POV Jackson
Pacing the parking lot, I didn’t know why I even bothered to show up. My mate is in the hospital for goddess’s sake and I’m here! “Mason! Anything yet?!” I shouted through our link.
Not a word came from his side and all it did was make me worry more. I balled my hands around Ophelia’s bag and slowly walked up to the repair shop. Come on…don’t be a chicken. I walked into the space and a grunt was heard somewhere further in. “Don’t just walk into the bays without permission!” I gulped. That was Sal.
I turned to see an older man with muscles that have seen war before I straightened up and nodded towards him. “Hey Mr.Salis.” I said to one of our head warriors.
He raised a brow and rubbed his hands with the dirty red rag attached to his pants. “What are you doing here? Um…which one are you?” He asked.
I forced out a chuckle. “I’m Jackson, sir.”
“Ah, Jackson. What can I do for you? One of your fancy cars acting up?” I shook my head slowly and he froze as his eyes trailed down to the bag in my hand. “Why do you have Lia’s bag?”
I blew out a breath and shifted from one foot to the other. I’m an alpha and he is making me feel like a little pup! What the hell?! “Your daughter is with Mason. She had an acci-” I couldn’t even get the words out before I was grasped by the throat.
It took all my power not to rip his arms off. He’s her father. This is how he’s supposed to act. “Where is my daughter?!” Sh*t.
---POV Lucas---
I watched mom pace the floor like she was trying to find the best way to murder somone. “Why didn’t you bring this up earlier Lucas?” She hissed. “You think there is something wrong with one of my pups and you didn’t think it wise to come and talk to me about it? I’m going to the dungeon right now. This is ludacris!” She snapped.
I rubbed my eyes while she stomped towards the door. “Grace…dear. Hang on just a minute.” Dad said.
“For what?! For the rogues to kill him?!”
“Mom, you know that each cell has it’s own space. There is no way a rogue will just jump out of nowhere and kill him. He’s been in there multiple times already. I’m sure he has an assigned cell at this point.”
“Multiple times?!” She screeched and I winced. Looking over at my dad, he had his jaw clenched. “Reggie!”
“I had to Grace. He almost killed a warrior the last time. If we do not get punished for rules we break, no one will respect the rules at all. I’m not going to let my son think he can do whatever he wants. that's not how this is going to go.” Dad growled back.
“Maybe that’s why he’s been so distant. I would be if you locked me in a dungeon!” Finally taking a seat on the couch, she fanned her reddened face and continued her theatrics. “What on earth went wrong here?”
“I don’t know, but he’s not leaving that cell until we figure it out.” Dad concluded.
“Not with him. With you! All five of you! What happened to talking it out and discussing what is wrong with you. Now all you do is hide from each other and keep secrets from me! Your own mother!”
I stood to my feet, finally out of patience and headed towards the door. “Look, my mate is currently in the hospital unconcsious because of him! I’m done with this conversation. I need to see Ophelia.”
“Well I am not! You will find a way to help your brother and you better find out soon. This conversation is not over.” She growled back.
“I never-” The door slammed open before I had time to finish my response. I stared at the intruder, ready to rip their face off when I realized it was Jackson. Behind him were two very upset warriors.
“Where is my daughter?!” Sal boomed through the room.
Dad leaned back in his chair and my mom immediately went to his side. She may be the luna, but a pissed off wolf father could take on anyone to protect their pups. Sal shoved Jackson into the room and Holly followed after them. “Salis.” Dad warned.
“No, don’t you dare come for me about this! My daughter is missing because of your son! Where is she?!” He growled.
I shot my eyes towards Jackson and he put his hands up in defense. “I didn’t have time to tell him where she was before he almost killed me then raced out of the repair shop.” Jackson plead.
“I will have to agree with Jackson. Now, I know that Sal is pretty concerned about this, but I will let you finish the story so we can move forward.” Holly said softly. Strangely enough, her tone was deadly without even raising a decible.
“Brenden rejected her without telling us about it. Thank the Goddess we still have our connection with her, but Mason had to take her to the alpha’s hospital to be assessed. We…we don’t know if she’s okay or not. All we know is she passed out. We’ve been trying to get ahold of Mason ever since, but he’s completely focused on her.” Jackson rubbed his fingers and balled his fists as he let the words roll over in his mouth.
“I would have never told her to give you four a chance if you were just bent on torturing her.” Holly continued.
“We would never hurt her!” Jackson and I shouted together.
Holly slowly turned to look at me then my brother. “Really? The last time I checked, she’s never visited the hospital. Not once since she arrived. Now I’m hearing that she is in the alpha’s hospital and she’s unresponsive no less. See how I’m finding it difficult to agree with your declaration.”
Jackson jumped to his feet and kneeled in front of them. My mouth dropped open and so did dad’s. “Jackson! What are you doing?!” My dad growled.
“Apologizing. Ms.Holly is right. We weren’t there to protect her. We’ve only made things worse for her. We say we’d never hurt her but we should have protected her from him if we knew his intentions. I promise, we have placed him in the dungeon and he will not be getting out any time soon.” Jackson said.
Understanding his motive, I came to kneel next to him. “My brother is right. It is imperative that we atone for our actions.”
“Alright. Then be there for Lia. Make sure she knows you haven’t abandoned her too. If I even think that is what your game will be, I will make sure Alpha David no longer has an heir.” Holly said.
Mom stood to her feet and I could hear her heels colliding with the hardwood. “Listen to me boys. I cannot go against what Opheila’s adoptive parents are saying. They will protect their pup as I will protect mine. Don’t make this get any worse.” Mom said.
“Yes mom.” Jackson and I chorused.
“Good. Now, where is my daughter?” Holly asked again. Jackson and I stood to our feet and led the older couple to the east wing of the house.
When we made it to the wing of hospital rooms, the nurses stood from their chairs and submitted their necks to us. “Where is Ophelia Hawthorne?” I asked.
“Right this way.” One of the nurses said, scurrying around the desk as fast as she could. We followed after her and the walk was completely silent.
The only thing that reminded me we were still being followed was the huffing from Sal. “Why are there so many rooms?” He asked.
“When the main hospital gets overflow, we have extra rooms here for women and children. Also if the packhouse ever gets attacked, it is much safer to transport the critically ill here instead of all the way on the other side of town.” Jackson instructed. It was actually his idea to update the place. He may be a goofball, but when it comes down to it, he really can be quite the genius.
“Uhuh.” Sal grumbled.
“What a lovely idea.” Holly added.
Jackson grinned as we came to a stop. “Thank you.” He added.
“Here we are.” The nurse called. She pulled open the door then jogged back to the front desk.
I looked around the room and her sleeping form was enough to make my wolf howl. “Nothing. Absolutely nothing.” Mason said as he leg bounced at a speed I knew wasn’t healthy.
Sal and Holly walked up to the other side of the bed and Mason didn’t even flinch. He kept holding on to her hand and gently kissing her knuckles. Lia’s parents stared at him, then looked at each other. “Alright.” Sal said.
I furrowed my brow and came to stand next to Mason. “Pardon?” I asked.
“We will let this continue. We will be back as soon as we get Jeremy from school. Keep…Keep Lia safe.” Sal said. Holly gently slipped her hand into his and pulled him out of the room behind her.
“Did we just get her dad’s approval?” Jackson asked.
I looked from Lia to Mason then landed on Jackson. “Yeah…I think we did.”
