Mason’s Journey Part 2

** MASON’S POV**

It’s been three days and Amanda isn’t leaving. I won’t kiss her or touch her and I can tell she’s annoyed. She is continuously trying to put pressure on me to take my meds and I saved the ones Dr Guile’s gave me to see if my dad knows what they are.

Im laying in my bed when I hear the sound of the door open and shut and then I can clearly hear Amanda outside on the phone through my open window. I can even hear the male she’s talking to.I get out of bed and walk to the window as I listen to her talk about me and I’m shocked at what she says. Calling me a case number and her talking about how I’m stronger than the others. She agrees with the voice I know as Dr Guile’s to drug me and dose me so she can return to him. I’m livid this b***h has been playing me well two can play this game and I start to turn away from the window to head downstairs when I see her. Tea is hiding in the foliage at the start of the woods and she takes a picture of Amanda. Damn she’s sexy. I head downstairs and pull open the front door. Amanda spins to face me and I look at her.

“Are you alright?” I ask and I can feel anger from where Tea is hiding. Amanda smiles sexily

“Of course darling I just had to check in with my roomie.” She purrs placing her hands on my bare chest and leaning up on her top toes to kiss my neck.

“Rrrrrrr” I hear from where Tea is hiding and look over to where she’s hiding pushing Amanda away.

“Let’s go inside and I’ll make you some breakfast.” She says and walks around me and opens the door.

“Sure yeah breakfast sounds great.” I reply not taking my eyes away from Tea. Amanda continues inside saying something but I just watch Tea. I want to rush over and kiss her.

“Be careful. She’s planning to drug you. She’s not who you think she is.” She says quietly but I hear her before she runs off and I’m shocked. How does she know? What else does she know? I think walking back inside and spend the next rest of the day refusing anything Amanda tries to give me. After I pretend to take the meds and spit them out when she’s not looking, I fake being in agony from the meds so she believes me. Apparently it works because the next morning she leaves suddenly saying her roomie is sick. That night I give my dad the meds and he agrees to find out what they are. I decide to wait and tell him about Tea. I am so drawn to her and it doesn’t make sense we’ve hardly spoken.

It’s been a few weeks since Amanda left and I haven’t left my room other than to go walk through the woods I feel so drawn to. I’m avoiding my father because I don’t want him to think I’m insane if he realizes I’ve been hearing a voice in my head. It started about a week and a half ago and it doesn’t shut up.

“Well if you would just listen to me instead of ignoring me I would.” The deep voice says and it chuckles. Maybe I am crazy. I just don’t want my dad to send me back to the school.

He’s been gone all day today so I’ve been doing my laundry and now I’m making dinner and I’ll leave it out on the stove for him. My dad is security for Teas mother though I’m not sure why.

“Don’t lie to yourself. You know what Tea is and her mom. Just as you know what your dad is.” The voice says and he’s right I’ve known since I saw her that night in the woods. The night I came across the most beautiful wolf I’d ever seen, and I’d seen quiet a few as I explored the woods. This wolf had reddish brown fur with red fur woven throughout. I was in awe and didn’t even realize I’d stepped out of the tree line as I saw her emerald eyes staring into mine. She started to run into the tree line opposite of where I stood.

“WAIT PLEASE…” I called out and she stopped and looked back. “It’s you isn’t it?” I asked and right as I felt foolish for speaking to a wolf and expecting an answer, she’s nods in agreement before disappearing. I sat down and went over everything and it made sense. Like I’d figured out a piece of the puzzle.

I’d done some research online and now I knew for sure that my father and the rest were shifters. I hadn’t yet let myself look into the biggest question. Was I one also?

After I eat I head into my fathers office to look for a piece of paper to leave him a note when I saw my name written on a sheet of paper and I read it. It was the report on the meds I’d given him.

It is affirmative that the combination is strong enough to subdue and keep a subjects wolf dormant for as long as subject is ingesting medication either by mouth or injection.

I drop the paper and leave the room intending to go out back for air. Before I open the back door I see shadows moving against the house. I see a flare of light before watching 3 people run for the woods and disappear. I immediately rush upstairs and grab my phone calling my father.

“Hello Mason? Are you ok?” I hear and can hear another voice in the background.

“There were people sneaking around outside but not sure who they are.” I explain when suddenly I smell smoke and hear a loud crashing noise. I spin around and open the door to see the hall filled with smoke and I can’t see the stairway. I slam the door and shove a pair of sweats underneath it. I’m coughing. “They lit the house on fire and the stairs are gone.”

“Mason get out of there.” He says “im on my way. Get out.” He says before I hear a growl and the line is quiet. I run to the window pulling it open and stick my head out. There’s wolves everywhere and I watch as a few transform to people as they try to put out the fire which has now gotten to the woods and is burning the trees and foliage. I look down to the rocky ground and if I jump I could break my neck. I move back into the room and sit on the bed as I try to figure out what to do. I look over at the door and the knob is glowing red it’s so hot making me believe the fire is right outside. I’m going to burn alive. Suddenly I remember the bathroom window and rush over reaching to open it but roar as my skin burns immediately.

“AHHHHHHH”

I finally realize my position and start to accept I’m not getting out of here. The first face I see is hers. I’ll never kiss her sweet lips, pull her into me and embrace her, never wake up next to her, never take her on a first date. That’s not acceptable

“You’re damn right it’s not.” The voice in my head roars angrily only to relax moments later as we hear a ferocious roar right outside the window and the reddish brown wolf with red highlights and emerald eyes sails into the window hitting the floor and rolling into my closet. It’s her. She pops out a moment later and steps in front of me crouching down before whining and flipping her head back.

