Chapter 3

Emerald got out of the subway and called for a Didi taxi. She sat outside of the exit as she waited and ten minutes later a car arrived and She entered. She sighed as the driver greeted her, he was playing some chinese music. It always calmed her when she entered a car that was playing chinese music, it was soothing in a way She didn't understand. Today at work was so hectic for her, She just needed a breather. She hoped Xiao hui's friend didn't come today because She was so not ready to exchange pleasantries with other people. She just wanted to go home, shower and sleep. Twenty minutes later, She reached her apartment building and got out of the car. She dragged her feet towards the door then to the elavator and finally She was at her door. Oh, the relief! She opened and Xiao hui was at her keyboard playing.

"Hello." That was normally Xiao hui's prolonged greeting everytime Emerald found her at home.

"Hey, what's up." Emerald replied with a smile. While Anapieva was always cuddly and hugging Emerald everytime She returned home, Xiao hui wasn't cuddly at all, which was such an irony since Emerald always thought French people were cuddly and all that.

"I'm picking up Marek from the Airport tonight." Xiao hui beamed.

Great! Emerald groaned. "What time?"

"At 10:30pm, we will be back here."

"Oh, Okay. I think I'll be asleep by the time you guys come back, I feel so tired." Emerald said, She had removed her inflamable bed from her luggage which She will use so Marek can use her room. The thing is She hated it because she had to roll it up the next day. "Why can't he book a hotel though?"

"Please don't sleep, you know I have to go back home and I don't want him to feel alone, please?" Xiao hui begged.

"Okay, just Hurry up, hopefully I won't be asleep by then."

"Thanks Gal, I owe you a lot. So I'm gonna ride my bike to the Airport now." Xiao hui said and got out of the house with her bike keys in tow.

Emerald sighed and went to the bathroom, She showered slowly under the hot water spray. She then slowly toweled herself dry and dressed up in a big shirt that she used often. She dragged her bed to the next room and put air in it. She put some sheets and a pillow and lay back down. She requested for sleep to take her but none came. Crap, tonight of all nights? She tossed and turned in vain.

Her mind started wandering to her last relationship, not relationship actually. It was just a one drunken night mistake. She had never allowed a relationship to form in her life. She always ran everytime it started to become serious. She just felt not cut out for relationships so she prefered to meet guys once in a while or just abstain. Two options as long as it didn't last long. No man had ever understood her, She actually didn't understand herself either. She felt so detached from the outside world, always felt left out, like looking in from the outside, but on the other hand it felt like she engineered that situation because there were times she could totally fit in in the same group she felt apart from just moments ago. She confused her own self, so She was so sure no man or woman can ever figure her out. She had finally told Xiao hui the other day already about her situation and her friend had cried and drunk with her that day. So She had felt Xiao hui would understand when She Said She had wanted to sleep and not disturb her with her visitor ex-boyfriend.

Her body finally started to relax and as sleep started to slip in, She distantly heard the door opening.

"Eme, we are here." She heard Xiao hui's voice.

Someone shoot me please! Emerald groaned.

Hours earlier...

Xiao hui rode smoothly towards the Airport. She was so excited to see Marek after six years. They hadn't been talking and it was just out of the blue that he texted her that he wanted to come to China for a business research. She was so excited, not for anything else because she had a boyfriend, a nice Russian guy who loved her to pieces. She just felt good to meet an old friend with whom they had known eachother in Ireland. She truthfully didn't remember their time together, She was so young, a year out of teenage hood. She smiled as She rode into the Airport drive way, Marek had texted that he would be at the entrance of Terminal B, Beijing International Airport.

Marek looked around confused. He couldn't believe no one spoke English here. After he got off the plane, he had to buy a simcard to be able to communicate with Xiao hui. No one understood the word simcard after several attempts of asking different people, what the heck! This is totally not what he had expected, but him being a positive guy, he looked around some more and finally found a*****e to buy one. He called Xiao hui immediately and She told him where She was. He came out and grinned. She looked totally the same, just as beautiful as she was six years ago, only one thing had changed, She smoked. His little innocent little rabbit smoked and her hair was so long.

"Honey bunny," He called out to her, that had been his name for her because he always used to say she looked like a little rabbit. Xiao hui turned and saw him, her face turned from serious into a smile to a grin to loud laughter as Marek swirled her around. He finally put her down then gave her a big smack on the cheek. "How are you?" He asked in his deep Polish accent.

"Oh, I'm great. As usual. Welcome to Beijing." She said as they turned to her bike.

"This is yours?" He asked and She nodded, "Wow, where did my innocent scared honey bunny go?" He never pictured her to ride such a horse bike. He had a bigger version of that back home.

"Just sit, Lemme take you home." She grinned and sat on her bike, he sat behind her as she rode out of the Airport. They talked as they drove home, "Actually, you are going to stay with a friend of mine, She gave up her room for you so feel free to share the bed."

"Haha, are you trying to hook me up already?" Marek laughed.

"Ofcoarse not, I'm just saying." Xiao hui said and Marek laughed. They pulled into the apartment parking lot.

"All houses look the same, I'll probably get lost here." Marek said.

"This is the chinese style of building, it's dark now, you Can see it better tomorrow." Xiao hui assured him. "Now, it's time to meet my beautiful sexy black friend." She pulled him along towards the elevator.

"Okay. Let's go." Marek said dutifully and waited silently as Xiao hui opened the door.

"Eme, we are here." Xiao hui called loudly, knowing quite well Emerald was awake, just hiding. "Come out, Eme, are you sleeping? She added sweetly.

Emerald slowly came out, her eyes went to Marek first. Their eyes met and the two froze for seconds then the spell broke.

"Eme, this is Marek, Marek, Emerald." Xiao hui Said.

"Hi Marek, nice to meet you finally." Emerald tried to put on a pleasant smile. She had promised.

"Hi, Emerald, Sweet name you got there. Nice to meet you too." He stretched out his hand and shook hers. Marek smiled, Holy Mother of God and the Angels above. Marek swore to himself. This was gonna be a long and mind blowing holiday.
