Chapter 1
Luna's POV
"You're pregnant."
The doctor's words made my world come to a halt.
My knees weakened as I gripped the edge of the desk.
"M-Me?" I whispered, my voice trembling.
The doctor smiled and handed me the ultrasound report.
"Congratulations. You're a little over a month pregnant."
Tears welled up in my eyes.
Kael and I were going to have a baby.
I instinctively placed a hand over my stomach, unable to stop smiling.
He would be so happy.
Kael had always dreamed of having an heir to the Blackwood Pack. Today, I was finally going to give him the news that would change our lives forever.
Without wasting another second, I rushed out of the hospital and took a taxi straight to the Blackwood Mansion.
I couldn't wait to see his reaction.
But the moment I arrived, something felt terribly wrong.
The entire pack was gathered in the courtyard.
Hundreds of eyes turned toward me.
Standing in the center was Kael.
Beside him stood Selene, her hand wrapped possessively around his arm.
My smile slowly faded.
"Kael..." I called softly.
Instead of walking toward me, he looked at me with nothing but disgust.
"You shameless woman."
My heart shattered.
"W-What do you mean?"
A warrior stepped forward and threw a stack of photographs at my feet.
With shaking hands, I picked them up.
They were pictures of me...
Hugging another man.
Holding his hand.
Even... kissing him.
"N-No..." I whispered.
"Those pictures are fake!"
"Enough!" Kael roared.
"I trusted you, Luna! I gave you everything! And this is how you repay me?"
Tears streamed down my face as I desperately shook my head.
"I never betrayed you! I don't even know that man!"
"I don't care about your excuses anymore."
He slowly walked toward me.
His eyes were cold.
Empty.
As if the love he once had for me had completely disappeared.
"From this moment on..."
He paused, his voice as sharp as a blade.
"I reject you as my mate."
The world collapsed around me.
I couldn't breathe.
"No... Kael, please..." I begged through my tears.
But he had already turned his back on me.
"Throw her out."
The guards grabbed my arms and dragged me across the courtyard.
I kept looking back, praying he would stop them.
Praying he would look at me one last time.
He never did.
It was as if I had never existed in his life.
Kneeling outside the mansion as the cold rain poured over me, I wrapped both arms around my stomach.
"Don't be afraid, my baby," I sobbed.
"Even if your father abandoned us... I'll protect you with my life."
Hidden deep within the darkness of the forest, a pair of crimson eyes silently watched everything.
A sinister voice echoed through the night.
"At last..."
"We've finally found the Alpha's heir."
Kael's POV
I grabbed a bottle of whiskey and poured myself a drink.
"Damn you, Luna," I muttered through clenched teeth.
I gave you everything.
Even though you were just an ordinary werewolf—weak compared to the others—I never cared. I loved you with all my heart.
And this is how you repaid me?
I downed another glass, hoping the alcohol would numb the pain burning inside my chest.
A few moments later, the door to my room opened.
"Kael..." Selene called softly.
She walked toward me and gently cupped my face.
"Don't waste your time on someone like Luna anymore. I'm here for you. I always will be."
Before I could respond, she leaned in and kissed me.
Overwhelmed by anger, heartbreak, and the alcohol clouding my judgment, I kissed her back.
She wrapped her arms around my neck as our kiss deepened.
Then, my lips slowly trailed from her lips to the side of her neck.
Just as I was about to lose myself completely, Luna's face flashed through my mind.
I froze.
The memory of her smile... the promises we made beneath the moon... everything came rushing back.
I immediately pulled away and stepped back.
"Enough," I said coldly.
Selene looked at me in confusion.
"Kael?"
"This is a mistake."
I ran a hand through my hair and let out a heavy sigh.
"Leave."
Although disappointment flickered across her face, she forced a smile.
"As you wish."
After she left, I poured myself another drink.
No matter how hard I tried to hate Luna...
She was still the only woman my heart refused to let go.
The next morning...
A pounding headache forced my eyes open.
I pressed a hand against my forehead as I slowly sat up in bed.
Fragments of last night's memories flashed through my mind.
The drinking.
Selene.
The kiss.
"Damn it..."
I cursed under my breath.
A knock echoed through my bedroom.
"Come in."
My Beta, Damon, entered with a serious expression.
"Alpha, we've searched every corner of the territory."
I looked up at him.
"And?"
He lowered his head.
"We couldn't find Luna."
A strange pain tightened around my chest.
I should have been relieved.
After all, I was the one who rejected her.
So why did it feel like I had lost something I could never replace?
"Keep searching."
Damon frowned.
"But Alpha... you ordered us to throw her out."
"I know what I said!"
My voice thundered through the room.
The silence that followed was deafening.
I took a deep breath before speaking again.
"Just... make sure she's still alive."
"Yes, Alpha."
As Damon turned to leave, another guard rushed into the room.
"Alpha!"
"What is it?"
"We found traces of rogue wolves near the eastern border. It looks like they were chasing someone last night."
My heart skipped a beat.
"Who?"
"We're not sure... but we found blood at the scene."
Without another word, I grabbed my jacket and stormed out of the mansion.
For the first time since rejecting Luna...
Fear consumed me.
Please...
Don't let that blood be yours.