“You want me to get on your back?” I ask and she nods yes. “But I’m too heavy.” She actually huffs and rolls her eyes. The sound of the door groaning and cracking has me throwing my leg over her and sitting on her back. I lean down wrapping my arms around her neck as she stands up like I weigh nothing and I breathe in her intoxicating scent of salt water and roses. She smells amazing. As she heads to the window I nuzzle my face into her neck and the next thing I know I feel the cool air outside and sit up to see we’re on the ground. I get off her back and look at her.

“Thank you. You saved my life.” I tell her and she looks away and I swear she’s blushing. When she turns back and looks at me she stares at my hand before stepping closer and licking my burn. I expect it to hurt but it feels nice. When I look up she’s gone. I look around for her but don’t see her. When I look back at my hand the burns gone. What happened?

“She healed us. She’s our mate.” The voice in my head says and I know it speaks the truth I’m just not sure what’s happening.

Suddenly a large dark brown wolf approaches me and steps up next to me looking at me and I know it’s trying to make sure I’m not hurt.

“I’m ok.” I say and the wolf steps back and to my complete astonishment transform into my dad. “Xavier? So it’s true? You’re a shifter?” I ask and he smiles.

“Yes Mason it’s true. Now I’m sure you have a lot of questions and I promise I’ll tell you everything but first we need to get to the pack house for Alpha Teagan’s mandatory meeting.” He explains and we both look at the scorched remains of our home. All that remains is the fireplace with burned pieces collapsed around it. Nothing is salvageable. “Don’t worry we’ll rebuild our home son and until then we’ll move into the packhouse and buy new things.” He says before we step into the woods where another guard hands him some clothes to wear. We start towards the pack house.

“Do you want to ask anything?” He asks as we walk through the woods.

“Was my mother a shifter also?” I ask and he nods.

“Yes. We weren’t mates and we knew it. We agreed to hook up until one of us discovered our mate no string attached. When she disappeared I knew she’s found her mate and didn’t think much about it.” He explains. I have more questions but they’re about her and I’m not sure I should ask. “Son you can ask me anything. It’s just between us.” He says and I nod.

“The pack house is where Tea lives right?” I ask and he smirks.

“Yes as do her mother and brother and a few others.” He informs me and I am starting to understand.

“You said Alpha Teagan so she’s the leader of this pack?” I ask and he laughs.

“Yes she is. She became alpha a few weeks ago on her 18th birthday.” He explains to me the system and how Teagan is a powerful, strong, caring Alpha.

“Am I shifter? Where’s my wolf?” I ask and he gets angry. Before he can answer we walk into the packhouse and step into the crowded dining room which is now the meeting hall with the tables moved and a slightly elevated stage with a podium in front and a table with 4 chairs behind it. At the table is Tea’s mother, another woman I remember is Tea’s best friend, and a woman who is setting up to take notes. Suddenly the room goes quiet and I smell her delicious scent before I spot her. She’s wearing black leggings, a short sleeve sweater dress in cerulean blue that exactly matches my eyes. Her hair is down and the curls frame her face and cascade down her back. She’s the most gorgeous woman I’ve ever seen.

When she steps up to the microphone every muscle in her face is tense and there’s no question she’s livid.

“Golden River Pack we’ve been attacked. We don’t have all the specifics but we do know without a shadow of a doubt that the fire was intentionally set. As we find out more I promise we’ll pass it down. For the time being I am doubling all patrols and no one is permitted to leave their homes or the packhouse alone. I promise it won’t be for long.” She says looking into pack members eyes. “Now I’m sure you’re all tired but does anyone have any questions?”

“Yes Alpha. Do you think the timing is suspect since the annual Alpha meeting was today?” A older lady in a black suit and had her grey hair perfectly styled in an up for. Teagan just smiles and nods.

“It’s too early to know for certain Pam but we’re not ruling anything out at this time.” Teagan answers. “Listen everyone. What matters is that our pack members recognized something was wrong and quickly arrived putting out the fire and we didn’t lose any lives.”

“Unfortunately Xavier and his son lost their home and belongings. They will be staying here until the investigation is complete and we can get their house built.” Teagan says and looks over at me with a small smile before continuing. “If anyone has any information about the fire or witnessed anything you may feel is connected please come see myself or my mother. Now it’s late and I need to head to the site and see what has been discovered. As I said please don’t go off on your own and if you see anyone who doesn’t belong or is acting shady my link will be permanently open.”

“As will mine.” Teagan’s mother adds. Teagan smiles at her and ends the meeting. Everything inside me wants to go to her but she’s quickly led out of the room with who I can only assume is her security.

“He better keep his paws off her.” I hear the voice growl before following my dad upstairs and into a small sitting area on the 4th floor. He shows me one room for myself and then pointed to the door across the room and said it was his. We decided to get cleaned up and meet in the sitting room to get everything out in the open. I was surprised to find brand new sweats and tshirt lying on the bed and when I caught her amazing scent I grinned that Teagan herself brought these up for me.

After showering and getting dressed I love that I can smell Teagan still on my shirt. I walk out of my room right as my dad does and he has two beers in his hands. He offers me one and I accept. We sit across from one another and after draining his beer he places it on the coffee table and looks at me.

“Let’s start at the beginning huh?” He says and I know this conversation is going to change everything.
