Marek had never regretted anything in his life, but sitting there on the park bench had given him enough time to think. He had made a lot of decisions in his past on a whim and still things had managed to pull through. He had decided to ask Xiao hui to book for him the last taxi and he would just accept defeat and return to Poland. He had businesses waiting for him and he had been crazy enough to think he would just leave everything in the hands of his assistant and just explore. In that same moment as he started to dial her number, She texted him saying She was Sorry that he was all alone and no one to show him around, so She sent him Emerald's contact and asked him to add her on wechat. She Said She had talked to Emerald already and She had agreed to meet him anywhere. Marek wasn't convinced, he still felt mad, hungry and angry.
He added her anyway and She replied 30 minutes later. 'Took you long enough!' he muttered to himself. He couldn't access a simple social media app on his phone in this godforsaken country because apparently all foreign apps were blocked. You had to download VPN to be able to access them, Which was also something that had proved a pain in the behind. His only way of communication was through wechat which he had just downloaded the night he landed, because that was the only app in English. He was so frustrated, he vowed never to travel again without a plan in hand.
When Emerald replied him and they talked, his replies were short and curt. He really wanted to be nice but he was not in the mood anymore. All he had to do was now wait for her and be hopeful that She would show as promised. He had to wait two more hours for her, two more hours of hunger and fatigue. He trained people for a living, but unplanned for and unwanted exercise was totally hectic. He had walked like he had never done before. So when Emerald had said She would come, he had found a seat and sent her the location. He was now putting his life in her hands.
Two painful hours later, Emerald said She was almost there and he walked to try to meet her at the gate of the Forest park. Whatever Olive had wanted him to see in this place was probably inside, and he had no wish of going there or seeing any freaking sight. Emerald called her as he went North of the gate. He picked on the second ring.
"Where are you?" He froze in place, his heart picking up pace. Her voice was so smooth, so sweet, so calming. He felt relief wash over him, wait what?
"I just came out of the gate and turned right." He replied as he looked around.
"Come back to the gate. That's where I am now." She replied and he smiled. She had actually come and she even didn't know him. She probably was tired too from work.
"I see you." He exclaimed with relief when he saw her. Total Joy filled his eyes, though he really really felt dead tired. She looked up and had a smile on her face. Her grin became bigger as he approached. Why would she even laugh? He wondered. Hadn't he interrupted her schedule?
Crap, She looked like a saving Angel! His heart beat even faster with every step he took near her. He could kiss her with gratitude just about now.
"My Savior, My Angel." He couldn't stop the words as they poured out from him. He felt such great relief and had no words left. He swooped down giving her a bear hug. He didn't want to let go. She felt so warm, so soft and welcoming.
Oh so f*****g good. His fatigue lessened and he felt a bit better than earlier. He reluctantly let her go and taking her backpack from her, smiled down and asked. "So, where do we go?"
She smiled and replied with a question, "Where do you wanna go?"
"I have no idea." He was now totally letting her take control. He held her hand in his as she steered him towards the gate of the park. It felt so right holding hands like this.
"You know there is nothing in this park. I've never been here but it just seems like a normal Chinese park where people just go for a jog or a walk." She Said but still led him to the entrance he had passed through two times already. He didn't protest though, he felt that with her he could walk more miles. Cheesy much!
"I don't know. I didn't see anything either, I just thought there was more to see inside." Why the hell was he even saying this. He didn't want to walk anymore.
"So, how did you come here? because this place is so far from home." She said home and there was a twinge in his heart. He already missed his home, but strangely her presence had made everything a bit better. She listened quietly without interrupting as he told her how he had come to the park. When he had finished She burst out laughing. what the f**k! He couldn't help but smile although he didn't know why She was laughing. "I'm sorry for laughing but gosh, aren't you tired already? And here you are continuing to walk. I think you have done enough unwanted exercise for your whole stay here." She smiled and continued. "Look at it this way, atleast you won't need to do more exercise until you return to your country."
Marek laughed making her smile. She was funny. He liked her already.
"So, what do you suggest?" He asked.
"I suggest we go feed you." They had already reached so far inside the park and it was getting dark. They turned back to the exit. "So, what do you wanna eat, Mister?"
"Anything with meat." He was starving. He could eat a whole Elephant.
"Have you eaten Beijing roast duck before?" She asked with a smile.
"Roast duck, Yes, Beijing, nope."
"Cool, I know just the place. My friends took me there for my birthday dinner."
"Lead the way my Angel." He said and She smiled as she got out her phone to call a Didi taxi. She put in their location and the restaurant they were going to.
"Okay, we wait." She Said.
"Whatever you say. I'm all yours."
"Easy there cow boy." She laughed and he smiled. She was so easy to talk to. Where had She been all his life! They waited for close to 8 minutes while She told him different stories making him laugh. He had forgotten his hunger, anger and fatigue. The car arrived and drove them to their destination. It was a high end restaurant with a classy set up. They entered and the waiters took them straight to a table for two. Thank God they didn't need to reserve. He wasn't ready for more drama, and now that he had neared a restaurant and smelt food, all hunger came back in full swing.
They sat down and he asked her to order for them, which She did and they waited. They brought them warm water and Emerald explained to him that it was the norm here. Warm water was like a tradition. It was the first thing served before anything else. He laughed as She told him more stories, and he also watched her laugh out when he Said something funny. She had a beautiful laugh and smile. She wasn't the sulky girl he had met yesterday.
He smiled as their food came and they both dug in immediately. As it is well known, if you starve too much and food finally appears, you fail to eat as much as you think you would. So they both ate something small and they both argued about settling the bill which in the end Marek won and paid.
"Thanks for the dinner, Emerald." Marek said sincerely as they moved out of the restaurant.
"No. Thank you." She replied. They stood out as Emerald called a taxi to take them home. The evening chill had settled in and Emerald shivered.
"Are you cold?" Marek saw her shiver, She shook her head but he pulled her in his arms and cuddled her from behind. "Come here baby." He didn't wait for her answer.
Emerald didn't protest as She was in shock. umm, what the actual f**k! Why was he calling her baby? Maybe because she had saved his day. She shrugged and burrowed into his warmth as they waited for the taxi.
