, master.” The servant stated giving a slight bow. “Now is there anything else you need me to do for you?” “No thank you, I'm fine.” Kyle said, giving him a weak smile. The servant bowed and left, leaving Kyle and Theron alone. “I promise I’ll take you to see your mom tomorrow,” Theron said as he turned to leave. “Theron,” Kyle called. Theron turned around. “Thanks for saving my mother.” Theron smiled and exited the room. Kyle sighed and flopped onto the king-sized bed. His thoughts drifted back to Adrian, and he felt something twitch in his pants. He let out a low groan. “Seriously Kyle, you just met the guy,” Kyle muttered, burying his blushing face in the pillow.
