18 Let us Begin

POV Brenden A few days prior Every day I see that weak little creature, it makes my blood boil. It's like the moon goddess is taunting me with each wrinkle of her nose or stumble of her feet. My wolf wants her. Bad. But I cannot think of a worse way to spend the rest of my life. My brothers want her. Bad. But yet again, I think they are making a horrible mistake. Am I being heard? Of course not. Instead I’m the one getting punched during our lunch hour. The bell rang to signal my next class. Unfortunately for me, I saw her small frame talking with her supposed brother. My wolf growled before I could even try to prevent him from being protective over something that doesn't deserve to be protected. “Why don't you just apologize already?!” My wolf shouted. “Do my threats mean nothing to you?” “No! They don’t. All your threats are showing me how much of a hypocrite you are. Wasn’t it you that wanted a mate who could give him something in return? What could an omega possibly give to an alpha?!” “What makes you think she won’t give us something in return? Has it ever occurred to you why she was mated to a beta then four alphas? Not to mention why some random person has been trying to kill her? Think Brenden. Think!” I shook my head and turned toward my next class thankful that she turned in a different direction. It is important that I stay away from her until I know what to do next. “I think that our little shadow friend is taking too long to tell us what their plan is. That is the only thing I’m thinking of.” I growled before putting another block between us. He was the one that didn’t want me if I rejected her so I’m still trying to figure out why he keeps bothering me. What is the goal here? To lure me back to his side? It’s not going to happen. I plopped myself into one of the desks in the back of the room and rested my textbook on top of it. What I didn’t expect was a small note wedged in between its pages. I raised a brow and slid the paper in front of me. Great so this thing knows my new school as well as my old one. Good job making her feel like she is nothing to you. Keep it up. I will let you know when it’s time to reject her officially. Why am I taking the word of someone who doesn’t even show their face? Probably because I want to get rid of her just as badly as I want my brothers to quit all this sharing is caring nonsense. I stared at the board and watched my teacher scribble down formula after formula. Sighing heavily, I decided something important. I wasn’t going to wait and no matter what, that girl will regret ever being paired with Brenden Silver. ----?????----- We have one under our wing but the other three have proven to be impossible. If anything, trying to get them on our side has alerted them to the shift happening with their brother. However, I know if this prophecy comes true, there will be hell to pay for all of us. She cannot be allowed to live. I looked around the damp cave I’ve come to enjoy as I pieced together another solution to my plan. Joshua Howler. Her ex-mate will be more than enough. All I need is a little more time. I’m sure his wolf is already weakened because of the rejection. Yes…that’s right. He’ll do anything for more power. Anything to keep his mutt under control. I grinned darkly and started to compile another transport potion as my quill began to write a note of my thoughts to my next prey. I’ll let those other three idiots die with her. They are a lost cause at this point. I need to move on. “Wow…it smells like death in here.” A high pitched voice called over the bubbling of my cauldron. I looked up over the steam and rolled my eyes. Felicity. “I told you not to come here unless it’s an emergency.” I growled. She whined and plopped herself on one of my piles of pillows. “It is an emergency. It looks like Joshua really isn’t over my stupid sister. I thought she was gone for good. Now he’s talking about sending a search party after her. First it was our alpha and now him?! I want that girl gone! All she does is create havoc wherever she goes and now she’s actually going to take what’s mine without even doing anything!” “Felicity. That is not an emergency.” “Yes it is! He’s mine! Only mine.” She growled as her eyes flashed to her wolf’s and back again. “I’m aware. I’m the one who gave him to you, now aren’t I?” “You were also supposed to be the one to get rid of my sister and yet, here we are.” I gritted my teeth as I looked at the spoiled princess who hadn't fallen far from the tree. She is the definition of ‘like mother, like daughter’. Honestly. You would think they were the ones that found me instead of the other way around. I am here to make sure that girl is gone and it still hasn’t happened yet! And it’s all because of this family of inadequate individuals. I don’t understand why I even bother with them. “Listen, you ungrateful brat! Get yourself together and focus on wooing your man. I need him to stay focused on you until I can…persuade him to turn on her completely. I’ll let you know what to do after that. Nothing more, nothing less. Do you hear me?” I snapped, finally at my wits end. “I…you…! Ugh! You should be nicer to me. If Duston finds out you have been hiding out in his territory -” At that point, I had rushed up to her with lightning speed and gripped her slender body by the throat. “Let us be clear. I am never the hunted. I am always the hunter. If you even think about threatening me again, you won’t have anything else to worry about other than your eulogy. Are we clear?” She whimpered before nodding as best she could. “Good. Glad that we have that cleared up. Now, be gone and make sure no one followed you.” I hissed before dropping her on the cool ground beneath us. She scurried to her feet like the little rat she is before racing out of the cave and back into the sunlight. I glanced at the opening and sighed heavily. It really is too much work to orchestrate the end of such a powerful entity when everyone around you is dumber than a box of rocks. I went back to brewing the right potion as the quill finished another cryptic work of art. Chanting the spell, the bit of parchment rose into the air and danced over to the bubbling cauldron, disappearing into the mist. My red eyes opened as a true smile spread across my face. “Another pawn is finally in the game. Now, to check on my other wall of muscle.” I chuckled and shifted my body onto the floor. I closed my eyes and focused on Brenden as best I could. The man’s rage could be seen from space. It made this much easier. Once I locked in, I realized he was going to ignore my note. He isn’t going to wait anymore. It took me a moment to decide if that was a good or a bad thing, but when I saw Ophelia, I knew it didn’t matter when he decided to reject the poor girl. She was already one straw away from snapping. As a pastime, I watched the five of them for the next few days as I waited for little Joshy to show his face around here. What made my grin spread further was the reality that he was finally going to do it. That Brenden finally got the guts to stop moping and make the rejection official. Ophelia ran out of her classroom and Brenden’s brothers found her in the hall after that boy made such an ostentatious announcement through their link. Unfortunately, they were too late. When the group collided, Brenden was speaking the words not one of them wanted to hear. Just as I expected, right when he rejected her, Ophelia couldn’t handle the pain and her body went limp as it crashed into the floor. “Hello?!” I shot my eyes open as I heard the one person I had been waiting for. It’s been days. I thought he was going to ignore me for a moment there. Joshua came around the corner suspiciously as he looked around at all of my little trinkets. “So, you are the one who sent me that weird letter.” “I am.” “And you think you can really help me?” “I do.” “Alright, then. I’m in.” He declared and I smiled at his conviction. “Good…good. Let us begin.”
