POV Brenden
I really hate wolfsbane. It tends to be quite annoying, and it burns deep in your veins like it’s carving you from the inside out with a dull blade. I stared at the drop of water falling from the ceiling over and over again while I waited patiently in the dank cell. They should just make me a permanent resident here. The amount of times I've seen the inside of a cell is comical really. Especially for an alpha.“This is your punishment. Your cross to bare. You stole what is mine from me. I will never forgive you for this.” My wolf snapped.
“Then just disappear already!” I snapped back. I’m tired of this. Why isn’t the wolfsbane blocking him out? Is it because we are alphas? No. That brother of mine made sure I got a hefty dose every day. I shouldn’t hear a word from him. However, thankfully, silence followed my demand. I smirked and opened a link to him just in case. “Ha! Got nothing to say now?” More silence. Sighing in relief, I realized they did give me enough. I guess it just took a minute to really knock him out. Either that or my wolf just hated me enough to push through the block and remind me of his emotions in this whole thing.
"Fortunately for you, I can't be subdued by a stupid plant." My eyes shot open and I looked around the cell, waiting to find the voice and the person behind it. Glancing at the door to my cell, I knew I couldn't risk talking back. the chuckle from the mysterious voice was enough for me to know that they understood my predicament. "We may have started earlier than I thought but I can work with this. Just give me a little more time and you will be free."
This time I couldn't help but growl. I'm in silver chains under the Silver Dawn pack and I've never even seen this person. If they were really going to help me escape I'd be shocked. "Patience. That's all I need from you now. Patience." The voice echoed before a gust of wind blew through the bars above my head.
Not a second later, I heard the door to the dungeon slam open and I inhaled to see if I could detect who it was. Again, my senses failed me. “Son.” Ah. It’s my father.
“What?” I growled.
He rubbed his face and looked down at me as Lucas appeared by his side. I smirked as I looked at the family jewel playing his part next to his father. “What is this I hear about you taking out your brothers? You know you will have the alpha title together. What would be the point of taking it all for yourself?” He asked me with worry.
I stared at the two of them before laughing once more. “Four days. I’ve been down here for four days and you have asked me the same question every time.”
“It is because you have not given us an answer yet Brenden!” Lucas snapped.
“Delay them.” The voice from earlier filled the room and I smiled darkly.
“With pleasure.” I called out in my mind, hoping they heard.
“Look, I have no interest in telling you anything. I’m tired of sharing with you three like I’m supposed to mindlessly follow and enjoy everything you do. It makes me sick! We are not the same. We may have shared the same egg but I am not you or Mason and I am definitely not Jackson. Stop asking me the why and start focusing on the when.”
“It’s never going to happen Brenden. You all deserve the right to rule and the moon goddess has agreed with this fact by only giving you one mate. I cannot break you four up and risk hurting one of my pack members.” Dad added.
“So you would prefer me to suffer at the hands of some weak mutt that wasn’t even wanted by her own family instead of having my own thoughts?!” I hissed.
“No. I don’t mind if you decide to reject her, but I do mind if you take the three mates she has left. Also, I hate to do this to you, but if you will not stand with your brothers, then you will not gain anything at all in our pack. As of today, Brenden Silver, I hereby revoke the title of alpha and rescind your birthright to rule over the Silver Dawn Pack. Now and forever.”
I felt a riddling pain throughout my soul as the rejection of my title, my pack and my future was thrust upon me along with the heavy dose of wolfsbane. “I hate you and this family. You might as well make me a rogue while you’re at it.” I snapped through a clenched jaw.
He slammed his fist against the bars of the cell and growled loudly. “Do not tempt me for your insubordination! I am not just your father. I am your alpha! You will respect my decision. Your greed has given you this fate. Nothing more and nothing less. Once Ophelia awakens I will make sure she is never tied to the likes of you again.”
“Great! That’s all I wanted in the first place! I just wish my brothers, and my parents would see this as I do. She will destroy this pack, and I will not pity the fallen when she does.”
“Lies! You might want to think smarter than this. I don’t know what game you are playing at brother, but the fact that you have threatened us and our mate, we will stop at nothing until your heart stops beating. I will always choose her over you.” Lucas shouted.
“Then you have already lost.” I added before turning away from father’s golden child.
I heard them finally leave me be and waited for the voice to come again. “Please come and tell me what to do next. I’ve tried to hold them as long as I could, but they have officially pushed my buttons.”
“It is alright my child. I will make sure to cover you as we move to our next plan. He cannot take away your birthright. I will make sure he feels your vengeance.”
“I can’t wait.” I hummed before closing my eyes to another dreamless sleep.
Ophelia
All I could see was darkness. I…I can’t believe he rejected me. Another person reminding me how useless I am. The strange part is, I’m more concerned about Mason, Jackson, and Lucas. I hope they can go on without me. I…I don’t think I can bare this pain again. “You can and you will.” My wolf cooed.
“You’re still here with me?” I asked in shock as I looked around and nothing.
“I am. I know that this is not easy for you Ophelia, but the bond is still strong with Mason, Jackson and Lucas. They have not left you, nor have they even tried. If anything they were trying to get Brenden to rescind his rejection.”
I gasped before I felt an unbridled rage coarse through me. “I will never want someone who doesn’t want me!” I screamed.
She laughed lightly before taking a deep breath. “Good. Then reject him.”
“What!?”
“Accept the rejection so we can be at peace.”
“How am I supposed to even do that? I don’t even know where we are.”
“We are trapped in your mind because the rejection did take a toll on us. But, we will get through this and when we wake up, you will make sure that entitled alpha knows what he lost.”
“Promise you won’t leave me if I go through with this?”
She chuckled lightly and I felt a warmth and pure bliss roll through my limbs as the rage dissipated. “I was the one who suggested it. I will always be here for you and I will stand by this decision. This time, I will not be blinded by the bond. I will listen to mother and guide you forward.”
“M-Mother?” I squeaked and she sighed once more.
“Not your mother. Mine.” I took in a sharp breath and nodded. “We will listen to the goddess. She will know what to do and we will do it. Even if we don’t know it yet, everything has a reason.”
“Apparently. This response is completely different from last time.” I added.
“As I said. This time I will listen.”
“Good. Then, so will I.” She yipped happily at my response before my mind was flooded with the noise of what seemed to be a hospital room.
I felt a cool, wet nose push me forward and I stumbled as I heard my wolf’s voice once more. “Alright then. Wake up!”
