Chapter 20
Rachel's POV
When the sirens went off, I was a little freaked out. I had never heard the sirens go off before, though we just got back home from being out of the country for a while. I thought it was rogues coming to attack, but it wasn't that; it was Bear's people coming out of the woods. Let me tell you something: that siren was freaking loud. We hurried over there with Tori and Bear. I overheard that man killed over two hundred people who were trying to leave because rogues were on the land and staying. He even killed pups. That sorry excuse of a mother fuc**ing dog-face whor*. Wait, I started looking for Cutie Face; that's what I called him because I had no clue what his name was. I was starting to worry. I really wanted to speak with him, to talk to him, to get to know him, but he wasn't there. That man killed my chosen mate, the man that I was going to choose as mine until he found his mate. Sighing, I was heading back to my house so I could hide in my room when I felt a hand gently touch my fingers. I slowly turned around, thinking it was my sister Tori. I knew I was crying; there was no use trying to hide it. When I turned around to face her, it wasn't my sister; it was Cutie Face.
“I'm sorry I'm late. Listen, I know what you want, okay? I haven't found my mate either. I like you, but I would like to get to know you. How did he know what I wanted from him? I had to ask him because now he had me wondering.”
“But how did you know I wanted you as my chosen mate?” He smiled, pulling me to him so he could calm me down. Then he told me,
“I can read minds. Not many people know about this because they can use me for bad things, so I don't tell anyone. I want you as my chosen mate as well, and when we find our mates, we will step aside. I promise I will treat you as my goddess-gifted mate. I will cherish you until the day we walk away from each other and then after.” Wow, this guy really knows how to talk. Was he serious? Was that a promise that we would reject each other right away instead of just pushing me to the side for his mate?
“Yes, I promise you, I will reject you the right away and not just push you to the side. I won't hurt you, and I hope you won't hurt me. By the way, my name is Cord. What is your name?”
“My name is Rachel, and I would never hurt you. I would like for you to meet my family.” He held onto my hand as we walked over to my dad and Cheyenne with my brother and his mate and my sister and Bear. When we reached them, I told them what was going on, and we chose each other. If we find our goddess-gifted mates, we will reject each other the right way and step aside but always cherish each other. Even I knew this was not going to last long. I had that feeling, but I'm going to cherish every moment with him.
Well, Cord, welcome to the family. It seems the family just keeps getting bigger. Just make sure you treat her well, and she will do the same for you. We have a pick-up tomorrow night; you're welcome to come. How good of a shot are you? Dad was already scaring the man, but he recovered quickly.
CORD POV
When Mohawk told us what was going on, we headed into the woods to see Bear. I thought he was truly dead, but when I saw him with my own eyes, I was excited. Yet, I couldn't miss the beautiful woman who kept looking at me. I didn't know why she kept staring, so I read her mind. She wanted me as her chosen mate but didn't know how to talk to me about it. She hoped I would come with them tonight. I had already made up my mind—I was leaving this pack. I was going to depart in the next few days to be a lone wolf. However, since this beautiful woman came along, I wasn't passing this up. We left to head back to the pack before we were missed, and they left. I wanted to turn around to watch her leave, but I was worried that if I did, I would run after her. So, I stood my ground and walked back with Mohawk. Once there, we started telling people what was going on. Then suddenly, Kevin came out. This was bad, very bad. He looked around and then smirked.
"Alright, since you're out here anyway, I might as well tell you, I have rogues coming to stay with the pack. They will do as they please and when they want to do it. They will be the fighters of the battle arena. Once it's over, they will leave. So, if you don't want to get hurt, go home because they are almost here." We all looked at each other. Then one of the younger boys said, "That's okay, we are leaving anyway." When Kevin heard that, he was pissed off. The rogues started coming into the land, and Kevin ordered each rogue to kill as many of us as they could. "Don't let them get out of the border!" We fought with them, killed a few, but in the end, we all ran. Many of us didn't make it, including pups. Kevin does not care who gets killed. It was like a m******e back there. When we made it to the mafia pack, she didn't see me, but I could see her. She was looking around for me, and when she didn't see me, she started walking away. I hurried out of the crowd and gently held her arm. We talked for a while and agreed to be chosen mates. I read her mind again; she knew this wouldn't last long. However, at least we wouldn't be alone. We could wait together. We promised not to hurt each other. Then I went to meet her family. Trust me, this is one family you never want to mess with.
