Episode 1
Matteo's POV
"Matteo, I need to talk to you," my dad called as I descended the stairs.
"Yes, Dad, what is it?" I answered.
"You know Salvatore and I are good friends, right?" he told me.
"What is your point, Dad?" I asked while pouring a coffee.
"I will be retiring soon, and I want you to take over my position in handling our business and the underground world.
Salvatore and I will go on a world tour with your mom and her wife.
We will be gone for a very long time," he said after a long pause.
I looked at him, waiting for his following sentence.
"And?" I asked him with a bored expression.
"You've been training a lot. You are an expert when it comes to fighting and guns. No one has ever defeated you in the underground fights," he added.
"Dad, what is your point?" I'm running out of patience.
"Hear me out, Matteo. You know Salvatore has a daughter, right? Here it is: Salvatore has no one else to trust for his Princess. He asked me for a favour. Could you take care of her while he is away?" Dad explained.
"Dad! I can't take care of a child! Just imagine what people will say about me!" I growled at Dad.
"Matteo! Have you no respect? And remember this; I'm not asking for your permission. This is my decision, do you understand me?" Dad shouted at me before turning around and slamming the door shut.
"Oh great! That's just great!" I exclaimed in frustration.
"Hey bro, how are you? Where are you right now, and should we pick you up? We have some girls we want to introduce to you," my friend said as I answered his call.
"Not now, I'm annoyed. I'm not in the mood for a date," I declined.
"Why? What happened?" my friend asked, surprised.
"He wanted me to take care of his friend's child. They even made me a babysitter so they could have fun on the cruise," I vented in frustration.
"And to make it worse, he made me CEO and leader of the group, only to turn me into a babysitter for his friend's child," I complained.
"Hahaha, that's a good one. That's why it's even better for you to go on a date here with the person we're introducing to you, so you'll have a partner in taking care of the kid," he tried to convince me.
"But she's not a young child; she is a teenager. Can you imagine that? A teenager! So stubborn and a brat," I explained.
"Oh? Hahaha. Is she beautiful? Do you want me to help you with babysitting? I'm wonderful with it, hahaha," he eagerly suggested.
"You're crazy! Do you want Dad to kill me?" I pretended to be angrily shocked.
"Come on, bro, chill! Just let it go. If I were you, just give her some shopping money. You know how girls are, all they want is to go shopping. So give her a black card; problem solved!" he advised.
"Yeah, you're right. I don't want to think about those things right now. Thanks for your advice, bro. Okay, please pick me up because I'm not in the mood to drive," I said as I bid farewell.
"This is just Dad being Dad. I think he forgot that I'm already 25 years old, so he shouldn't be dictating to me anymore," I complained to myself.
"Just let it go. They'll be leaving soon anyway, and you won't have to hear his bossy voice for a long time," said a part of my mind that eased my heart.
"Come on, get dressed there; we're about to pick you up," he said persistently in the text.
After our conversation, I took a shower.
I can't remember when I last saw Papa's friend's child.
All I know is that, even from a young age, she was already a spoiled brat.
She would cry when unable to get what she wanted, and her parents would just give in to her demands because she was their only child.
Besides, I don't want anyone bothering me while I'm busy with my tasks.
I don't want any other concerns besides myself and my work.
My Papa, Alessandro Bernardi, and my Mama, Aria Bernardi, are the founders of the Black Phoenix Dragon Empire.
They are the sole owners of large hotels almost half the globe. Not to mention the other business ventures such as nightclubs, bars, casinos, and some underground businesses related to high-powered guns.
Pero mas pinili namin na tumira sa lugar kung saan ipinanganak si Mom, the Philippines.
When my friends arrived, we immediately left and entered the club that I owned. As soon as we got in, we headed to a corner.
"Boss, Ano po ang gusto mong dalhin namin?" the manager asked.
"Bring us some delicious dinner and drinks, just like before," I instructed.
"Okay, Boss," the manager replied with a smile.
"Relax for now, Matteo, and don't think about your problems at home," Enzo said with a smile. He's been a close friend since we were kids.
"Yeah, let us just enjoy ourselves," I eagerly replied.
I stood up as I felt the need to go to the restroom.
While on my way, I noticed a group of young women who seemed to be teenagers.
They were dancing as if there was no tomorrow, and it was obvious that they were drunk.
Various guys were surrounding them, eager to dance with them.
I shook my head at the scene.
It's a shame to see such beauty wasted in a place like this, where they won't find any decent men around.
When I came out of the restroom, I saw them still dancing.
My attention was caught by a petite and attractive girl with a somewhat seductive face.
She was at the centre of the dance floor with a guy who didn't seem to have good intentions.
"Hey, Matteo! Who are you staring at over there, and why did you take so long?" Leonard asked me.
"Oh, nothing. I just noticed someone who caught my attention," I explained.
"Really? I'm sure that's a girl," Enzo said, chuckling.
"So, tell us about your new job description," Enzo teased, changing the topic.
"I don't want to talk about those things. I thought we agreed not to discuss it anymore?" I complained.
"It's just so boring here, and since there are no girls around, let's talk about who you're going to watch over. Is she beautiful?" Leonard pried.
"I don't know. Maybe I don't know. Her parents aren't bad-looking, so their child isn't ugly either. But that's not my concern. I don't want to think about other people. I don't even have any siblings. I'm happy being on my own. Then, they gave me this obligation to be like a big brother to a troublesome kid. And the gossip about this kid came from my parents, mind you. I heard there were times when they had to pick her up from school using a helicopter because she insisted on watching a concert, and she didn't want to be late! Unbelievable. And I heard that no nanny could handle her. Many nannies were paid just to stay and tolerate her behaviour. They're even paying $500,000 a month just to have a nanny endure their child," I explained with a sigh.
"Really? Is she that bad?" Leonard asked me.
"She loves to escape. Her parents always have headaches because of her spoiled brat attitude, which is partly their fault for indulging her," I added.
"But her attitude won't work with me. I'll straighten her out," I said firmly to them.
"I can already imagine that poor kid being with you, Matteo. Good luck to her," Enzo said with a laugh.
"So, when are her parents and your parents leaving?" Enzo asked while drinking alcohol.
"I don't know. I didn't bother listening to the rest of what he said because it annoyed me," I said.
"Okay, how about this? Do you want me to bring the girl I mentioned earlier, whom I wanted to introduce to you?" Enzo asked me.
"No. I'm not in the mood to talk to anyone except you guys," I declined.
"Alright then. Let the three of us enjoy each other's company, cheers!" Leonard said with a laugh before raising his glass.
We had several glasses when some girls approached us. They seemed to be interested in getting to know us. It was apparent they were flirting, so I let them be to avoid boredom for my friends.
"Hi, what's your name?" the girl asked as she stood beside me.
"Why do you want to know?" I replied with a counter-question.
"Oh, nothing. I just want to get to know you. Maybe we could become close someday," she said with a smile, her hands creeping up my thigh.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked enthusiastically.
"Um, maybe we could meet every day," the girl suggested.
"I'm Carla, by the way. And you?" she asked, still smiling.
"Mat," I replied shortly.
"Wow, your name is so short and easy to pronounce," she said as she leaned closer to my face.
" Um, I need to go somewhere for a moment," I quickly said before her lips could touch mine.
A part of me feels repulsed by this kind of girl, whereas before, I would have been all for it. Perhaps I'm just not in the mood, and that's why I'm feeling this way.
