My Mystery Man

A dreamy morning it was indeed, with the rain pouring gently and the cold breeze blowing through the window blinds, I was tucked up nicely in bed even after hearing my alarm go off.. the annoyance of having to get up and prepare for work this cozy morning was a major challenge.. I was having a hard time dragging myself out of bed.. contemplating if I should just abandon my job and live the dream princess life.. But how do I fend for myself? Foot all my bills and send some money back home? I sigh.. realizing that getting out of job isn’t a smart option.. living the Princess life is a luxury I cannot afford now obviously..  Or maybe never?? throwing the covers, and staggering to my feet.. I reach out and grab my electric kettle,.. plugged it into the power socket and boom! A loud spark!   Jesus! Jumping back and alarmed What now??? I hiss  petrified and looking closely, the kettle cord seemed burned.. there was absolutely nothing I could do to retrieve it.. with a frustrated sigh! I resorted to call Freeda.. my friend and roommate from University.. explaining the incident while sorting out my cloths.. she messaged me a number of an electrician who could be of help!  Great! Thanks Free! I said dryly as we hung up..  Well, I dialed the number and waited on the other end.. while it rang..   A middle aged male picked the call on the second ring, and without confirming if it was the electrician, I proceeded to rant to him about my burnt kettle and how he could be of help..   The man on the other end of the line  laughed slightly and said “ I think you have the wrong number”  what??? Omg! I’m Sorry !  With one swift move! I ended the call, Scrolled back to the message only to realize that I missed a number.. damn!!  Approaching the bathroom and trying to be brave in dealing with the extremely cold water in front of me when my fone rang! I picked it and it was the same person I dailed.  With an eye roll,  I picked up.. Well hello there! he said.. so cheerfully!! *Like we were buddies*  I know you meant to call someone else but your voice was so magical and therapeutic I couldn’t hold myself from calling again.. .. Iam Ted.. May I know your name please?  Oh God! I muttered under my breath.. not now! I don’t need this right now!! I’m terribly late for work! My electric kettle just exploded! I’m about to have a pretty cold bath on a rainy morning  ! my mood has been ruined already.. this is the last thing I want right now!!!  With all this thoughts hovering my mind.. I blurted our the words..  Uhhh! You already noticed it was a wrong number so please can you drop it!!! Besides, I continued, don’t you think it’s rather  too early in the morning to be trying to score cards with a strange woman? Don’t you have any work to do ??  Having said these, I ended the call immediately I finished talking not giving him any chance to respond to me! With that done, I threw my phone on the bed and stepped into the shower.. counting 1- 10 and screaming as I poured the cold water  With all my  ordeal this morning.. I couldn’t get to work on time.. I had to wait endlessly at the junction before finally getting a bus that was heading my way!! Making me terribly late..  As if that wasn’t enough, I had to face the wrath of my Boss for arriving late and then I had to face male customers that were flirting with me all morning!!  After a long day.. I retired to my room apartment and collapsing on my bed.. just as I was starting to drift off to sleep after eating some junk food I bought on my way home.. my phone buzzed again.. I picked up without looking at the caller ID and realized it was the mysterious man that I wrongly dailed this morning..  I made a resolution to remain calm and listen to him..  He sounded so chill .. with very strong command in his tone.. and very friendly too.. Hello you!! (Sounding so cheerful again  like we were old friends or something)  Once again, my name is TED. and i apologize for early today.. didn’t mean to ruin your day.. so. May I please know your name?  My name is Lilian! I responded reluctantly..  We talked for a while and I realized he was a very Interesting person.. I apologized for how I behaved earlier and he told me he didn’t take any offense at all..  This mystery man and I developed the habit of talking on phone for very long hours.. when I’m off work.. we would talk about literally everything.. he was very knowledgeable! I always learn a thing or two from our conversations..  This continued for months before he popped the question.. I would really love to see you Lilian ! I think it’s time I see the beautiful woman that  has made me the happiest these past months..  I blushed!! knowing a day like this would come.. I wanted to see him too but I wasn’t sure if I was ready..  I was already soooo into him. even without seeing him.. he had a way of making me feel so good about myself and i was glad that the feeling was mutual..
