Chapter 36
Rachel's POV
It was a long two-hour flight that was supposed to be just an hour, but it turned into a two-hour one. Mohawk wanted to land and get a burger from an airport; he’s quite insistent, but that's what he wanted. It seems he's always hungry - that's wolves for you. He got me one as well, and then we took off again. I don't know why, but the closer we got, the more my wolf started to stir. Lately, she has been quiet, but once Cord came over, she woke up wanting to rip his head off. Once he left, she was fine again. We finally made it to West Virginia. I can't believe it's colder here than the town we live in. I even saw flurries coming down. Is this place about to have snow on the ground? It better not. We are only here for a week, and I'm not about to stay any longer.
"Don't worry, the weather forecast said it's only flurries. Nothing serious is going to happen. We will be able to leave at the end of the week," I nodded and sighed, "Thank the goddess, I was worried about that." When the jet landed, we got our bags and waited until they told us we could step out. I made sure I was wearing a thick sweater before walking off. When we got on the ground, I saw someone standing by a limo. It wasn't really a limo, but it looked fancy. I didn’t know what kind of car it was, but it was gray with the engine showing on top, had red flames on the side, and shiny rims. I bet this thing could go really fast. Was he here for us? Walking towards him, I was going to walk right by when he held up a sign that read Mohawk and Rachel.
"That's us, and who are you?" He bowed his head, which I thought was really strange, then he raised his head to look at us.
"My name is Beta John. I'm here because the alpha had a meeting, and it will run until late hours. I'm supposed to take you on a tour of the pack and show you around the territory," I nodded.
"Well, I know they have meetings often. Let's get going so we can see how the rogues are getting inside. If we can't find anything, then someone from the inside must be letting them in." He opened the car door for me, then for Mohawk, and then got in the driver's seat. We had to wait until we got away from the airport before he started speeding. Damn, I loved this car; I wanted one. We got to the pack in no time; it only took thirty minutes. The pack looked very nice, with many houses and people walking around the territory. I even saw pups playing; they looked so cute. We pulled up in the driveway, he parked, and we got out. I noticed they had a large playground for the pups to play on. I wondered how big the training grounds were; I was ready to check everything out. He told me that the omegas would take care of our bags and put them in the rooms that we would be staying. I grabbed the folder that I needed. I needed to check off some things and note any improvements.
We first went around the pack house. He showed us the inside gyms, then the training grounds. Well, the place was big. I saw a large track where they ran laps, and people were training. We stood there to watch; they were pretty good. I liked it when one of the girls drop-kicked one of the guys, then flipped over him, kicking his back - that's a good move; I need to remember to use it when we need to. He showed us the gardens; I wasn't really into gardening flowers, but I did like the vegetable gardens. I love the smell of fresh-growing vegetables. I was starting to get a flash of something, but I stopped it. I didn't need this right now; I was here to see how the rogues were getting inside. We saw the garden stations and met a few of them. We met some of the warriors as well and saw their houses. Nothing looked out of place. I felt like he was stalling for some reason, and Cloud was jumping around, then she was looking through my eyes. I didn't mind her doing that, but she doesn't often do it.
‘Alright, are you ready to shift? We are going to run the territory now.’ I nodded as I went behind a tree to shift. Then, we emerged in our wolf forms. John's wolf was a large brown wolf with silver eyes that looked really pretty. We ran the border around the territory and back again. I didn't see any holes, nothing out of place, nothing wrong. I was starting to think this was an inside job, and I wanted to know who it was. It was getting late when we finally made it back to the pack.
‘The alpha is out of the meetings now; he wants us to head to his office.’ ‘Well, it's about time,’ I muttered to myself. I was starting to think the alpha was trying to avoid us.
“First, do you want to see your rooms, or would you like to talk to the alpha first?” I thought about it for a second. Was this guy trying to make us avoid seeing the alpha? Was he the one letting the rogues inside? I wasn't sure. But I think we need to see and talk to the alpha first. That’s why I said, “I think we need to speak with the alpha first. It's pretty strange that nothing is out of place. Nothing is dug around the fence, and there are no holes around the ground. I really think this is an inside job. So let's go talk to him first.” Beta John nodded then said, “Well, let's get going; he's waiting for us in his office.”
That's when Cloud started getting excited. What in the world is going on here? Why is she so excited? She was going around in circles and wagging her tail like a little puppy. Did she know something I didn't know? I should have let that vision come forward, but I was just caught up in my own thoughts. We walked into the pack house, and that's when I started smelling chocolate and almonds, an odd scent. But I couldn’t resist following it. The scent led right to a room. I didn't bother knocking; I just opened the door. And there he was, sitting behind his desk like a nervous wreck. I couldn't believe it was him until I said his name.
“Alpha Cole.”
