Chapter 9

2027 Words
Addison's POV I am with David right now looking for some street children. He told me that he knew a place where there's a lot of street children but there were specific children he knew already. And that is the one we are looking for. "Are we already near?" I asked him, 'cause I don't want to be punished by Sylvester if ever I will be late later. "Yes, yes why are you in a hurry?" "I don't want to be late, I will be given a punishment by Sylvester if ever I will be late at his given time for me to be there [mansion]," I answered. "Tsk that man! Don't worry I got you, okay? Don't worry about it," he conveyed. "B-but? How about the meals that I am going to bring there?" Actually I am petrified because this is my first day of work and I might be kicked out if ever. "Those meals should be there by 3pm, he told me earlier." I took a deep breath because of dismay. "If you are with me, you don't need to worry that much okay? I got you, if something happened, just call me right away, here's my calling card." He handed me the card and I accepted it. For the meantime, I make myself available and happy even just this day. After driving for almost an hour, we arrived at a particular parking area. It is surrounded by metal fences and outside of it is surrounded by a variety of grasses. When I turned my sight to the left I saw a small house? I don't know if this is really a small house. David started to walk towards the small house and so did I. "Mr. David!" The kids shouted and I was shocked about it. I think these are the kids that David is referring to. They are actually five, and I think the two of them are already teenagers while the three aren't. "Hello kids, how are you?" David asked. "We're okay here Mr. David, and we would like to thank you for the supplies you've sent here." The teenage girl spoke. "Oh by the way, this is Addison." "Hello kids I am Addison, the new friend of Mr. David and to inform y'all, today we're going to have some fun." After I said those, the three little kids shouted while the other two just smiled. "I thought she was your girlfriend Mr. David." This time the boy was the one who talked. "A-ah no...no… actually she is the personal assistant of Mr. Sylvester, the one I introduced last week with you," David said. Meanwhile, I feel awkward hearing their conversation since they don't even care if I am in front of them. "By the way Miss Addison, I am Jhianna and this is Paulo." They introduce themselves to me. "How about these kiddos, what are their names?" I asked. "Hello Miss Addison, I am Tyler." The smallest boy introduced himself. Then the two others introduce themselves and they are Cairene and Shonnel. They are twins. After getting to know each other, we instructed them to change their clothes. Seeing their situation makes me feel sorry for myself 'cause it feels like I didn't do anything for them. I don't know the feeling I always feel every Time I see street children. Like, we demand and ask for more without knowing that there's a lot of children out there whose situation is worse than ours. That is why, we should be thankful for all the things that we have whether it is small or big. Just like these kids, they are not given the same privilege like us. They are being neglected by their parents. Yet they never complain about the world they woke up one day. Or we just don't hear their agony? Or are we just too ignorant and naive about the situation they are living with? Indeed we are! What we see in the media isn't the real situation of those kids. It is much more awful and difficult. "Are you okay at the back, kids?" I asked them and we were already on our way towards the Sylvester Mall which was named after Sylvester McLaine. They just nodded and said nothing so I went back to my previous position. A sudden idea just popped up in my mind and I need to ask this to David. "Hmm? D-david?" I called his attention. "Yes?" "Did you send these kids to school?" I asked him. "Yes, I already know them for three years already, I think? I don't exactly remember the exact date I met these kids," he explained. After hearing his explanation, I just nodded and I didn't ask a question again. After one hour of traveling, we finally arrived at Sylvester Mall. This mall is not new to me already. I've been here a lot like if I am bored and if I want to be alone. "Mr. David, is Mr. Sylvester coming with us today?" Cairene asked. "A-ah baby, Mr. Sylvester is busy right now that's why he can't come today okay? But, maybe next week, you can see him again…" David lied. After Cairene heard the answer from David she never talked again. The moment we entered the mall, we headed directly towards McDonalds inside this mall. It was requested by the kids so we just accompanied them. David, Jhianna and Paulo are the one who ordered our meals while Cairene and Shonnel are with me. We looked for a free table, and then at the corner we saw one which really suits us. "Let's just wait for them okay?" I said to the kids in front of me. "A-are you the girlfriend of Mr. David?" Shonnel asked. "You are so beautiful," Jhianna complimented me. I never thought that these kids have this kind of trait—being so talkative. But it is okay, they are cute especially the way they talk. "A-actually, I am not the girlfriend of Mr. David, I am just his friend," I explained to them very well. "Ah, it's okay, maybe sooner you will be his girlfriend, right Cairene?" I was shocked when Shonnel uttered those words. "Is it the first time that David brought a woman with you?" I trumpeted. "No, you are the first one he brought to us, I mean he showed it to us ," Shonnel answered. I just nodded at them, I never thought that I was really the first woman as they thought that I was what David showed to them. After a couple of minutes our orders were already gotten by them. "Here you go! Enjoy your meal okay? 