9- Annabelle

My feet kept swinging side to side as we sat on the sea wall. We were looking out towards the ocean, the light from the moon and stars reflecting on the water causing it to sparkle.  "Do you know what I am?" My voice barely a whisper. It took a lot of nerve for me to ask. I could see him turn towards me from my peripheral, a brow raised in question, or maybe in confusion. I don't see the point in asking him. You have a dragon, after all, so it does not matter. "Um, Dragon?" The humor was in his voice evident. I couldn't help the smile that spread over my face.  "Yes, but not fully." I quickly cast my eyes down and stared at my hands hard.  "And yet you have a dragon." He stated, his voice monotone as he looked for my reaction. And let me say I gave it to him. My head snapped towards him with a quickness, eyes wide.  Fear began to creep into me slowly. The one thing my parents overstressed was not to let anyone know of my dragon. What exactly would happen now that the Crowned Prince knew? "Don't worry, little bird, and your secret is safe with me." I released the breath I didn't even know I was holding on to.  Looking out towards the water again, my mind started to work on overdrive. How does he know? Why is he not telling anyone? How much danger could I really be in? Maybe my parents were just overly dramatic or cautious. I had too many questions and no answers.  I had settled on asking him a question he could answer when I heard footsteps nearing.  "Malachi?" I lightly grimaced at the high-pitched voice I soon recognized to be Tabitha. "I've been looking for you. I thought I would keep you some company." She said, lowering her voice slightly, trying to sound seductive.  She had yet to notice me sitting beside Malachi since his body thoroughly covered my small frame from that angle.  "I am in the perfect company already." He said, still looking outward towards the water, leaving me confused if he meant with me or now that she was here.  Grabbing my left hand, he stood, pulling me up with him, leaving me face to face with Tabith. I could sense her jealousy and anger."Come, little bird." He smiled down at me, pulling my hand, leaving me no other option but to follow.  I couldn't help but sigh heavily once we were out of her hearing range.  "You do realize you just made me enemy numero uno, right?" His warm laughter wrapped around me warmly, and I heard Jade purr like a little kitten in my head. Lightly he squeezed the hand he still had a firm hold on.  "I know. I'm sorry, it wasn't my intention," Malachi said softly. Silence filled the air between us as we finished walking towards the dorms. Somehow, it didn't seem to bother me like it usually would. It was comfortable, comforting.  It also has to do with the firm hold he has on you.  Mentally I rolled my eyes. I knew she was right, but I refused to admit it.  "Don't be a stranger, little bird, and get some rest," he whispered, his face pressed against mine, his lips softly touching the side of my face. He pulled away with the softest kiss on my cheek and smiled before he began to walk towards his dorm.  It took me a few seconds of just standing there to grasp what had happened. He had not only kissed me early, but Malachi also walked me back to my dorm, holding my hand. Shaking my head, I turned and made my way to my room, entering quietly, trying my best not to wake Maisie. As I laid in my bed, I couldn't help but smirk at the way Tabitha looked when she noticed me tonight. Then again, I know her type, she was the typical mean girl, and I know she would be going out of her way to be a b***h to me.  Avoidance would be the game. I had no classes with her, though I did share the same lunch period. I wonder if Malachi would let me hide out in the Royals lounge for the rest of the week since this was all technically his fault.  With a deep sigh, I closed my eyes and willed sleep to take me over. I needed as much rest as possible if I had to deal with Tabitha tomorrow.
