I tightened my fingers on the tray as I looked around the room filled with students everywhere. Thankfully my eyes caught Maisie on the far end of the cafeteria, sitting alone at a table eating her lunch.
"Hey," I said lowly, placing my tray down on the table across from her.
She looked up with a scowl on her face until she realized it was me, and her whole face lit up into a smile. To say it was shocking to see Maisie could even scowl was an understatement. But, she always had such a happy and bubbly personality around me.
It is because I soothe her.
I ignored Jade's comment, not sure how to respond or react to that.
"What has you in this mood?" I asked, sitting down, giving her a small reassuring smile.
"I have the twins in my English class, and a b***h in class decided to embarrass me in order to try to make herself look good." Her scowl returned at the memory. Maisie picked up her fork, aggressively stabbing the piece of steak on her plate before putting it in her mouth. "She made me sound like some crazy stalker royal groupie Elle. I swear if the teacher hadn't walked in, I would have killed the twat."
A giggle escaped my mouth, causing her to train her eyes on me, a pissed-off look on her face.
"Come on, don't look at me like that. YOu cant expect me to keep a straight face when you call someone a twat." I defended. I hadn't been trying to hurt her feelings with my laughter. I just always found her choice of words amusing.
"Enough about my drama. How has your day been going?" She asked, obviously trying to take the attention off herself. Something she did when we were kids. It's how I knew this was really bothering her. Maisie loved attention almost as much as I despised it. So for her to move the attention off of herself, this bothered her. If it was the girl who spoke poorly about her, or if it was due to the twin princes' having a negative opinion of her, I wasn't sure.
"Well, you didn't wake me up this morning, so I was running late." I give her some side-eye, letting her know I didn't appreciate the extra twenty minutes she let me sleep in.
"Noted. Won't let that happen again." She smirked, taking a sip of her water bottle.
"I had to skip breakfast, then completely ran into some guy near the entrance. Thankfully he grabbed me before I completely kissed the floor. Then I ended up with the twins in my homeroom, they decided to sit behind me, causing lots of eyes to stare at me, and well, you know how much I hate that." My words were a blur as I quickly spoke about my day. "The rest of my classes have been as normal as can be expected." Grabbing the apple from my tray, I took a bite.
For a while, we sat in silence as we both finished our lunches. I quickly ate mine. Since I skipped breakfast, I was starving.
"Hi, Malachi." A high-pitched over feminine voice screeched out, causing me to wince.
"Ugh, it's that bitch." Maisie said, looking over my right shoulder. I turn my head to see a petite girl with bright red hair and Hazel eyes looking over to the entrance, a giant smile on her face as she waved frantically.
"Is that your new friend you made," I said, laughter evident in my voice. The deadpan face Maisie gave me cause a very unladylike snort to come out of my lips.
Quickly I put my fist against my lips to prevent another snort. I busy myself by looking over towards the entrance where the girl is still staring and waving at.
To my complete and utter shock, there I see the guy from this morning, another guy beside him as they talk in hushed tones.
He must have felt eyes on him because deep sapphire eyes look up to meet mine after a few seconds of staring at him.
With a tight small smile to not look like a completely rude baboon, I turned back towards Maisie to see her staring over at him still, her mouth hanging slightly ajar.
"Earth to Mase," I said in a low voice, humor lacing my words once again. Poor girl, I know how she feels. Thankfully I had already gotten over my shock over his godlike looks this morning when I collided with him.
"Do you know who that is?" The words flew out her mouth in a whispered flurry.
"Yeah," I said, though I didn't really know. "He's the guy I almost steamrolled this morning."
A that her mouth hung open once more, but this time at me. Her eyes were wide as saucers, and her silence was starting to make me nervous.
Who exactly was he?
"Um, Elle, that's," She began then quickly shut her mouth, her eyes once again large, this time looking right behind me over my head.
"Annabelle right?"