'Cause after that, we're going to Kids Zone and you guys will play," David said. The kids shouted and they didn't even think of the people around them and liked it. Like, why are we going to hinder those people who are celebrating small victories and enjoying their life, right? The moment we started eating, I suddenly remembered my parents. How I wish that they are here with me right now and we're eating together. David even asked me, if I am okay since I am just looking at them eating happily. And I also realized that the woman who will marry David is very lucky. This man is genuine and gentle. He knows whom to prioritize and whom to take care of just like these kids. So happy for these kids since they were given an opportunity by David and they accepted it. In addition to that, the resiliency of these kids are very commendation. Despite the situation they are living with, they still managed to survive everyday. I would love to know how they managed to ease the loneliness. "Jhianna? Can I ask you a question since you're the oldest one here," I said to start a conversation. "Yeah sure what is it?" She furiously said. "Are there any nights you are longing with your parents? Are there any nights that you are crying because of loneliness?" The moment I asked those questions, she stopped eating. She drank water before she answered me. And when my attention went to David he was just smiling—I know he already knew the story of these kiddos. "To answer your question, yes, there are nights that I am longing for my parents since I haven't seen them yet. I always questioned myself, do I deserve this? Do I really need to live this life? Do I deserve to be in this world? Those are the questions that I always ask myself. Of course suicidal thoughts? It is inevitable, however, Mr. David should to us and seems that he is now our light, he gives us hope, he gives us another chance to live this world despite the cruelty it brings," she explained. "How do you manage or how do you cope up with those negative thoughts?" "Actually, we cope up with those kinds of thoughts by thinking of the sacrifices that Mr. David made to us. Also, we promised to each other that we will become successful someday and help those kids living in the streets to have better homes," she explained. I was really mesmerized and amazed by her answer. I never thought that these kids already had a better plan for their future. Well, it is already normal for them to think like that because of the situation they are living with. Like they need to study and work hard to become successful someday to change their life. That should be the thing that we are thinking every time you are already on the verge of constantly losing yourself and giving up everything you've started. "I think you made them realize the value of life, David, you are a great instrument to them," I said while plastering my beautiful smile. The moment I smiled, David blushed. What with this man why he blushed? "Ah, yes since I am also an orphan already." I never thought that he is already an orphan 'cause I really thought that he is still living with his parents. "I am sorry to hear that," I apologized. "Such a brave man," I added. He just smiled at me and we continued eating. However, our conversation still goes on but not that serious just like the previous one. We laughed 'cause Shonnel is such a hilarious kid including David. Imagine, hunk guys had this kind of trait and you just have to discover it on your own. That is why, don't easily judge the book by its cover. After we ate, we relaxed for a couple of minutes until we decided to leave the said place. "Ah David? By the way, what about the meals?" I started the conversation while we're walking towards the Kids zone. "Ah yeah about it, I already told my workers to bring it there," he answered. "Thank you so much, and D-david can I ask for a favor?" I denoted shyly. "Hmm what is it?" "Hmm, a-after this, can we go home? I have something to drop by for my parents." It is actually the bonus I got earlier from Sylvester. "Yeah sure no problem about it, I am glad to know your parents," he told me. I mouthed thank you and we continued walking towards the Kid's zone. The kids are excited to play inside and so am I. "By the way, can I have your number?" David asked. "A-ah? For what reason?" I asked. He rubbed the back of his head. I think he is shy right now. "N-nothing, maybe I can invite you some other time like to visit these kids," he answered. "Okay? Give me your phone." He handed his phone so I got it. I typed my number and I saved it directly. I named it 'Addie' since it is my nickname. "So your nickname is Addie? Can I call you that way instead?" I nodded at him as my answer to his question. After that I get my phone first since someone is calling. The moment I looked up, I saw…. "Sir?" It was Sylvester holding his phone.
